Healing tips (ps4)

Hello, im new in ffxiv and ps4, always played mmos on the pc, but now I only wanna play it on the console xD

I got a lvl 30 whm and a lvl 22 arcanist, I wanna lvl them both as a good healers. But im really new to the ps4, any tips for ui, macros, spellbar, petbar, shortcuts etc.

Also what bonus stats should I spent for the whm and scholar? I also wanna do some pvp, which one shine in pvp? Is it kill fairy and you cut half the healing? For PvE I wanna use both!

I put all my points in MND for both so my heals are bit bigger. For WHM, some people put them in either VIT so you have more health, or PIE so you have more MP.

When you get a chance, level THM to 28 (?) so you get Swiftcast, an invaluable action for healers as it will enable you to instantly raise a fallen member, summon your pet straight away, etc...

Both are viable healers in their own right. Personally, I favour SCH. Due to all the attack spells from ACN, I like to Cleric Stance dance and throw all my Dot's on an enemy and Bane, then go back to healing as needed :)

As for macros i don't suggest them on whm but on sch you can macro things like your fairies heals onto your reg skills. I wouldn't use the pet hotbar just because it throws me off. try just taking the skills and putting them on your own bars.

helpful, it eliminates two buttons and allows cure withou switching iff tank. i use that for stone an aero as well so in lower dungeons it misses the higher spell first so in raids it uses the stronger cause its available. virus i use the same way so i could just virus tank target and hit the boss. mainly it just helps in case you have a mob targeted by accident or the tank by accident it will attack mob or heal tank

ps4 i also dual trigger so my cure macro is r trigger circle but my dual right trigger pops all my cures so i can choose better. i dont do that with stone or aero cause it doesnt matter as much but it works pretty good for me.

- The way i do it is that i have a full bar dedicated strictly to healing, with single heals together, healing buffs together and aoe heals together, and a second bar is half healing & half dps (for whm, i dont sch.. ;;)
- Get your cross class skills quickly.. especially swiftcast, its a god send.

I dont understand what the macros means. And when I got cure2 I deleted cure. But its best to use both?! Mp management?

Cure 2 does *not* replace cure 1! You still need both and cure 1 you should use more than cure 2 since it doesn't use too much mp, use cure 2 for when your tank is hit too hard, and when it pops as free (u see a dotted line around the spell). MP management is having enough mp to last your through a run or battle. White mages can run out of mp fast so you have to use your cures and cool downs properly

I heal on ps4 and don't worry it's not as bad as you might think :)

Keep skill you want access to without having to move your thumb off the joy stick like swiftcast, divine seal etc and all your heals on your main hot bar (that's my personal preference, I have all my attack skills on the second hot bar).

You'll get really quick with practice racing up and down the party bar so u wouldn't worry about that. As for macros I personally don't use them. I keep the skills I would chain together aka swiftcast + raise next to each other to I can click them really fast.

For stats I went 2 mind 1 piety, you can reset your stats with an item from your grand company if you want to change them.

Don't know anything about scholar except is macro heavy and managing smn pets was a pain for me so I never used it.

I did my first dungeob as a scholar and it was awesome!

I did did 90% dmg and 10% healing my fairy did all the work lol

Anyone got a macro that makes the pet obey and heal the one I physick?!

I Highly recommend you do some research on macros. People can come list macros that they use, but once you understand them you can create your own as you see fit.

Agreed with Ringabell, plus, how your healing is set up is a very personal thing. I've seen some great macro ideas out there, but for whatever reason, I prefer a different approach. Conversely some macros I've seen went onto my bar immediately.

Grats on your first dungeon :)

1. Enable cross hotbar.
2. No skill replaces another skill. Take time to plan out how you will lay out your skills at lvl 50.
3. Macro attacks/debuffs to target <t> or <tt>, but don't try to do that for heals. Have your tank targeted and you can heal/attack without switching using those macros.

Sorry don't have time to elaborate on all those points.

Ah... Well, I won't be able to post on here much longer (someone remind me to make a video of all my macros so that I can remember to post up my macros later-though they are slightly outdated).

But a few tips:

Set up your target filters carefully. You will want very specific filters eventually so that each filter targets a different set of players. That combined with up and down for selecting your party makes it very easy to pinpoint target exactly what you want without taking a long time.

