Question about fracture, skill speed, and clipping.

Hello,

I recently changed my main over from PLD/WAR to DRG. Ive been getting the rotation down no problem and am having incredible fun with DRG. I have 1 multifaceted question about the rotation as it pertains to skill speed and DoT clipping.

Right now my GCD's are at 2.47 with the amount of SS that I have. Following the standard rotation, I run into problems where my buffs/dots are about to fall off/stay on one GCD longer than when they need to be reapplied.

Is it a good idea to (while getting more skill speed to get GCD's to 2.44) use fracture in those spots so the keep from clipping/overlapping buffs and dots?

short answer: no

Clipping is not the devil. Fracture is not good for DRG.

Drgs don't use fracture because of its TP cost and lack of potency. You really shouldn't be clipping your dots too much if you're following the rotation properly. If you clip a chaos thrust with around 3secs left, thats ok.

Try not to stack skill speed, it takes something like 10 SS to drop your GCD by 0.01 secs. You'd much rather have those extra secondary stats in det or crit.

Fracture's actually bad on all jobs that can use it, not just DRG.

Not all jobs, just dps roles. Fracture is worth using on War when buffed with berserk and on pld when buffed with fight or flight.

A good DRG stays 100 miles away from fracture.

So, I have a stupid question >_<;;;; DPS is something of a second hand job for me, and my main WHMing... so I'm slightly behind on dps terminology, etc x.x

What exactly is 'Clipping'? I'm assuming it's when you fire off another skill before the prior used skill completed it's animation? Using bard for example, (since I do this now and then on my secondary character) - like jamming Misery's End right right before BLoodletter finishes it's longer animation? (or, I guess, BLoodletter or Misery's End after any used skill...)

Clipping is when you reapply a buff/debuff, usually a DoT, before it's run out. If you use Touch of Death again while your first Touch of Death still has 6 seconds left, you're clipping ToD, and wasting two ticks of the first one. As a general rule, you don't want to clip DoTs because of this waste, but there are circumstances where it's all right. Mainly if the reapplication results in more overall potency, even with the clipping factored in, than using another skill instead of reapplying the DoT, or if reapplying keeps the rest of your rotation from going screwy and leaving you in a bad place (which, really, is the same as "more overall potency").
