Hello new allagan tomes...
Well I guess a new grind for new gear to buy
Your role in our FF14 lives shall not be forgotten... *takes off hat*
Don't forget to convert Philo if you haven't it will gone forever too.
It doesn't even tell us the new tome name. S-E please...
Silly SE.... So many currencies in game already.
Wish they would just sit down, put some time aside and think through what they're doing. You know, just like they didn't think through Housing?
Goodbye old friend :o
This news feels so 2.2, nothing to be excited about.
Same content, different package.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Myth!
Good damn bye!! I'm so sick of tomes.
It's sad to see myth go - thought im hoping they return to the "ology" naming conventions - really didn't like "soldiery"
Tomestones of Theology?
Can I ask you guys something?
Do you think getting gear through tokens is fun?
I had only played wow vanilla before this game and doing dungeons for gear was the only way in my head or crafted gear. But with these tokens... I just feel its sooo sooo boring. I can get the same gear as everyone else (not coil gear) by just doing one or 2 dungeons a day.
Do you guys prefer it this way instead of random dungeon drops?
If myth conversion to soldiery is as crappy as Philo to myth was, I feel like I should spend what I've got beforehand.
To be fair, we have both. Random drops from Coil and the more controlled tomestones loot. With RNG+lockouts it's frustrating, with tomestones cap per week it's frustrating. It's needed but.... you guessed it, frustrating.
I don't enjoy either of those two which we currently have in game....
I prefer rng but the lockout suck for the unlucky people.
But I feel like tokens make the gear in this game unimportant. I feel like its actually harder to get vanity gear than useful gear. Which is why I focus more on making my character the cutest instead of the strongest.
Yup, I'm like that. Vanity > Utility :p and it's the damn lockouts exactly that are annoying. Without them the RNG wouldn't be the cause of so much hair pulling. I do understand why both of these systems are needed tho.... which doesn't make me feel any better, lol.
It has proven the difference is made by the player not the gear. That is the reason the f2p will rely a lot on making gear the difference, to be able even the average guy go to the top tiers, provided he have enough deep bucket for cash shop upgrades.
That is the reason you can have full i110 today, but your game stops at t5.
I applaud the tokens because I want everyone who plays this game to feel like they can achieve something and still have fun. That includes people who can't grind the same dungeons over and over and over again hoping to get lucky.
It's not like people who prefer the RNG aren't being offered their kind of fun. There is one (1) gear set per set of tomestones for a total of two (2). Not counting sets below lvl50, there are five (5) gear sets you can only get through randomized Boss drops plus the Primal weapons. Three of these five gear sets (Allagan and ST) are useful endgame gear.
Token gear is outnumbered and out-BiS'd by RNG gear. It takes nothing away, but offers more players the ability to feel useful and rewarded.
That said, I wish outdated token gear wasn't so incredibly hard to come by. I've been trying to get the Darklight Healer gloves ever since Philosophy got phased out and have not seen them drop even once.
This is getting boring. So every 6 months we gonna have new tomestones deleting the old ones and grind the same things again and again? Can't we have another way to get gear? Drops from dungeons or craft with reasonable materials or a series of quests or something else? It get's so boring. This method seems so old now. And it also feels it's coming too fast. Maybe it just me though but this gets boring.
Goodbye Myths, oh how long have we known you, most of 2.0's life. But now most of us will either keep you on hand or put you out of your misery. Either way, you've been a friend to us all for a long time. T_T
i so called this
when 2.35 was patched in i said to my fc i was going to cap soldiery and myth for 2.4 because myth would go, and they kept telling me it wouldn't :D
so to anyone who said it wouldn't go in 2.35 pick up that phone
because i called it :D
also i wonder if the rumourmill is correct in its guess of alagan tomestones of strategy
Edit got auto corrected from tomestone to tombstone
Here's an idea already learned from other mmos.
Myth and Sol stays as is. Everything you could buy with sol you can now buy with myth (100). Everything you could buy with myth is now half price useful for vanity and rings (90). New gear comes in available for sol (120).
