Suggestion: Mount> Cloud's Bike

Got a suggestion. How about they focus less on mounts, minions, emotes and vanity crap and more on server resources and getting this game up to snuff so everyone has the ability to enjoy all aspects of the game. Once they can stop using server stability, resources, strain as an excuse then go back to the crap that seems to be taking frontline priority so far in this game.

Edit: I happen to love all the vanity stuff but I would rather have a game that is not full of excuses as to why they can't implement something right the first time.

Lore wise it would never happen, and would never meant to be in Eorzea. Was a stretch with Lightning (I felt Shantotto was more viable). If you want a "Fenrir" mount then....

You do realize that they use different teams for this kind of stuff right?

I dunno guys. With FFXV on the horizon we're about to get even more future-themed vanity and events. We'll probably be seeing that black car driving around Eorzea starting FATEs soon. >___>

It would look awkward with the way mounts work too. It would never accelerate, it would always go at the same speed, it could stop moving in an instant. Things like that, not only would it be out of place, but it would look bizarre because of how mounts work.

Something like the motorcycle mini-game in the original FFVII Golden Saucer brought over to FFXIV's Golden Saucer? That I could get behind.

I'll throw support behind it. Might be a hated opinion but I'd love to be riding around on a motorcycle. I mean, I've got a two-legged mechanical monstrosity already so it's not really immersion breaking at this point.

I suggest a pre-frontal lobotomy also.

Because that magitek isn't just some randomass thing. The Garlean empire was designed to loosely resemble several empires from the FF franchise, and FFVI was very clearly one of them. So it completely fits with the lore. You know, the main story?

Your motorcycle...well it doesn't fit. Not at all. Also, the hell do you expect to do to make your motorcycle jump? Throw a ramp in front of it?

It could come from the allagan empire for the lore and modified by cid and have him add in a simple booster or something like that to help make it jump.

NO! Please don't make this world even less unique. Eorzea was its own world in 1.0, now people from a dozen other games are flooding it, making XIV resemble Traverse Town in kingdom hearts more than a place of its own. And a big ass motorsycle, that Cloud from grim yet futuristic VII with its rusty metal theme used to ride, in the Shroud? No thank you!
VII is one of my favourite FF titles, but that doesn't mean I want it to infiltrate every other game out there. Let VII be VII, and XIV be XIV.

There's nothing wrong with a motorcycle mount, just not in this game. It simply does not belong here. It would be way better in the Secret World, where it would actually make sense. For the record I never really liked the magitec mount either, though it is incorporated in the lore well enough to work. It's also still a piece of clanky, quite slow piece of technology, not some fast paced futuristic device.

Fair enough. I guess for me I look around and it already seems silly to me at times. The goldsmith quest has that robot in it. The entire Garlean empire seems to use random technology with no reason to what's included. We have airships. The bomb balloon chair mount thing from the kobolds. The behemoth mount. Pretty much any quest that features a Lalafell. Plus motorcycles have been used in more Final Fantasy games than just VII (though that was the original post's suggestion I suppose).

Mamets are actually about as far as we can get in terms of robotic technology, and they have Mamet Cores that allow them to have a bit of intelligence as well as emotion. It wouldn't work for a Motorcycle. Also, the Garleans arn't handing out their technology. The only reason we get the Magitek armor is because you essentially steal it.

I'd like more beast type mounts, and the ability to summon them as companions instead of just your chocobo. Giant burping Dodo mounts for everyone!

Well, since there are no other motorcycles in the game I would say no. Maybe once they get added I could see it (still a stretch) but not really the best idea at the moment.

Actually XIV was stated to be a place where all the other FF's come together and there will be more content like the Lightning and Shantoto events someday. This is a possibility, however it is unlikely. We will more likely get some vanity gear like the Lightning event.

As for other sources of lore for this, Garleans could create bikes/motorcycles and we simply take their technology like we did the magitek.

That seems more like a 7/8/13/15 thing.
Most high technology in this world is bloated, industrial with a baroque facade, and belonging to the bad guys. You would need to heavily stylize it to make it fit. Something along the lines of 6, and even then it would feel like it's going very slow simply due to mount speed.

I'd have to say lore wise it would make sense after a bit more time, we're definitely on a path where this could make sense and I'd argue that technically two civilizations at least could have done this already (Garleans, alive now - Allagans.. not so alive now).

Gramul's point is very good though.. it would feel slow until they up the speed at least or add some sort of sprint gimmick (special effects, zoom back a camera 80% feeling speed 20% speed boost.. lol)

I could see it possibly work when they have us go into the heart of the empire. Considering the sleek airships, mentioning of the phantom train and what not they probably have quick single passenger bike-type stuff closer to home. Hell could even throw in the chase scene from the highways. xD

As it stands currently though, Eorzeans don't have the knowledge for that kinda stuff, they just 'borrow' what they get their hands on.

Clouds specific bike he uses? More than likely never. I'm all for the Fan service, and FF X-overs, but Yoshi already said certain Final Fantasy games would never touch Eorzea because their storyline is already closed and would never make sense. One of his examples back in the Beta days was specifically FF7. So I really don't ever see Cloud's anything ending up in FFXIV:ARR.

Well, why would they need them? Magitech works land and rough terrain perfectly. They have trams and airships for everything else.

I mean, it's the reason they don't have cars too. The technology is mostly made to be fantastic, not contemporary.

Basically, it's not about it being too high tech, it's about it fitting in with the world

Agreed, the technology of a motorcycle could definitely fit within the lore of the gameworld.
I think a motorcycle or something like that could be cool as a mount, just not specifically Cloud's bike for stylistic reasons. Something like a hover-quad based off Garlean airship technology, something like that I could get behind as it is tailored specifically to the game.

Its not why we need a Motorcycle, its why we WANT ONE!!!! I WANT ONE!!! LOL

Oh don't get me wrong, I disagree too o.O but the premise of some of the counterarguments had me scratching my head...

This is one of those topics that comes around every few months. Many of the same people come and talk about 'lore' and 'immersion' but it always seams to boil down to, "I DON'T LIKE IT, SO YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!!!"

Personally I'm ok with this idea. It could be fun. However if it never happens I'm ok with that too. It's just one of those things.