One of the macros I use is literally assist. All it does is switch my target to my target's current target. Why is this important? Speed and control.

I of course have other macros as well, such as a macro for telling my tank that they lost aggro and what they lost aggro on-because for some reason, even in end game content, there are some tanks that don't know when they lost aggro on a mob.

Another tip I have is learn to set up macros that maximize your potential.

For example, I have a macro that places my pet. Eventually, I'd like to modify it so that the same macro will also have my pet 'heel' but that will have to wait since that macro is currently overloaded. In other words, the macro already does so much that I can't add anything else to it.

Once you learn how to set up macros, they will make your life much easier.

Also, when casting a skill from a macro, specifically for things like Benediction or Raise, make sure you call that skill more than once. The reason is that macros don't work with the skill queue. The work around is to have a wait 1 and then call the skill about 3-4 times depending. This way, you can have say...

This way, instead of spamming the button and having "<se.7> <f>, You seem exhausted, why not (sleep) for a while?" appear over and over again....

It appears once and every second for three seconds, it will try to cast repose.

Also, healers and tanks tend to find it very easy to level quickly with daily roulette (you can usually get the adventurer bonus some time each day, when depends on which role).

Best way to force one class up is to play as that class almost exclusively (Make sure you do your other classes for their skills and for class change, such as stoneskin and protect for CNJ, Swiftcast for THM, and Eye for an eye and Virus for ARC.)

Then you just spam fates, hunts, and dungeons for exp. ALWAYS eat food. If you want, take a look at my more personal blog. especially the brief leveling tips part.

Thnx all! It helped me alot! I made some macros, looked up at some macros, tried to use macros from others, didnt know what /mo was, but it wasnt useful for me on the ps4:P

I got one healing bar, with a macro, that when U use cleric stance, it goes to my dps bar.

I got a normal Physick on the healing bar, and im using a macro,
/obey /physick /embrace /wait embrace /wait 3 /sic

Im using Selene, I dunno if this will work in end game, but for now its awesome, I just let selene heal and buff, and one someone if getting nuked I use the macro that command Selene to also heal my target, but when its not needed I just do some Physick alone and Selene heals others. But most of the time I can dps.

Dunno if I got time to dps in end game, and if I can let Selene go Sic, or do I need the heal from Phsy and Embrace and need Selene in obey all the time?!

@ ariaandkia I looked at your profile, and it seems you transmog your gear? It looks nice! How did you do that?

On the ps4 I definitely use macros for my sch. It's very difficult imo to heal without them. I paired all the fairy commands (other than whispering dawn) to moves that tie in with mine and it is a godsend! Physick/Embrace, Adloquium/Embrace, Succor/Fey Covenant, Rouse/Fey Illumination. It works pretty good for me. I put steady, obey, follow/heel(I can't remember for the life of me what that is called. Brain fart >_>), and place on my crossbar to help control my fairy.

As for your whm, you should be fine healing without macros. Since you already have swiftcast, maybeeeeeee a macro for raises? I don't personally use them, but it may be helpful to others. Keep your cure with your cure II. As people have said you will use cure more. Once you hit like 32 I think, it enables your cures to proc (trigger) free cure IIs, which save you a lot of mp. I think the Brayflox dungeon will be your first test to train you for mana management. Since you'll earn it on your scholar, I'd cross class skill Eye for an Eye when you get it for your whm.

cure2 and cure in one macro? O_o

I heal on PS4, both SCH and WHM.
the only macros I can suggest you are

/micon "Raise"
/ac "Swiftcast" <me>
/ac "Raise" <t>

replace Raise with Resurrection, for your SCH&SMN&ACN xD

/Micon "Virus"
/ac "Virus" <t>
/ac "Eye For an Eye" <tt>

apart from these macros, for your comodity, you can macro all your attack spells with the "target of target" version, so you can still attack mobs while keeping the target on the tank...

on the scholar side, you have to lear how to micromanage your fairy.
that means you have to keep her in Obey stance (keep the Obey pet stance in your hotbar, and remember to use it the first time you summon your fairy)

keeping the fairy in obey, makes her cast only Embrace, so you have to use manually her pet actions (Whispering Dawn, and the other Buffs), and also learn how/when and where to positon her during fights, so she can express her full potential.

