Boredom 101: Creating the final Zodiac Weapon

So i'm sitting here griding for Animus... waiting on a particular FATE that takes 2-3 hours to pop... and I just got to thinking about the future of Relic weapons. I am totally into the relic weapon progression and was very much into XI's version as well. So. Decided to take my uber L337 MS paint skills and just make what I'd be excited to obtain. Enjoy XD. This is completely speculation and for fun. Not meant to be impersonating any content and/or anything like that. All original content and rights to Square-Enix.

Does the final weapon flash constantly causing children to convulse in seizures?

Because that's the only way to go if were going to maximum gaudiness with gear upgrade design these days.

Legendary grade step requires you to procure x5 Unobtainium, and then forge it in the Crucible of the Flaming Fist during a solar eclipse on a Leap Year

And this solar eclipse + leap year combination must also take place during either the winter or summer solstice.

You forgot the sacrifice of 1000 virgins, along with all the other requirements.

I've a sneaky suspicion the fnial phase of the relic will be called Zodiac XD

Sphairai Zodiac for example.

Zodiac weapon chain/series. So it being called in its final incarnation Zodiac makes sense (to me at least ^_^ ).

I think it should be "sacrifice yourself to 1000 virgins" ^^

I am guessing it is gonna be just like every other weapon in the game. Higher iLv. Higher stats. Different glow. Whoopdie-doo. No special abilities, no special stats, no special anything else. I think the devs forgot how to be creative. They only know how to rebrand old shit with a new look. You can wrap a turd in tin foil, but it's still just a turd.

I first want to see what is required to obtain grindus in 2.38, to have an idea how far they are willing to go.

I agree with this. I would like some nice flare to the Zodiacs, such as Enhancing job skills or additional effects. Example, Gae Bolg Zodiac "Increases Jump Potency by 10" or Holy Shield Zodiac "Returns 1% of damage to attackers"

What happened to speed running through half the game, entering a high level dungeon where you will be ohko, and opening the second last treasure on the left in the third row to get a Zodiac Weapon? Some people just make this far to complicated XD

As much as I love things like that, I really don't like seeing them in MMOs.

Main reason is gear elitism.

"Don't join if you don't have x item"
"Don't join if your weapon doesn't have x ability"

It's happened in every MMO (that I've played) that has had unique effects on the gear, and I hate it.

You can make them so weak that it just isn't worth it to be elitist over the special effects, but then I have to argue about what the point of it is if they're that negligible.

Or add similar effects to other things to compensate. Yoshida did mention they were interested in trying out more specific/weird stats (I believe the one he mentioned was Shield Bash +50 or something), so hopefully we'll see some of it. This game needs a lot in terms of interesting stats on gear if this is going to be any kind of successful gear treadmill game.

But after that, for x250 Unobtainium you get a slightly cooler glow on the weapon!

No actually, you lose the glow, but instead get a recolor and have absolutely no stat or damage increase, despite it being a higher item level.

I think it would be a horrible mistake for them not to include a special stat. I'm sure weapons in the future will have stat bonuses as well, but the final relic stage would top them slightly and unlock a special ws/ability. I don't know why they wouldn't do this. It would give hardcore players something to be proud of, and give casual players something to look forward to down the road. XI was as 'gear elitism' as it gets, but it didn't mean you couldn't get an engame spot if you didn't have a final stage relic weapon. I just think it would really give players that special weapon to look forward to.

Next phase will be called Solus or Solaris, calling it!!!
