Ok, I get past the version update, then I log in. Everything's ok. Then I hit play, and the window comes up black, and closes immediately with the awesome Windows 7 window saying something caused it to crash. Can I fix this some how?

had similar problem in the past, i did system restore to earlier date (prior to update) and tried and it worked...
might work for you.
Just tried it, didn't work. any updates for Windows 7 or anything i might need? anything else i could try?
Maybe the config or installation is broken. In that case you could try to move the ffxiv folder in "[username]/my documents/my games" to the desktop, run the config again or if that doesn't help you could try to reinstall the game.
tried both.... dont work. ugh. so irritating.
here's the details on it, don't know if this will help.

are you over-clocking. When i first started playing i was overclocked to 3.9 and i would crash after a few mins even though that is usually fine with everything else. I scaled it back to 3.7 and it has run fine ever since.
my cpu is a 3.2 amd quad-core if it matters.
I got a little further a minute ago... I got to the title screen where you can play the game, watch opening movie, etc. I went to play the game, and it gave me the same old crash. I cant even get back to the title screen though, it's bringing me back to previous attempts where I can't get to the title screen. lol what a headache.
not sure if I'm overclocking? I guess I shouldnt be? I don't think I am... I haven't touched the settings since I've gotten this PC, but I didn't buy it from a store, I got it from a friend.
what kind of graphics card is in the pc. This game requires a rather high end computer. In fact list you cpu gpu and memory.
processor brand Intel
processor model Pentium
memory 4 GB
hard drive capacity 500 GB
optical drive DVD±RW
operating system Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
processor speed 3.2 GHz
frontside bus speed 800 MHz
memory speed PC3-8500
memory type DDR3 SDRAM
maximum memory capacity 8 GB
video graphics Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics with shared memory
audio hardware HD Audio, up to 5.1-channel sound
and as for overclocking it, I checked the setup, its not overclocking, I can't even see where I can change the settings on it. I see its status but won't let me change it... I'm just too computer illiterate.
hmm a little research done... and maybe the graphics card is cruddy?... everything else seems fine... I tried to download the benchmark too, it won't even run, but it says the file is corrupted, not sounding like a problem with the graphics card.
yes the fact that it is an integrated gpu tells me its not good. i have a radeon 5870 which runs the game perfect, its a little pricy though. A radeon 5770 should run the game pretty good too and cost about $100.00 online, maybe cheaper if you look around. If you are looking at the minimum price best performance you may want to start another thread just for that so people can help you.
The good news is the rest of your pc seems up to date.
Also, have you run the bench mark test. Its not 100 percent accurate but i believe they also give you the minimum gpus required.
