Macro Cancellation, Please.

Hello. It would be useful to be able to somehow cancel a macro that is currently playing out. Like i know you can do it by just executing another macro. like, /echo "Macro Off".
But i don't think that is real solution.

I am unsure of how such functionality would be implemented and used. Maybe make it so if you try to execute a macro that is already running that it will stop. I am unsure if this would impede anyone when trying to do something specific or not.


Either way, it would be useful to have something easily accessible to stop a currently playing macro. It would be VERY useful for crafting.

So - you're basically asking SE for implementing ("hard coding") something you can already do by another macro - why? It will still take one of the action bar / crossbar slots to be able to use it so why to waste the dev team time on this instead of letting them to develop something we can't do at all? I also don't like the idea of "terminating" the macro by running it again (unless it would be optional) as many macros out there actually depends on repeated pressing of the macro button and you'd need to press it twice each then ...

I'm sorry if my reply sounded like that - I'm sometimes a bit "hasty" in replying and I might not realize how what I've wrote my be perceived by others (that's also reply to your P.S. question ;) - it was not meant in any way as bashing or offensive. I was simply wondering what benefit (apart of spending dev's time coding it) would the dedicate "Cancel Macro Execution" command / action have if you'd still need to place it on the action bar slots or keybind it, nothing else ... Although - there is one possible "benefit" of the hardcoded function - you'd be be ale to macro it although I'm not able right now to imagine real use of such command in the macro as at start of the macro it would be redundand and in the middle of the macro kinda pointless as it would never execute rest of the macro after it (unless you'd use that as a "comments" or something like that. It would become usefull if the conditional executing / some kind of "IF" command would be available in the macros.

To more elaborate - while I might be a bit hasty in posting some "PC incompatible" comments (PC standing for Policitaly Correct, not Personal computer ;) ) the forum moderators are amazingly fast at banning people voicing unpopular oppinions or posting replies which could be even slightly seen as "offensive" so ... one complain from offended fellow forum poster and there you go :(

there's no need to be so high strung about it. i did say it was uncertain if that would be a good method or not. also, i imagine the only reason you would have to hit it twice like you say is if you are executing the same macro before it finishes in the first place. but maybe there is a reason to why someone would want to spam a macro.(button mashers?) i don't know.

in any case... even a keybind/button would work too. heck, could just combine the macro cancel function in with the cast cancel function.

hm. well i think it would be particularly useful for crafting. macros just aren't very craft friendly. and it's for the exact reason because of something like you mentioned. our macro system is very lacking. we have no access to such things like "if" and "else" statements. we can't add any checks against the condition of our item.

but i don't think it could cause any player an inconvenience to simply attach such a function to an already existing function. like the cancel casting function. anyone who uses that will already be familiar with it. and it won't require any extra user configuration either.

I'll be straying a bit off-topic here, but I wish we had the <st> line of placeholders from FFXI. They're really, really handy for their main purpose, but I also used them for this kind of thing all the time.

The macro wouldn't progress past the first action until I selected a target to echo on that second line, and (IIRC) if I canceled instead of selecting a target, it would stop there and not process the following lines.

Although that may be why we don't have them. SE's stance on macros makes it clear they don't want them to be all that efficient, or to adjust to your exact GCD, and allowing that sort of behavior with <st> would allow just that.

Actually, I would love for them to implement something to cancel a running macro. I run into situations all the time where a single mishap would ruin my flare macro, using abilities I would otherwise need to use at a different time, thus forcing me to use an ability and have to wait for CD to reuse. You can absolutely use another macro and it supersedes the one currently running, such as a shout macro that I have, but not getting to it in time proves troublesome.

I would absolutely love a "cancel macro" command for crafting. With lag being what it is, I frequently have times when a macro will either destroy a craft or NQ it, since the only times I use macros for crafting is when I can 100% HQ a craft w/o hasty touch and a bit of lag at the wrong moment can throw the whole macro off.

Initiating blacklist stops any ongoing crafting/combat macro, might want to give it a shot to see if it works okay for you guys. (No idea if blacklisting in dungeon works)
You can set it like /blist add "Cancel Mymacropls" or any other names that people won't use (To avoid blacklisting actual player).

I tested with both crafting and combat macros (15 heavy shots lol), subsequent actions won't run when the blacklist confirm window pops.

Are you saying initiating the blacklist stops macros regardless of how you do it (i.e., through the menu or a non-macro keybinding)? Or have you only tested with the macro? Because any macro interrupts & cancels another macro. It is known (and mentioned right in the OP).

Sorry my bad, I didn't noticed the macro thing was already stated in OP. Yeah I was talking about that one by the way. xD

I macro by hotbar change exception. Under the same crosshotbar button, ([X]) I place my most commonly used chains. For instance:

/ac "fast blade"
/chotbar change 2

/ac "savage blade"
/chotbar change 3

/ac "rage of halone"
/chotbar change 1

On my circle button ([O]) have a reset.

/ac "shield swipe"
/ac "shield bash"
/chotbar change 1

The combination of the two allows for 1-button continuous chaining of skills, with a second button returning back to the start point, at any point in the chain. By doing this, you do not need a macro interrupt, you just have to pay attention and reset as needed.
