Wacky stats on new gear? Ul'dahn Longbow and Revolutionary's Bliaud, specifically...

Some of the stat bonuses on some of the new gear have me scratching my head... specifically, the Ul'dahn Longbow, which gives a bonus to Piety, and the Revolutionary's Bliaud, which gives a bonus to Parry.

With the longbow, I was able to rationalize it by saying "oh, maybe piety affects Bloodletter now" (it probably doesn't, but that kinda makes sense). The Bliaud though... a Parry bonus? Mages don't even have a parry stat! That one I have no explanation for.

Are these mistakes in the item definitions, or is there some logical reason for these?

Any class can parry.

they might become more logical once they are done with the classes overhaul and the introduction of jobs.

Maybe Archers unlock bards after all and they might want that bow with PIE on it.

Bards don't use bows.

PIETY helps your Dbuffs stick, like bind from ShadowBind.

Maybe so, but mage weapons don't have a parry stat, and it's sort of a silly thing to include on a piece of armor for mages... you shouldn't be getting hit in the first place, and with the parry bonus from the armor, I have a total of... what, 4?

It's like including a magic potency stat on a piece of glad armor... sure, they have some magic potency, but including a +4 bonus to it on a piece of gear is pretty pointless.

It still screams "oops, made a mistake" to me, but hey.

Maybe they will. Bows to attack from range and a musical instrument in their off hand to buff players.

lol if ARC unlocked BRD I imagine 99% of archers would be pissed off. I'd certainly never play the class again.

Don't Bards deviate from Archers in Ragnarok Online?

After using it for a while, turn it into some awesome Materia?

A conjurer with a 2handed arm and a decent dexterity stat can actually parry fairly well. For soloing, parry is wonderful. For groups, it could possibly help in a situation or two. Plus, I figure, ... why not? It's a free stat! xD

This has actually been going on since the first new wave of items under Yoshida's control, the low-rank NMs.

Bow of Owls has Piety.
Frostbite has Piety.
Kokoroon's Nestpicker has Mind.

Not sure what's going on with some of them. I imagine once stats actually matter and once battle adjustments including jobs are finished it may make some sense. We'll see.

We don't know for sure how the job system will work. Maybe bard DOES use a bow and then equips another weapon/item in the off-hand slot. Or pack slot. So really, until they give us the specifics on how the job system would work, maybe bard uses a bow. Maybe not. We don't know.

As to the original 'what's with the odd stats? post. Since many of the 'odd' stats can help boost the class's natural weakness, they aren't really a bad thing. Adding more mage based stats to non-mage gears for instance, might seem weird, but these off-stats can and do affect your survivability. Archers can actually make use of the extra Magic defense some stats can offer for instance, since many of the attacks that will hit them are ranged attacks. Many ranged attacks are magic-based.

Any class can parry. Piety affects DoT damage.

In that case mage parry goes from 0 to 4.... is there any point in that? parry doesnt even happen often enough wit 150+ parry.

I have yet to have ever parried once as thaum or conj too. Every hit has been right to the face unless i have guard active.

I reaaaaally dont think mages can parry, nor archers, given that their weapons lack a parry stat. Parry may show up as a hidden stat on YG for mage weapons, but that doesnt mean it is really in effect. It's not shown to us for a reason... Just because the balaud adds 4 parry doesn't mean the mage will ever parry attack from a monster above level 2 >.>.

I don't believe that you can parry with a wand. If you're a wand / shield user, that might explain your lack of seeing parries. I use a 2 handed arm, and I parry with some frequency.

I've never really used a 2h mage weapon, so maybe in that case it is only staffs that can parry. Imma go test it out.
