Am I the only one bothered by gliding?

As the title says, am I the only one excessively bothered by the character gliding around (especially melee characters) while using skills? I know this was brought up in the past n I'm not sure why it bugs the heck out of me. It looks PvP just embarrassing to watch imo.

There was animation lock in 1.0. It was terrible. We are not going back. Thank you for your concern!

The gliding is really bad. I wish they'd do something about it.

If they go the BRD route, it will be even worse, separation of lower body and upper body animation results in some unnatural movements.

I'm with Mage Black. I never ever want to see it again. As much as it can be odd to see, in terms of realism. I would never ever want animation lock ever again. It makes you feel so helpless, and really really pissed off. XD

Im totally suporting the seperation of upper n lower body thing. Many mmos do it and it looks fine most of the time. Definitely more natural looking than gliding sideways like youre flying around id say

I like to make believe the ground is just really wet (or well waxed), and I just kinda risky business my way around

Bard also suffers a bit of gliding when it comes to windbite. With how the animations are, gliding is going to be inevitable. Trying to slap on seperate movement from waist down/up with the animations we have now are...just going to look weird. It'd require complete animation redos, and I'm sure most of us would rather them make meaningful content for the game.

I was just playing Archeage and reading the title made me confused for a second...

I think you misunderstand what they meant. In 1.0 you had to finish the full animation before you could move again. That means if you were doing a long animation attack and something like Eruption spawned under your feet, you were simply SOL. You had to memorize the timing of attacks and know how long you had between each so you wouldn't get caught with your pants down.

Just for reference, they're even further lowering animation locks on Dragoon's jumps because of how much animation lock gets people into trouble. People need to be able to move at will the majority of the time for the mechanics in this game.

If that means a little gliding, then I'll take it.

I love gliding. I don't know how it looks on other people's screens, but I love dealing the last attack (or close to it) on a mob as warrior and then sliding on through with the motion and being ten steps toward the next pull before my GCD is complete.

I am 100% sincere. With good timing, it looks awesome~

Nope, I am not misunderstanding at all. Animations took longer than necessary to start depending on how much lag you had.

In XI certain animations (mostly for buffs) would simply cancel if you started moving during them. Only WS animations would lock you in any way usually. Animation cancelling makes things look real choppy in high speed fights like XIV though so it's whichever you feel is the lesser of two evils. Complete the animation while moving or have motion cut animations off completely if you move at all.

No you're not the only one.

I definatly miss the weight from 1.0
But! on the other hand I do not miss the latency/extremely long reaction time for the UI input.

One specific thing which bugged me that I remember mentioning during beta was how your character spins on the spot when using right click to turn with a mouse. There is no little shuffle of the feet or anything, you simply spin on the spot like a stiff piece of furniture.. or something.

I don't mind animation gliding, but I do agree that a little turning animation would be nice.

People seem to forget how long those dragoon jumps took. To the point where most of us stopped using them with the majority of content. Took 10 seconds to come down from the sky! A lot can happen in that time frame with some fights! But the jumps now aren't bad. Still, I'll take gliding anyday. :o

The gliding is fine. In a real fight, attacks are very fluid and not on a standstill. Of course FFXIV can't make those "model" attacks look different per situation per enemy, so movement flows very smoothly (good, and as it should be) but actions looks very rigid (e.g. every dragon kick looks the same regardless of position or enemy).

I personally love doing Demolish as a Monk then finishing with Howling Fist to the enemy's face, which conveniently brings me to my next position to attack.

Latency isn't what locked characters in place during skills. It had absolutely nothing to do with it. I, personally, would prefer to have animation locks back and a more tactical slower paced combat system, but more people wanted the faster paced combat we have now.
