Nothing gamebreaking but wondering if Im the only one on this?
you are not alone sir.
it doesn't happen to me all the time, but I've noticed this happens more when I'm launching the game from steam. but yeah, it started happening to me last week.
at first I thought maybe because I did a clean reinstall (inc windows) and my prev config was gone, maybe it's a launcher thing?
the steam overlay can cause issues with games utilising launchers, its usually an issue best reported to valve since the issue is in their court to resolve.
I don't even use steam and I've been seeing the same issue recently, it actually started after their previous "hot fixes" patch they did before the one that didn't happen tonight that was supposed to. While not game breaking, its extremely irritating having the game crash as I'm loading into dungeons and trying to farm trials for nexus lights. Also, fix the 20 minute timer for the game to kick us off the game when we get 90k errors, that ate up a majority of my coil group's time the other night....
what module does the crash window say the crash occured in?
"Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has encountered and error and needs to close." that's literally all it says.
maybe this is a windows 8.1 thing though? I have been launching the game directly through the launcher instead of steam and so far no error message.
Windows 8 here, refuse to upgrade to 8.1 and have to get all my damned drivers redownloaded and working again. The crashing is rare but it was quite active yesterday (3 or 4 times yesterday, not once yet today *knocks on wood*). But if you're going to mention that I guess I should also mention I load the game through WTFast since my connection can be crap and useless, however I've been doing that for the past few months without an issue until a few days ago.
So yea, game crashed twice as I hit enter to go inside my personal house last night, I wasnt even online for more than 30 seconds as I turned my camera around and clicked on the entrance to go inside, the second the screen went black to start the loading for the next area the game just decided to crash. This has been happening very frequently and its just beginning to get to the point where I'm not going to bother anymore if it keeps it up. I filtered some graphics, ran a virus and malware scan (turned up nothing), updated my computer including graphics driver, same problem keeps occurring; hell I even restarted my router/modem and my computer and I keep getting this lately.
I highly doubt its the game at all, everyone would experience it if it was. Rather things like this can be caused by a number of issues, especially where some run at start applications load themselves into every opened process.
knowing more about your system would help of course, so could you post a system information dump from the launchers config screen and paste it into [code][./code] blocks.
Below is the Error that happens when logging out of the game on Windows 7.

Access violation, so something is corrupting or deallocating memory within the FFXIV process.
As said, more information about the running system environment will be required.
yes, the launcher runs that on the config screen, either way works.

im confused as to why there are 3 seperate instances of guildwork.exe running.
Couldn't tell ya, I haven't used it in months, though looking back over it, they appear to be in different locations which doesn't make any sense. Looking through some of my start up processes, seems like its set to automatically start when the computer turns on which I don't remember setting.
Awesome, now I'm getting 2002 errors left and right, havent been able to log into the game in hours, reset my modem, restarted my computer, even yelling at my ISP and nothing is getting fixed. This 2002 error crap started this morning right after maintenance and has been ongoing all day.
Just chiming in to say I've been getting the exact same error recently. Been running this game for months without any issues until now.
Notable Details:
- I'm also running Windows 8.1 (x64 Pro)
- Is this linked to the October Windows Updates? That was a while ago and I haven't seen the crashes till this week. It's the only change I can think of besides the recent FFXIV hotfixes.
- Literally a day before the All Saints' Wake event started I was still playing just fine (5 hours of uptime). Could some of the event or associated resources trigger the problem?
- How to Reproduce the Crash: Always seems to happen if I'm zoning to somewhere or if I'm exiting the game. Feels like a loading glitch with the client.
Nothing else on my system has been causing any issues. Should this be flagged for SE to check?
EDIT: Here's a brief system rundown if required:
- Windows 8.1 x64 (latest updates)
- Intel i7 4930k CPU (3.40 ghz)
- 16 GB RAM
- Nvidia GTX 580 (latest drivers)
- Similar error/crash message that Eunys got (earlier in the thread)
Well, was on the phone with my ISP for about 2-4 hours today, finally got to the point of being able to login without the 2002 errors. Only real difference is I'm using a different DNS and stopped using WTFast, after talking with a friend, apparently they were having similar issues while using WTFast as well. I'm going to be sending them a few complaints as it appears their VPN isn't worth the $10/mo payments.
