Does anyone know whether Heavensward will require separate purchases for PC & PS3/4? Or is buying the expansion an account-level unlock, rather than license-specific?

Does anyone know whether Heavensward will require separate purchases for PC & PS3/4? Or is buying the expansion an account-level unlock, rather than license-specific?
Most likely if you play on ps4 and pc like I do they will both have seperate codes number for registration purposes so going to go with have to purchase both ps4 and pc not sure on the ps3 ive move on from that system lol.
If they do it the same as they did with XI, and the same as they did with the game itself (which seems pretty likely to me), you will need to buy the expansion for each platform you play on.
PC is PC, PS3 is PS3 so is PS4. So you buy for the plataforms you play. If you play in PC and PS4 you need to get 2 copies.
How did this work in XI with expansion areas? Like, if I go to Ishgard or a new zone on PS4, then hop over to PC where I don't have the expansion, what happens to my character in those zones? How does the game reconcile that I might be wearing armor that isn't available without the expansion, or might be in the middle of an expansion quest?
I don't think they could prevent you from logging in on a certain platform altogether (though, maybe! If a character has "expansion" content attached to it, you won't be able to load that *character* on Vanilla copies). So I wouldn't be quick to assume you'll need to buy multiple copies. Maybe a "duplication fee" for the license--another $5 or $10 to attach your Heavensward copy to another platform?
IIRC, you just wouldn't be allowed to log in on that character in that area. You'd have to go back to PS4 and log out in a non-expansion area before you'd be allowed to log in on that character on PC. Any character that was already logged out in a non-expansion zone would be fine. And I think, if you just couldn't get back to your expansion-enabled platform, you could contact a GM (on another character or through online chat) and ask them to teleport you to a non-expansion city or something. It's been a really long time, and I never faced that issue myself, just going off of memory of posts from those days.
Gear, jobs, abilities, etc. were never restricted in any way. Once you've got the gear or the job, you've got it. If you unlocked, e.g., PUP on one platform, you could play it on another regardless of whether the expansion was registered on that platform. Expansion quests and zones wouldn't be available, but pretty much everything else would be.
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I was a little worried that this would be the way it worked, but it's not really that big of an issue.
Don't worry, if you buy both you will unlock a special Squall mask and minion so totally worth it.
Or you can buy them in the cash shop for $3.99US each!
Yeah, I think this is Sony issue having to need to license game on their PS system. On PC, you can play on any system you like including on Mac with bootcamp or wine.
To get the license for the expansion I just hope they do a physical copy or digital copy via PSN.
Well, if it's separated it's gonnabe a bit weird to log on my account from my PC, play as Dark Knight and then log in my ps4 and... what?, get my job changed automatically? Get kicked off Ishgard?
The only think we know is you shouldn't take ffxi as reference, because, to play it in xbox360 and PC you only needed the software, but ffxiv makes you register 1 code per platform, they may sell a decent priced PS&PC pack, unless they want to get some extra money...
I think people are misremembering how it was with XI. Expansion access was account level, however, lots of expansion specific information was not released with the patch, but rather on the disc. So registering the expansion would give your character access to anything in the expansion, but to actually play it needed to be installed. XI's expansion discs had no install limits or anything, so as long as your account had the expansion registered and you could install the data somehow, then you could play across multiple platforms with no issue, having purchased the expansion once.
I sort of doubt that they'll continue with this system, however, but at the same time it seems very unfair to double charge people who use multiple platforms. I won't be charged twice for playing on 2 different PCs (or at least I don't think so...).
Pretty sure that the expansion will follow the way the base game is currently where you will need license for both systems if you want to play on both PC/Playstation. So buy the expansion on PC will not grant you access on the PS3/4 or vise versa.
