Seeing that we can't edit the music files, and I honestly prefer a lot of the 1.0 tunes to the 2.0 ones, my answer is a resounding yes.
Not always, like 40% of the time.
I try to, but usually not on difficult stuff as sometimes the sound can play into mechanics.
Of course :D!, but sometimes FFXIV ARR music is just too good to pass up sometimes depending on the zone or combat theme.
Depends on my mood at the time. Sometimes I do, sometimes I enable the game music, and then sometimes no music at all.
Pretty much always. Either that or while I'm playing I'm usually watching something on my phone. Too ADD to just pay attention to one thing at a time ha.
Nothing like Pandora in the background during a grind. Sometimes for trials, I may put on Random CAVE Shoot em up music.
MonsterCat music on youtube all day
I listen to Persona music while in instances.
"Now I FACE OUT, I HOLD OUT, I reach out the truth of my life, seeking to seize on more Nexus lights, yeah!"
Only time I put on out of game music is during long gathering sessions on Miner/Botanist, even then its from FFXI usually like Zi'tah or Gustaburg. I easily was able to just zone out with those themes in XI doing grinds lol...
My Suggestion for Praetorium runs: Michi ( Stage 5) DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou.
Running In The 90's and Speedy Speed Boy are also pretty good for grinding/speed runs :P
Yes, and funnily enough my one of my fave songs has the same name as my server

I listened to the in-game music for a week or two after the release of ARR but then switched to my favorite smooth jazz internet radio station. I've been listening to that while playing FFXIV ever since.
I actually play the game on mute because I'm always listening to music or watching something.

Crazy idea that I do sometimes. Sometimes I'll join a Dungeon right? I hit up my Youtube channel and I play a video from one of my SHMUP playthroughs. Say.. SDOJ or DoDonPachi Resurrection. I'll go through the dungeon with the video playing in the background. So its kind of cool to hear explosions and gunfire going off as the group and I go through the dungeon. Sometimes when we hit the boss of the dungeon, the stage boss music will be playing in my video, making it fitting. Works great for bosses like Taulard with some bullet Hell type dodging.

This is currently my favorite thing to listen to when I get bored of the in-game music. That is a Youtube Mix (pre-made Playlist) that combines several different Music Artists' Songs that are featured as Opening and Closing Video's for several different Anime series.
I listen to all kinds of music while playing. All of the music in 2.0 is bad, in my opinion.
No. I also have music disabled in game.
When I'm SB'ing at Urths for an expected multiple hours, I turn off the bgm and battle effects (multiple Holy's can be pretty eye-straining) and run a playlist full of FFXIV and some VN tracks.
Yes, I do. I find the game's own soundtrack to be rather weak compared to the singleplayer FF games that got me hooked to the series. Talking about VII, VIII and IX. Grinding stuff in those games never felt like a chore thanks to the good music.
If i'm going to be fighting a lot I mute the game's and play metal instead (or just play it louder than ARR's lol), I like the in game music but the on and off on and off battle music drives me nuts.
Edit: low level / open world fighting, primal battle music is good :P
Nope. Just the game music. But as I can often have other stuff running and it is set to a lower volume it's usually a non issue. I will often zone out and focuse to much anyway so will not hear the music itself.
i listen to FFXI music while playing
I listen to podcasts unless I'm on a difficult fight. Sound is kind of a big deal in battle.
I watch Netflix whilst playing instead. The majority of the content in this game can be played with minimal attention, so that works out fine.
Yes.

Soken's field themes are just super bland compared to the beautiful 1.0 tracks.
I like to listen Slayer's Angel of Death while carrying out snurble genocide :D
I like to listen to the low level dungeon intro songs on loop. Halatali and Dzemael Darkhold songs being among my favourites. I also used to have Pharos Sirius on loop, but I've heard they've made it loop now, so guess I won't have to do that anymore. x')
I also like to listen to some FFXIV song remixes or covers, like the To the Sun from Central Thanalan played with celtic instruments (by an asian artist on YouTube).
Guess what I'm saying is that I like to listen to the game songs and appriciate what Uematsu and Soken have done. Of course there are days when I just feel like listening to something completely unrelated to Final Fantasy.
I play/played (ffxiv owns my life now) a lot of multiplayer games, like halo, dota stuff like that.
And I cant listen to anything but game sounds if I play those games, I feel like listening can sometimes alert you before your eyes can.
But in ffxiv I always put on some Miku hatsune <333 even in pvp. I guess the reason is that I only need my eyes for the slow combat pace in this game. Leviathan is my only exception that one is hard without sound
for me thats a real atmosphere breaker personally..
i want to experience the game... and ingame music is one big part of it. because it creates the mood that the developers want to create..
cant understand how people can listen to regular music while diving into a fantasy world.. i listen to "Normal" music every day.. so i dont need it in my game personally.. its like turning of the music of a movie... and replace it by britney spears... sorry...
do you turn off the music in regular offline games or movies too? hopefully you dont..
I tend to stream youtube videos, full albums, recorded concerts, mixes, anything that's like over an hour long while I play. Don't really go into areas with good music, since I just gather/farm/craft these days.
Depends on what job I am playing.
Paladin: Shoot to thrill (ACDC) / Titanium (David Guetta)
Warrior: The Warrior (Pat Bentatar)
Black Mage: Dark Horse (Katy Perry) / Back in Black (ACDC)
Summoner: Hard to Concentrate (Red Hot Chill Peppers)
Dragoon: Applause (Lady GaGa)/ Radioactive (Imagine Dragons ((lol))
Monk: Rock this town (Stray Cats) / Other side (Jason Derulo) / Smash Brothers. Punch Out theme: Jogging
Bard: El Manana (The Gorillaz)
Scholar: It's all your fault (Pink)
White Mage: How to save a life (The Fray)
I've made a playlist on media player with all the FF OSTs mixed up. It's really interesting when I play and I find a random old Final Fantasy track to be more fitting to the XIV area I'm in than the original is.
Soken is doing a very good job, but Uematsu's track from the good old Squaresoft days is still my favorite.
Yeah, either music or watching something. I honestly the only time I have the game unmuted is when I'm q'd for FL so I know when it pops but even then in game I have everything but ambient sound down to basically 0.
I stream SiriusXM while I play. Usually Faction.
Love the music in this game but its been the same for over a year now.
New Retro Wave, Maniac Synth, and LuigiDonatello (youtube channels) most of the time.
