Could someone help me with the Pro's and Con's of spending Myth?

I just hit lvl 50 as a Monk about a week ago, and have been accruing a small bit of Mythology since then (haven't been able to play every day). For some reason, I wound up really enjoying the Monk, even though I had always planned to level up either a Paladin, or possibly a Warrior, since I figure Tanks are always in high demand, and playing a Healer doesn't seem like it would be easy on a controller.

But now, I also have another option; just start hoarding Mythology, in preparation for the upcoming Ninja job.

On one side of things, I've actually wound up enjoying the Monk, and since it seems like a fairly uncommon Job, perhaps I'm best just getting myself Raid-ready, and just enjoy having a level 50 to play with my FC.

On another side of things, if I got to work on a Paladin, I could probably get myself in a good position so that when there *is* a massive influx of Ninjas all over the place, I could skate my way into a regular Raid-spot.

On the final side, I'm basically "behind the curve" from everyone else. The Ninja, on the other hand, is a chance to level the playing-field, in such a way that I'm no worse-geared than any other Ninja running around (barring those in high-end FC's that can gear each other up quickly).

Anyone mind lending your own insight?

Unless you have extremely little play time, it's way too early to be hording myth.

I can hit myth cap multiple times a day doing hunts.

From your post it seems like maybe you're talking about Soldiery instead of Myth but if not here's my two cents!

1. Myth accrues very fast, and the cap is quite low for how fast you can cap it. If you store 2000 myth for ninja when it comes, it might buy you 3-4 pieces of gear that is well below the current gear cap. This is assuming that Myth doesn't go away like Philosophy did when the 2.2 hit. Spend your myth liberally!

2. Hunts are a very fast way to gear up. If you spend an hour a day doing hunts, you'll have a set of ilevel 90 gear very quickly that can be used to raid with your friends. The bonus with hunts is you gain Soldiery, Myth AND Seals, all of which can be used to upgrade your gear in a different way.

3. When 2.4 comes out everyone will be behind the curve! I wouldn't worry about it.

Actually, both WHM and SCH are quite easy to play well using a controller. I can't stand keyboard/mouse controls and don't see how anyone could ever be comfortable using them for anything, but that's just me. Whatever you're most comfortable using is the best interface for you. Some people it's keyboard/mouse, others like me, it's gamepad.

No one knows exactly when ninja will be released unless there's been an official announcement that I'm not aware of, and you don't even know if you'll enjoy playing it or not when it is. Far all you know, you could hate it and never get it all the way to 50. Seems a long time to be holding onto your myth for something that you may not even like. My suggestion would be to gear up the job that you enjoy playing first, and then worry about others. Spend that myth, it's not like it rains from the heavens or anything.

Pro - There's more where that came from.

Con - You loose out once you hit the cap.

Um, no. Unless you have obsessively compulsively memorized spawn points, methods of spawning S ranks, and have everyone on your team on the same page, it will take a while to cap using hunts. There is someone who posted he got to 2700 myth in 10 hours. That sounds believable to me. Saying you make that cap multiple times in the same day sounds like a load of crock. Even if you could most would be disinclined to do so for the sheer fact it would bore them to tears. Maybe as a marathon day, but certainly not on a daily basis.

For the new guy: Doing hunts would be great to get a few of the pieces you want, but since you are new to 50 there are a lot more interesting things for you to do than hunts. Try out some of the end game dungeons on duty finder. You'll get myth from doing them and perhaps some decent pieces of equipment as well. You'll quickly gain all ilvl 90 with a mixture of myth and allied seals, so there is no reason to rush. I would try getting in a few hunts to help speed things up.

2700 myth in 10 hrs is extremely low especially before they nerfed B Ranks as I was bringing in 1.5k+ myth in under 3 hours. You will still get more than 2700 myth in 10 hours even after the removed the awards from B Rank, sounds like the guy that mentioned 2.7 k in 10 hrs wasn't participating in that many hunts.

You can't really hoard myth with a 2k cap
2k is very little in the long run when you consider the 10k+ you need just for a relic quest alone

The reason I'm trigger happy on the hunts recommendation is even though you do get resources fast, I do not think he should be spending all his time doing that when he is fresh to level 50. He should do enough to get himself in his full ilvl 90 set as long as he can tolerate doing the hunts, but try to keep it a little diverse so he doesn't get bored.

Hunts are not going to be anywhere near that lucrative unless:

1) The NMs actually render on your screen so you can get on their enmity list
2) You are in a dedicated hunt LS that actively keeps track of spawn times of everything
3) You actually don't do anything aside from hunts when they are due to spawn

Do you even hunt? There's 2 opening recruiting dynamic hunt LS on Balmung (seems like your server), you join it to hunt and leave when you are done with the session. Most players in there will share spawn locations. It is not rare to get 15+ of the 17 per round A pops. And memorizing methods of spawning S rank = bookmarking a thread on the forums... then I have it memorized? And as for keeping track of A spawns, there's always ffxivhunt, go google it.

That's either some shit luck or they are doing it wrong. Just after weekly reset this Tuesday, 4 Rank S popped within 2hrs, 3 of them were within 30mins of each other. Along with a few A's, I capped my Soldiery for the new week in about 3 hours after the reset. 200 myth per S rank, 80 myth per A rank. If you know how to do it, top rank each time unless it's just way overcrowded to the point that the mob depops on screen 80% of the time.

And I refered to "I", means me. I don't care if other people find it boring and not able to marathon it for over 30mins, I don't care if other people are anti-social and wants to do hunts solo or without the hunt LS's. All I know is on the weekend, when I have the time, I need to make a lot of trips to Mor Dhona to dump my mythology because it's getting close to cap.

When you unlock trial, high level, and expert roulette, your myths will start rolling in. That's roughly like what, 300 myths daily? So don't worry too much, and just use them up.

?!?! Spend your myth on your current gears & accessory to lv.90. Myth is very easy to farm!!

Pro: money
Con: no money

One night in a hunt group and you can be i90. Done. Save myth until you hit the cap. Spend soldiery on accessories which will be good for both monk and ninja.
