...can we have it? What I heard at FanFest blew the original out of the water imo.
No thanks, Nobuo Uematsu's version is fine.
I think ifrit needs a new song his current one doesn't fit compared to what the others have.
The only hope is they will throw Soken and call back Uematsu and Mizuta: Soken has no idea about making music for FF saga, we need more japanese style with minimal sounds and flute, less epic/orchestral.
I am not talking about Ifrit theme, but generally. Soken also ruined the original Over Windy Meadows that actually was the new Ronfaure.
Soken doesn't belong to the saga, it's totally a different style even if his music is not bad, it's not the feeling we had before.
Hmm, since Soken made almost everything in ARR, it's a nice point: but everytime I turn off BGM in game and run FFXIV 1.0 playlist on iTunes, I do feel the difference.
But it's mainly because I was too close to the whole saga for years and Uematsu or Mizuta sounds remind me of the good old time.
Its not all soken. Yoshi P decides yay/nay on every single track. Or as Soken put it. Yoshi Primal "RECOMPOSE!"
Yep, this one.
And even if it's ruined I must say it's one of the best ARR tracks imho, mainly because made by Uematsu. :p
Yeah, listening to the two songs there's a clear similarity, but I'd have to say it's more 'inspired by' than remixed. And given it's usage it fits alot better than the previous would have. I like all the music but then when has a Final Fantasy ever had bad music? Also... I would like to hear this new Ifrit theme...
Okay, I've been a FF-series fan for 13 years, and I still have to disagree with Fumijj_Gah. Soken's an excellent composer, and I love the music we've got right now. Don't get me wrong, I love Uematsu's work as much as the next person, but no two composers are going to have identically-sounding work, unless that's what they're trying to do. And I'd much rather see someone hired who creates music with their own personal stamp on it than a copycat of someone else. It's not Uematsu, but it doesn't have to be. Love them or hate them (it's not really relevant here), XII and XIII had different composers as well, and those soundtracks helped to set the tone of those games with their own musical stamp, just like Shimomura Yoko's going to do for XV. Uematsu is no longer the only composer to ever be valid in the realm of Final Fantasy as a series, and a different feel isn't a bad thing, it's just different.
Seconding the curiosity about the new Ifrit theme, though. Did anyone record it?
Soken is great and so is Uematsu, whynotboth.jpg. XD
Soken's primal tracks are awesome but dang- Twilight Over Thanalan needs to be back too.. night time Thanalan track please lol.
We meet again, Ant! *Readies drake fire*
Ok, I met Soken, and he's a really cool guy. He took a pic with our group at Fanfest, signed our notebooks, and even commented on my Star Wars shirt ("Nice shirt!") lol. That said, his music is very hit or miss. I agree that for primals and other boss fights, his music works well for the most part*, but outdoor music should have been left from 1.0.
*They played a bit of Soken's score for the Shiva fight, which they said would play after the fight reached a certain point (I'm assuming post-Diamond Dust), and tbh it sounded more like the opening theme for an anime series than exciting boss battle music...
Hmmm, listening to those 1.0 tracks you all posted really made me think a lot of ffxi. Nobuo is awesome like that, very consistent in the quality and feel of his music.
Didn't really care for the Ifrit rock rendition, but only because I never really cared for the Ifrit music. Uematsu or not, it's a pretty expressionless track.
Wow, I really love Soken's music but I also love Nobuo's music. This game looks a lot like every Ivalice game I've ever played (I'm staring at you, Akihiko Yoshida) so I was expecting more Hitoshi Sakimoto than Nobuo/Soken. But I appreciate both composers the same way, so I'm fine either way. I can always listen to the "original track" in YouTube or buying the game's OST.
Well I have a feeling that based on the name of the track itself (Primal Fury I think?) and the fact that it was an early song I'm guessing that it was intended to be the song used in all primal battles which explains why it's kind of generic. So glad they all have their own music even if I don't like a few.
Well the theme for new Snowcloak dungeon blew me away. It is absolutely beautiful. The soundtrack has been a bit hit and miss for me with this game but It's starting to get much better. I love the vocal primal themes, the Shiva theme is amazing.
With a soundtrack this large there are bound to be ones that you don't like. People are praising Nobuo's music but there definitely were some tracks that I could not stand in 1.0 just like there's tracks I don't like in ARR, but as a whole I love both of them a lot.
When I first played ARR in beta phase 2 and 3, I was very impressed by the music. I thought Uematsu had composed them and I was hyping to my FF-friends that Uematsu has really done it this time. Was surprised to find out it wasn't him at all in the end.
There's not many songs that I don't like from ARR, think most of the "urgh" songs are battle songs like the FATE boss that really gets annoying fast. Not too into the primal boss songs, either, although I admit that they fit the battles. Just not something I'd listen to while not playing the game.
I adore the La Noscean, Black Shroud and Thanalan songs and of course the town day/night songs. The Ultima weapon (1st and 2nd fight) songs are also among my favourites. :) Okay, now I gotta stop before I gush too much.
aaah i remember turning on my pc just to listen to Twilight over Thanalan would sometimes just sit around on XIV just listening to it. I'm actually quite sad they removed it from ARR, i would definitely welcome it back into the game
