I guess this isn't just SMN But anyone else feel like FFXI classes more towards SMN and their pets was more in depth spells, gear, ect. compared to now which is kinda slow play. 2.4 second cast.

You've got to be trolling.
Yay, another thread comparing XIV's summoner to XI's summoner.
Fun times incoming.
FFXIs gear was more complex for every job. 80 slots of pure gear swaps sometimes using 30 pieces of gear for a single spell.
But SMN was incredibly boring to play in 11. You could cast an attack every 45 seconds.
Yeah controlling mainly the pet was very SMN like and being DoT whore isn't but 14s SMN has a ton more to do at any given moment.
The only thing I would want from 11 is the large graphic models.
FFXI =/= Final Fantasy series Summoner
/37 WHM =/= deep and complex class.
I was hoping for a shot by shot ff comparison demonstrating the clear difference of only the last rendition of SMN. . XD
If only comparing XI to XIV.. They looked neat! Lol I was leaving around the time they made a lot of changes to the SMN, so what I saw was mostly the never ending mana pool and buff buff fenris (who looked amazing XD).
Yeah, past summons are just glorified spells in most titles. Rydia's a black mage with a flashy attack, I don't get the hate for FFXIV's summoner, it's pretty much what it's always been :/Quote:

This is a well known topic, but always good to see it resurface.
The pets do need more variety with their abilities. For the most part, I just feel like I DoT and Fester all the time instead of actually controlling my pet. The only thing I do as far as controlling is Garuda's Contagion and the occasional special attack.
Instead of beating a dead lala over and over and bringing up this classic topic up again...can't we just go with the "this is a different world hence different way things are" responce? lol.
