Android/iPhone Authenticator Application

Think we could get one? :) The Authenticators that came with the Collector's Edition kind of add to desk clutter, and are really hard to see, especially in the dark.

But... but the security of personal information on a cell phone is nearly nonexistent...

Even if you secure it, if you like FFXIV enough to download your confirmation token to a phone, then you probably like it enough to download other applications for the game - which means that all it will take is one fraudulent jackass to trojan horse it off you.

Idk if SE'd be willing to open another hole that might lead to them getting more angry phone calls and fixing more hacked accounts.

Yes, (Activision-)Blizzard has one downloable for free to authenticate to your Battle.Net™ Account.

Security of a smartphone is as strong as the security YOU you put on it. Also keep in mind that not everyone jailbreak or download unofficial software on their phone. Sorry but if "one fraudulent jackass" trojan something into your smartphone, you probably done something you shouldn't have in the first place or just didn't put any lock password. Same for people who get their WoW account hacked because they believed some hoax e-mail or that woman who lost tons of money because on an e-mail from a Nigerian Prince.

SE wouldn't open any security holes, the authenticator would actually narrow an already opened hole.

The only ones that fall in these are either ignorant (and unfortunately they learn the hard way) or plainly stupid.

Blizzard and Trion are using them already, some games still in development have announced they will support them, others already out are looking into supporting those as well.

The way these authenticators work a trojan can't really do anything harmful, that's exactly the point of using them.

Really??? damn i thought they went extnct.

But joking aside this would be a good idea, there have been threads before but no reply from the reps. Its somthing you will always have with you, you can use anti-virus software for smartphones if your afraid of malicious apps. SE will have to make software for all smartphones for it to work though, I would gladly pay a little for it (about £2) .

There are also other apps, like an official character lookup app (theres an unofficial one for android however) for example, and possibly a square enix account manager app, I would download all of these.

i'd like one that just doesn't run out of batteries in a year, make it so we can replace the battery or make it so it lasts a life time, or plugs into something to restore battery lfe. i don't want to buy a new one every year, ...dang you all and your planned obsolescence. :)

but yeah the idea of one on a phone would be cool, i just dont use a cellphone so this still don't fix my main problem, i don't want it breaking down on me forcing me to buy a new one. and a program on cellphone fixes this for people who use cellphone so it's a really great idea. +1

Nobody cares about second-rate phones like Android or Blackberry.

A mobile auth app for iOs would be great, like EQ2s, WoWs and Rifts. Even GMAIL uses it now.

Don't forget that the iPad has FF3 in full 3D with improved features over the DS version as well. And FF1 and 2 are on iPhone along with tactics. The iPad is getting FF Tactics HD soon.

Ahh the morons who think there awesome because they buy stupidly overpriced things, oh whats that you slept in when the clocks changed cos your alarm didnt go off, well mine did so it seems like your stupidly over priced phone isnt as good as my android one.

Are you sure about that?

Note that the chart there is only for Q2 of 2011. Looking back at all of 2010 even Blackberry had a higher marketshare than iPhone.

nice SE finaly gets that the droid market is just as big if not bigger then iOS. the only thing is i can already get 90% of those games on 5+ other devices (including my droid with emulators) but still stuff like choas rings will be nice to try.
