Is it too late to start on Relic upgrade?

As the title inquires, is it?

Just now thinking of maybe starting for either my WAR or DRG. My BLM will have the soldiery weapon next week. I was wanting a conqueror for my WAR but that is another three weeks of soldiery. Torn between weapon spending or upgrading left side. The smart side says upgrade left side but also doesn't want to start Atma.

At a cross road here and could use some input.

Depends on what you'd consider your main, with Relics being upgraded its nice to just focus that as your main or only focus on one upgraded Relic. The most important stat for all Jobs is your weapon i.e. weapon/magic damage. If you're lucky and can get your Atmas fast the process becomes easier, you just need to be able to farm the myth. The good thing about Novus is you can change the stat and with Bravura you have 4 choices you can roll with accuracy/parry/determination/crit rate...2 of those being fairly cheap and the other 2 being very expensive. Conqueror isn't a bad choice, it's a really nice weapon but it's a patch away from being irrelevant while Relic can pass it now as Novus and even more so with Nexus.

Don't expect the Atma grind to be easy, let alone getting the myth necessary to upgrade to Animus and beyond. Until your weapon is upgraded to Animus, its stats are considerably weaker than the equivalent ilvl 100 soldiery weapon. Each book boosts the stats, but only up to the level it should be for its level. Once you get Novus, the disparity widens since you can customize which stats you want.

Personally, I really don't see a point to the grind any more. The ilvl 110 weapons are fit for purpose, giving comparable stats to a moderate Novus weapon, and even the recent upgrade won't entice me to go through that hell again just to upgrade my WHM. To be honest, I'm not even convinced I'll be able to finish Novus in my own lifetime due to the prohibitive costs involved.

Still, that's just my humble opinion and no doubt others will have theirs too.

I actually don't like it I have it for my main. The soldiery weapon is just as good as the Novus and the HA will be on par with the Nexus (considering you can have the Nexus before 2.4). If I had known, I'd do it for an alt job so it has a close to BiS MH which is always nice when you need to swap roles for endgame.

Now would be the perfect time to start it though. I think it's about 6 weeks before 2.4. You can do it at a moderate pace and have it ready for 2.4, just my thinking.

Actually, if what they said in the patch notes is true, you may not be able to have it before 2.4. There might be a hidden cap to progress that goes up as time passes.

It's never too late to start on getting your relic weapon upgraded, but realize that there's a ton of work involved and judging by what they've said when the Atma grind came out, I don't think there's going to be any point where you can skip any of the grinds. It could also be an excuse for them to suddenly include new content in later patches and make it the "strongest" weapon for that class.

Personally, I'm only going to do it for my Bard and my Ninja when it comes out because those will probably be the two classes that I love playing the most. I'm also on the fence for Black Mage, but I have a love/hate relationship with the look of that staff (Nexus looks amazing on it though).

I'm probably going to wait until they ease the grind, if they do. Otherwise meh

I'm about halfway through the animus books (5/9) and I'm considering putting it on hold and just getting a soldiery weapon, especially now they are throwing out sands all over the place.

Ideally I would get Novus and spend soldiery on gear, but at the pace I am going at 2.4 will be out before I get my animus. It seems like it is much easier to just get whatever new weapons are added with updates rather than the long process of the relic quest.

With sands and tomestones plentyful i just can't justify the grind, and usually when they make the upgrades this common they are preperaing for something better to come out, so i would suggest just getting soildery and waiting, relic grinding just seems like something to keep you busy as the stat difference on some of them are minor at best, excluding the massive gill sink option.

I think the upgrade is optional, it's never late to do it. I'd go for it if I was bored and looked into expanding my to-do list. I'm up to date with my main relic wise, working on Nexus.

Thank you all for your input, good views. I agree that this might turn into a leisurely thing for an alt. My main tank(PLD) and main dps(BLM) will have the soldiery weapons and I will prolly start on a slow relic upgrade for war, well while I periodically farm atma I will work on getting a different weapon from Levi or Ramuh EX, or eventually coil.

Animus is only expensive if you buy crit/det IVs. You are GSM 50 so can craft Electrum accessories and SB them for 3s. Lower level ones (which bind super-fast) for Is and IIs. Go something like 33 Crit, 23 Det and either 19 acc or 19 parry. Bind the accessories whilst running Fates for the ATMA. Buy SB potions from the GC from the seals you earn from Fate farming.

Any IVs you luck on you can sell to those crazy enough to pay 300-400k per. Also, if you put 19 accuracy on it, thats 19 accuracy you don't need on a piece of armor.

Thats What I did on MNK Novus, the IVs I sold bought me a personal house XD

I came back to FF a month or so ago and decided to make a drg.

I got lucky with atma and got it done in 2 days.

Animus took me 2 weeks. The myth part is laughable now with hunts, along with the myth u get from your weekly dungeon running. I maybe could have done it faster animus is just so soul destroyingly boring, it took me a bit longer than I expected.

Novus was about another 2 weeks. It's made faster if you're willing to spend not only myth, but also allied seals on alexandrites. Every 10 A marks = 2 aleandrites. I only used about 6 grade IV material though, so my novus cost me under 4m. If you wanted to use no grade VI materia, it would cost under 1m and if you wanted to use full grade VI materia it would cost about 15-20m. ( this is if you need to use savage aim and savage might ). I actually don't recommend trying to to SB your own materia IVs. I did it for the entire time I did atma and animus and got no matera IV I needed. Also, novus is customisable materia by materia once you reach the nexus stage I have heard. Also, the difference of a few secondary stats is honestly laughable. That 15-20m doesn't even net u 1% damage increase, so do think about it.

So no, it definitely is not too late to start on it. You could have novus done before 2.4 probably unless atma really takes the piss about it.
