When they made things much bigger and much bigger effects, it made everything much flashier that it hurts your eyes or give you a headache. The thing about this is that most of the effects are lighting effects: its all flash here, purple flash there, red flash there, blue flash there, which looks nice when you take a screenshot but still feels like it's barely visible as a single effect because it goes out so fast. For example, fight the bomb baron NM.
I think they should put more animated effects and minimize on flash photography. Like make an animated Tornado, and not a puff of green mist. More blood splatters instead of sparks. I wanna see chunks and pieces of armor or hide fly off. More visible character movements instead of blocking our view with flashing lights. I wanna see more of the arrow flying instead of a thread of light. Keep the flashing lights on things that matter like Skill Chain effects in ffxi. Take note on spells from ffxi, like for example Stone IV in FFXI, you'll see 4 big rocks surround the mob then smash it, then another set splits and continue to smash some more. Stone III was like a point Stalactite grows from the ground, impaling the mob. Freeze, you'll see a big ball of ice form on the enemy before it shatters. Stuff like that looks just delicious.
Shiny, Flashy Light effects are nice, but it is way overdone totally neglecting the importance of animated effects to the point that it might be bad for your health.
Anyone experience seizures while playing FFXIV?

Totally in agreement with the OP, none of our spells have any effect apart from flashes of light. the player buffs are quite nice, shell and protect are good and I like the way they chose to show stone skin. ice spikes should have been an aura though in my opinion , something that surrounded you.
But nukes are completely pish. Why doesnt lightning make a lightning bolt strike from the sky etc etc? -

Yeah, i have to agree.
I'd also like to see more stress on meaningful animation related to the skill rather than 1 second flash lights, although i do like flash light to stay for sure, but not have it the main and primary focus.
Stones example you gave is good, would be much nicer to see big solid rocks hurled at enemies. Same with ancient magic.
And again same concept for melee too. Pug for example, The only one that really catches my attention and i love is Seismic shock, simian thrash is good too but lots of complaints about it by people all over forum for the same reason, you can't see the player due to flash lights which kills the experience when abused. I would rather more focus on the animation and sounds. Also, other skills for pug are rather dull for that matter, mostly duck and hit with right arm and again flash lights, purple, white, etc. There should be much more stress on animation itself. Take monk from FFXI as an example:

Each WS unique and the animations and sound are stressed.
I would definitely like to see more like Seismic shock from FFXIV though, that's an epic WS, my fav. -

This is what I'm talking about seizure wise. Tanking this thing up close, and I know most people play like 2 feet or less away from their 1080p monitor while hunched up on the keyboard, just nonstop continuous flashing lights. It is seriously bad for you and could spur some law suits later on.

Do this as an hotfix. I believe that they'll implement a Brightness bar in the game too. -

Dyne. If you or anyone else is seriously getting seizures from the game I recommend a few things:
-Play in a well lit room.
-Make the window size half of your screen size.
-Don't play for over 3 hours at a time, and take short breaks to rest your eyes during game sessions.
-Lower the contrast settings either on your monitor or through your video card.
-CALL A DOCTOR AND QUIT THE GAME IMMEDIATELY. Seizures are dangerous yo. They can damage your brain.
But in all seriousness, this is probably one of the lease flashy Final Fantasy, wait, no scratch that. One of the least flashy JRPG games out there. I wouldn't be too worried about seizures from this of all games. -
