Can we please stop this, we have not had a non circle arena fight since turn 1 of bcob. I would love to believe that square can be more creative than make a circle, but i guess this is not the case. Please give some other shapes some love

Turn 8's a square though
Second Coil turn 3 is a square.
:O I forgot that glorious square, I got blinded by rage at the shiva preview seeing yet another circle
What's wrong with circle arenas, exactly? You do realize that circle arenas are alot harder to make than square ones, right? I mean, look at the history of 3D fighting games. Nearly all square arenas. Polygons abhor circles. Conversely, real life you find alot of circular 'arena's. The developers are just taking cues from life, I don't see the problem.
Fight before Ultima Weapon is a square too, not that that's any better... Turn 1 was barely better too, I think the Gilgamesh fight has the best arena so far, even if that is just two circles split by a short path; at least it was interesting having to move about to continue the fight, rather than just dodging...
I miss Rivenroad and it's glorious stairs.
I would prefer a triangle arena myself. 90 degree right triangle in fact.
Levi is a rectangle.
Dodecahedron arena plz.
Circles and some squares are easier for players to run around in.
It had multiple levels, that's what's important. You didn't just fight Darnus in the same circle; you sent ranged onto the stairs to take out comets, and DPS up to the very top to finish zerging him (or whatever, it's been a while). Much more interesting than the current arena designs, in my opinion.
I mean really, compare the two (Coil Turn 9 spoilers yo);
One of the reasons why i like low level dungeons is because the boss areas aren't all square or circles. Take for example Cutter's cry, Aurum Vale, Dzemael.
I was kinda expecting Snow Cloak will be where we fight Shiva. That and it looks like if we fall of the edge we gonna die, again.
The stairs were inside of the circle, so it would still be in the same circle on top of the stairs ^^
What you mean is a 3D arena, regardless of the base geometry.
I have read you can fall down from the Shiva arena and climp up stairs to go back into the fight.
But yes, the devs should bring again some arenas where also the 3rd dimenson is involved. Climbing up stairs or destroying falling objects before they reach the bottom. Or testing a new invention from Cid that allow us to fly in the circle and fight in the air ^^
The first boss in Tam Tara HM's a square, and I think there are a few in SV, both normal and HM that are squares as well. :P
I agree, I would like more variety. Not just in shape, but also height and depth. I would appreciate fights that had mechanics that took advantage of multiple levels. Like to escape an oncoming flood you had to run to higher ground.
I don't get why the arenas have to be regular shapes of any sort at all... Why can't we just have some natural looking arenas in caves, rooms or fields that have some variety to them?
Dzemael Darkhold has some interesting boss fights because the arenas are large and complex and the environment actually becomes part of the fight. Why can't we have more of that?
Enough with your standard square arenas, let's really push the boat out and have a triangle arena.
the chimera arena doesnt seem to have a shape.
the "relic reborn" version, its got the cave and you can drag him pretty far outside
Thank the friggin' lords. I hope you're right.
I'm sick of unforgiving mechaincs like that.
Levi and Titan piss me off...it's sad we're Warriors of Light but can't Swim at the very least...
Perhaps when we get a swimming expansion, they'll nerf Levi EX so we can swim back when we get knocked off LOL.
From the Live Letter last night, it was a joke between Yoshi and Foxclon, because the Shiva arena has a pair of stairs leading back to the main part of it, but in this video from the lodestone(same one in the Live Letter, just no Yoshi/Foxclon commentary) you see the character Yoshi is controlling unable to fall out of the arena or even go down the stairs, unless they change it before the fight actually goes live.

Yeah, I was kinda excited for the Leviathan fight since it was gonna be on ship...oh well.
I'm guessing the reason for a square and circle arena is to make it easier (for us or them) to dodge and see all the primal's attacks. I know the camera angles got in the way sometimes during the last boss.
Still, Shiva's area has stairs, so hopefully we can use that to protect us from her Diamond Dust technique
In the video they show stairs, I hope there's a mechanic that allows players at the top to help those who fall off and not just letting us walk back up.Quote:
Topic 8: Shiva Instance
Instance is called "The Ahk Afab Amitheatre". Will be Hard and Extreme. You can fall down but there are steps to get back up!
New mechanic, when someone falls levi will go underwater and eat them.
Another reason circles and squares are a popular design choice for FF14 arenas is the majority of enemy AOEs are circular as well, making it easier to dodge in an arena with a similar design. Random obstructions or very obtuse level designs could make or break how some fights work unless said fight is designed with that level in mind.
