Dark knight have been hinted as job, while samurai was just found in a music folder, and some time ago Yoshi said he wanted to implement a 2handed sword job, samurai or dark knight so i don't think, unless they decide to keep the class system and place the two on the same base class as dps and tank.
I hope it comes. Been waiting for it since launch!
it's possible, both could use 2h sword. but tank and DD from same class, would be kinda difficult to balance.
class would need to be jack of all trades, while the jobs are specialized. GLD is already def specialized, so it's really not possible to add a DD to GLD, without re-working GLD.
Would in a heart beat ditch Paladin for Samurai. But really, to have a folder named after it... must be BIG!
Right, but what we don't know is what are they doing with the class system, Yoshi said he wanted to "rework" or "change" it.
Now i think about it, we know a few things, they want a new healer and a tank, the gun job was confirmed before the last e3, even the original game had the guild, he wanted to add 2handed sword job, and, i read this in another thread, so i don't know the source, Yoshi also wanted to add a melee mage , so it's possible.
I'm rather interested in this new line of thought that a class branches into 2 jobs that are on opposite sides of Eorzea.
Lol, im glad im not the only one who caught the name of that folder. unfortunately im not a member of twitch so i couldn't ask if anyone saw what I had just seen
I'm at the fan festival and one of the attendees asked the music director about the Samurai folder. The music director put his finger to his lips and said "Shhhhh..... it's a secret". So that pretty much confirmed SAM for me. Guess we have to wait till next week for the "official" word and hopefully video of the new jobs. I predict at least three or hopefully 6 if the new classes split off like Arcanist does.
To be fair about the Samurai speculation, they have been talking about Samurais in more than 1 occasion. For example, during the Lore segment, they, out of nowhere, mention Banri Oda and his descendant Nobunaga Oda, who was... a Samurai.
They don't mention Samurai, but they absolutely had the plans to hint to it, or else they would not have the picture of Nobunaga Oda. So, this was planned.
Soken's folder named Samura(i?) may be a coincidence, or not. However the fact that they have been hinting at it is definitely something to take into consideration. Keep your eyes and ears open TODAY, it seems likely that they will drop something else...
...like THAL'S BLOODY BALLS!
Fernehalwes (Koji Fox) is fucking awesome. Huge fan of the guy. Really cool guy.
(Copy/Paste from my previous post in another thread made yesterday.)
As long as my SAM can deal large amounts of damage then personally, I wouldn't mind a counter tank.
The bottom line is, at the moment of writing this post, there is no "Official" announcement of either Samurai or Dark Knight.
However, it has been very clear that Yoshi enjoys his "accidental" leaks. It's fun to finally get to tell what you've been working on. Also, it's fun to get the hype train chuggin' for the next Fan Fests.
As far as both SAM and DRK, both have very strong evidence that they are, in fact, on their way. But you have to be able to separate current fact from evidence. A smart man would be putting money on the existence of both Samurai and Dark Knight as near-future jobs.
As to what roles these jobs will fill (Tank/DPS), that has yet to be mentioned in any way shape or form, leaving us with nothing but speculation. Yes, we have past games to look at, and yes, everyone has logical reasoning as to why they can be one or the other. In the end, everyone has an opinion/desire one way or another, and as such, our 'predictions' are heavily influenced by those desires and opinions.
Samurai has always been my favored class in every FF game that possessed them. DPS is the role near and dear to my heart. I would give anything for it to be a DPS. But, if I'm honest, I truly think it will be our next tank.
I'm with you on this. As I don't mind tanking in this game, Paladin has been fun, messing with block builds. So if they made Samurai a tank, and it gained aggro by dealing heavy dmg, and counter moves. that would be great, and I wouldn't care that it isn't a dps class.
Marauder > Dark Knight (dps)
Musketeer > Chemist (heal)
Musketeer > Gun Mage (dps)
Spell Fencer > Samurai (tank)
Spell Fencer > Red Mage (dps)
My guesses.
Yoshi-P said he wasn't fond of the way SCH and SMN ended up with their split, so we may no longer see splits from classes into jobs. They may just give each job a base class, or even start making Jobs unlocked from multiple Jobs being leveled (with the new Job starting at level 1).
And who else hopes that the Samurai when added will be a counter tank, with their main source of enmity being countering enemy moves for a set % of damage being thrown back at them?
Im totally chuffed that Samurai is coming... over two years ago, I was one of those who kept asking on the forums for both Ninja and Samurai (Here is one of the links)... and now the Dev Team have delivered.
Yeah... me happy. There are way too many hints that confirm this; plus we shall hopefully get full confirmation at the London fest.
Heck, now I keep wondering what their gear is going to look like (and yeah, I agree with the speculation that it will be atank class... gotta be). Still hoping it'll have the traditional feel of the Samurai look...

BTW, similar to how Derplander is now the "Advanced Dragoon" (as shown in the 3.0 teaser trailer, methinks perhaps Derplander's buddy the Roegadyn will be the Samurai

This was about two years ago, and here we are with Ninja about 9 days away from implementation. Here he flat out implies Samurai would be added, by way of talking about it's potential [finshed] relic. He then states that both jobs are very popular overseas (which they are).Quote:

[Yoshida] We are certainly thinking of adding Excalibur with some unique specifications. On the other hand, I believe Masamune will truly prove its worth only when samurai and ninja jobs are implemented.
This Q&A was also asked and replied to in the Live Letter III:
Take it as you will.Quote:
Q7: When will musketeer be implemented?
A7: Including samurai and ninja, we are currently at the stage where we are looking into which we would like to add next, so we haven’t yet decided on the specifics. However, in the future we are imagining dual wield and double barrel guns, so please look forward to it!
I think that may have more to do with caster/healer Int/Mind priority causing SCH/SMN to need two i55+ weapon sets in order to limit Scholar's post 50 power.
Tank/mDps role split would have fewer problems equipment wise due to Tank and mDps equipment having the same Str/Vit amounts.
This is the Dev team were talking about, Sho... they could confirm Samurai but we dont get to see it until 3.4 or something. And yeah, I've seen all those interviews and actually posted news from all his Live letters on my blog.
That's precisely why I said "way too many hints" above but ... and perhaps I needed to exhibit my thoughts more clearly... I'm hoping that the confirmation announcement will be made at London and not sometime in December or early 2015.