I've macroed Embrace on my main healing spells (Physick/Adloquium), and I macroed Rouse/Whispering Dawn together, so she can cast a stronger Regen on all the party members...

on the hotbar side, with the WHM you can safely put all your spells in the first hotbar, keeping situational spells on your cross hotbar (L2+R2). I put on my cross hotbar spells like Repose/Fluid Aura/Swiftcast(so I can use it with my Sch/BLM too)/Sancta

with the scholar I have healing spells on the left side of my hotbar, DoT on the right, and I switch to a second Hotbar if I have to use other spells like the Fairy debuffs, Place/Heel to move the fairy as I want...

No, please do use macros. Especially Swiftcast + Raise. I save so much time having multiple things on macro on my WHM.

That's like telling someone to take 5 seconds to do something you can do in 1 second. I just don't see the logic in it. Once you figure out macros, you'll never want to go back.

There's a lot more to macros (especially for healers) than just combining multiple abilities. There's <mo> healing, <t>/<tt> for hostile spells, various uses of <f>, party announcements for CDs, swapping hotbars/actions when you summon one faerie or the other or swap Cleric Stance, etc.

It's possible to do silly things that are bad ideas with FFXIV's macro system. It's also possible, especially for healers, to make vast improvements to play style/comfort with them (if not always performance).

This. I get a lot of flack for it, but I MO heal. It's so much easier to just hover my mouse over a player in party frame to heal them. My SO does tab targeting on friendlies and it sometimes messes him up, even when he click targets them. You lose so much time. It works for him because he does everything on the keyboard, but I come from MMOs where you put everything on the mouse: point, click, heal. I have my CDs on my bar, but other than that, I don't waste my time trying to manually target everyone.

I play from a PS4 so MO macros are a big giant NO for me...

I started using <tt> macros with my SCH for helping me with DPS, but with tanks always swiching targets on large pulls, I botched Bane so many times that I lost count xD
so I went back to the sweet old "target one mob-bio/miasma/bio2-bane-back to heal target"

I can't stand those raise macros. I see them break far too often. Hitting two buttons takes barely longer than hitting one button, and honestly, the chance of a raise not going out and wasting my swiftcast is not worth the miniscule amount of time it saves by using a macro. Macros aren't for everyone, and personally I can't stand them. For sch yes, they have their place because the pet AI is kind of...dumb, but for whm, I don't find them at all necessary.

The biggest thing for me as a healer on a PS4 is making sure I only have two cross bars to switch between. My bars are a tad messy, with dps and healing skills scattered about, but as I have the locations of everything memorized to the point of muscle memory changing anything is very difficult. Just make sure your bars are comfortable, and make sure you know where your most important spells are.

Swiftcast also shouldn't be 100% only for raise either. Keeping people alive is more beneficial than getting them back up quickly and usually a swiftcast Medica or Cure II is all you need to prevent a death, not to mention it lets you do said spell while on the move.

You'd want a separate Swiftcast for that reason and since you are going to have 2 swiftcasts on your bar anyway you might as well separate it from Raise...

Multi-tier action macros (the ones that have, say, /ac Cure <t> and /ac Cure <tt> on consecutive lines) also have a chance to screw up if you mash the button while the GCD is almost up as the GCD may be down for the first line but come up for the second line so the second line would activate instead of the first. This is why some peoples' Blunt Arrow macros fail if they have a party message that gets displayed before Blunt Arrow in their macro.

As a WHM I find macros pointless, and also only use two cross bars on PS3. And speaking of speed.. I don't even think Casting Swiftcast then Raise takes any long than a macro. Especially if you keep hitting Raise until it goes off after you use Swift cast.

I don't really like when people tell others they HAVE to use macros. I have never used a macro before. Ever.

Fyi, you can set up the macro so that if you hit it once, it only casts swiftcast, then you can cast whatever else you want afterwards. You don't have to hit it the second time and use it for raise, there is no reason it needs to take up two slots. I have also never had an issue with my macro going off like so many of you are complaining about. Sounds like user error to me.
