2.4 for the new dyes? (metallic gold/silver, pure white, jet black)

Or are they in the game already? They're green items and untradeable so might be some kind of quest reward or something.

I don't see why they added the new category displaying the unobtainable dyes. It seems like adding the new category is such a minor thing that they could easily have added it along with the actual dyes.

I'm sure it was just an oversight, when they were putting together to the patch, and it'll probably be resolved next update. Nothing to be too confused over.

They most likely added all the items and just have them disabled from any loot tables they may come from server side. I am going to go out on a limb and guess data miners will find these, the nin armor, and the intirior layout of the rouge guild has already been placed on the end user files.

It may be the mechanism for obtaining the new dyes that isn't settled yet - they're probably still be debating what insane combination of demimateria, four-star gathering and soldiery materials it'll take to make them.

rare S rank hunting kill drop, there that should make the damn things hard enough to obtain.

I'm going to be highly annoyed if it's a hot mess of drama just to obtain a PROPER white and black dye.

They already revealed that the means to get these during the TGS event is via ventures.

Was there a video or notes? I haven't seen any info on the dyes. So, if it's ventures, it's another basic thing that forces people to pray to RNG gods. Awesome.

Regarding the retainer’s “quick exploration venture,” the following have been added to the list of rare items a retainer can only obtain once they are above a certain item level/gathering ability.

My retainer brought me two of the metallic silver today, so they are now available

what level are your retainers? I tried today I did 8 "quick explorations" on each (total 16) and I didn't get one. My retainers are/were level 44 and level 46.
do they have to be level 50 to get these?
Edit: are they untradable? i notice there is no slot on the market boards either.

From what I've read, retainers have to be level 50, and they should be around ilvl 80 to have the highest chance of getting the dyes.

Awesome! Does your retainer need to be able to bring back rare items? It mentions they need to be above a certain ilvl or gathering ability, could it mean only rare item bringer backers?

I've gotten the black and white so far. I am wondering if they will make is sellable or tradable in the future?

My retainer is ilvl82

I've gotten only white so far. Hoping to get silver or gold someday ><;

got 2x2 silver, 4x2 black and 1x2 white so far

my retainers are all mid ilvl 80

I'm still wondering if anyone has obtained Metallic Gold yet. If not, it must either be bugged or require a high ilvl than the rest of the dyes.

Yeah I've yet seen anyone with a golden dye... yet I obtained silver 2x3, white 2x2 and black 2x2 >< dat elusive gold dye... and my 3 retainers are all above i90+.

It seems that if you dont have a retainer with i80+ gear, you wont see any dyes. I have sent my retainers out on over 40 ventures and still get the usual stuff of fish, furniture, house parts and other stuff. I'd equip my retainers with better gear but I cant afford to right now and the myth gear is job specific. Guess I will have to wait until 2.4 when they unlock the higher level gear that is fully cross job.

I’d like to explain a little bit about an error that occurred during a recent update, which led to metallic gold dye failing to drop in quick exploration ventures. The update was intended to make all the rare dyes drop with equal probability, but due to a programming error, the last line of data failed to trigger. As the metallic gold dye came at the end of the list, this meant that it couldn’t be obtained. I’m really sorry about this.

I know a lot of you were excited about playing around with the dyes, and spent a lot of ventures sending out your retainers to find them.

By way of apology, we’ll be sending all players with active subscriptions, including internet café-only subscriptions, four pots of metallic gold dye via the Moogle Delivery Service. (This applies to full accounts only. Unfortunately, players with free trial accounts will not receive this letter.)

We’ve addressed the problem on our end, and the QA team is currently making sure everything works as it should. We’re planning to release a hotfix to correct the issue on Thursday, October 16. We’ll send out the pots of dye via the Moogle Delivery Service at the same time. As soon as we can confirm when the issue will be fixed, or when the letters will be sent, we’ll post it in Topics straight away.

Please note that this is the first time we’ve implemented this method of drop randomization. None of these changes affect drop calculations for other items, which we’ve verified to be working as intended.

I apologize again for this error, and hope the gift will go some way to making up for the problems it caused.

How about i get those ~300-350 ventures back i tried finding them instead of a measly 4 pots that EVERYONE, not only those with retainers that actually can find them, gets. Or the ~50-60k seals i blew on that and rather could've saved for 2.4 for new stuff that is probably comming. Or a couple 100 shards for the stuff i crafted to get those seals?

Quite disappointed that it took you 5 days to find that out. Now i don't really want them anymore either if everyone and there grandmother is running around as Powerranger Gold...

Anyways - Thank you announcing it pre Hotfix, 2 days more to send my retainers back to useful stuff ('-')/

They didn't have to give you anything, and you made the conscious decision to send your retainers out.

I think there was a mistake with the Pure White dye, too. I didn't receive any, despite running dozens and dozens of ventures (I've gotten 4 black and 2 silver). Maybe we should get 4 of each color. A sample platter of dyes.

I'm just kidding. The gold dye will be nice. Don't plan to use it on anything at the moment, but maybe I'll find something. Just really want that white dye, so my WHM outfit can be whiter than white. ^_^

Just can't seem to make some people happy. As the saying goes, you can't please everyone. I personally have two 50 retainers and two that are level 47, almost there to send all four out. I know stuff happens, especially in a big game like FFXIV. A lot of programming and fixing to give us such a wonderful game experience. I thank FFXIV for announcing and fixing this for us and for sending out the pots for all to enjoy. I personally think it is fine to share with all. Even if it is just a color. Even with retainers that can get the dyes, I have no problem sharing with others. Thank you so much SE for such a wonderful game and all the hard work every one of you does behind the scenes to give us all a great gaming experience!!!

P.S. I have gotten Pure White ones. Only I have not is the gold.

I gotten 6 white dyes in the past few days. And I thought I was really unlucky with the gold dye. Glad to see it's an issue that's going to get fixed.

Stuff like this is what I don't understand. Why can't people just want something cause they like it...gotta have it because no one else does. Who gives a sh1t? If you like the color, use it. In 3 or 4 weeks, the vast majority will get tired of it and change, and you'll still have the shiny gold you like.

And you know what? You PROBABLY wouldn't have gotten any anyway. So calm your self. I send my i90 retainer out all the time and all I ever get is 4silver alagan coin things and 5 courel leathers.

He/she is probably pissed because they'll no longer be able to try and charge someone $100,000 gil (per item) to dye it (2 seconds of their time) for them.