Boom.
Plus you want that cool lookin darklight set for vanity in patch 3.3? This way you can still get it when no one is running vanilla hms.
Both methods sound pretty much the same to me except one is grind till you're capped and the other is grind and pray for loot that you can use.
But.. as far as it being boring well... that's not really the gear obtaining method at hand's fault more like we don't got too much to do aside gear up and extremes/coil/weekly cap after doing Hildibrand and catching up with Main Story now and then.
You can do most not all but most current content in i90~100 easy, won't be fast as a i110 players but it can be done just as easily as them but just a little slower. Sooo in the end it's more like there's not much "Challenging" content out right now that demands gear that 'matters'. >_>;
(I miss old pharos and other stuff.)
Oh and as far as which I prefer, I like tomes actually... it takes more time believe it or not, due to lockout rather than sometimes being lucky with RNG and getting needed piece of gear then sitting around.
Ah philotomes, the endless runs thru Castrum Meridianum to aquire Darklight gear with cinematics that wouldnt autoskip.
Those where the days.
Ikr, yet for some reason I don't completely dread thinking back when the game first started and doing all of that now. I actually miss when ARR first came out and stuff was stabled up, don't know why but after stuff got stable it didn't feel so bad and was pretty enjoyable on my end.
It's kinda odd this announcement doesn't talk how we'll be getting books and that gear henceforth?
Do they really expect every xiv player to keep tabs on the website patch mini-detail announcements?
How about introducing news this big in the game itself in some way!
This I totally agree with. I only got to do Pharos Sirius twice before they nerfed it but it was the most fun I have had in this game. I think we wiped like 5 times at first boss and 5 times at last boss. And my group were so determined to beat it. we changed strategies gave eachother advice and finally we beat it (I was the healer and I died every time by the ifrit rush at last boss but once someone said "dont stand too close to the middle it will make it harder to dodge the rush" I could finally dodge it and we beat it.
It's probably the most fun I have had in this game. the group I had was patient and fun
You would of liked Amdapor Keep before the nerf there too, Demon Wall had bees that would come out! it was really fun and WP when the game was starting out. :)
Tanks actually needed heals~ (Not that they don't now but it just feels like they are much more... tanky and it's not as scary for heals inside the newer dungeons.)
OH and Qarn too! the bees there use to 1-shot people, Content got nerfed so hard. :(
yeah , i dont understand why SE needs to keep adding currency ._. , other games manage currency way better, no need to convert old to new...old easy gear sets get prices lowered to nothing or bought using ingame coin (gil)....
guess AF2 sets are gonna drop in 2.4 dungeons?
although not well known there is a way to see news inside the game (if we eclude the log in part which has all the news there) if you go to the SAPPORT DESK you see a few tabs one of the tabs is NEWS-TOPICS on this tab you can see a more streamlined version of what is on the lodestone, but it is viewable in game all in all if you count the lodestone thats 3 major possibilities of people seeing it 1 its website 2 the log in screen and 3 in game, it should cover everyone in thorey
I would care if this actually meant less grinding for tomes.
When 2.0 gear first became obsolete...me and lots of my friends were saying how silly it is for gear to become obsolete so quickly. On these forums we were told that we are being ridiculous, and 6 months is ~PLENTY OF TIME~ for something to be relevant.
Well...you reap what you sow.
It's not about something being relevant, its just they keep raising the ilvl cap instead of keeping it the same, giving us our 1.0 stats back, and making the game have more depth.
It feels like the same thing over and over and over again, so boring. I said it then and I'll still say it: Gear is going obsolete way too fast. Cap the ilvl and give us plenty more options and more fights, instead of the same copy/paste patch. It is always 1 new instance, hard modes, a primal and either CT/Coil.
To be fair, Yoshida said that they decided this from the start and it will ~change~ for the expansion. Yeah well, I don't think they going to give us any horizontal progression but who knows...I am not resubbing until I see that, if ever.
The real question is: what the hell is Rowena's crew doing with all of these bazillions tomestones?
Are they building another Dalamud again or what?
