How about it?
Well, Ranger's already taken by bard.
I mean, they're both similar. Just bard plays music while pew pew-ing.
Unless you're talking about a totally different Ranger than i'm thinking about then I have no clue.
There will never ever be a ranger class. Bard is ranged, has no attacking restriction when moving, and to balance this, they need to buff casters and be buffed by drgs to earn their place in a raid.
If by ranger u mean bard but same damage as a dedicated dps? not EVER gonna happen and it should never happen. It would break this game completely lol. Imagine BLMs face when a bard is running circles around them, whilst doing same damage, and caster is rooted to the spot casting?
4 or 5 years from now there will be more classes than you think. at least 2 per job. ranger from archer sounds realistic to me but your going to be waiting at least another 2 years.
Please pay better attention to what you read and refrain from making assumptions. The ranger would be a different class from bard, just as Monk and Dragoon are different yet both still melee DPS. The ranger was already in the game at one point, it was just removed and we were given bard instead. A ranger would not have songs, a ranger would be a hunter of the wilds/forests rather than an entertainer who is good with a bow.
I'll try to make it more easier to understand. When people request ranger, they are looking for a class and is like a bard but with a different 'feel' than that of the bard. They still want a ranged DPS, but they want more of a dedicated DPS than one that also has songs that buff/debuff. They want a hunter, someone skilled in woodland survival and guerrilla tactics. For example, I want my archer character to be a forest sniper rather than a flamboyant fleet of foot singer. Thus I want a Ranger than the Bard we're all stuck with.
Stealth, ambush, possibly pets and traps + lolradar. u realize the incoming shitstorm on the pvp forums?
There has been 0 information about Ranger.
The only classes we know are coming are; Rogue, with job ninja; Tank class, which will be released in 3.0; healer class, also to be released in 3.0; Gun class, which could be the healer class but there is no estimated date for this.
So if they implement this ranger, with the dps of say a blm, and u cant move while attacking at all, you're happy? If so, fine. Ignore everything I said.
My only problem is with a full motion ranged class having the damage of a melee or caster. It would be actually absurd with it's OPness. Idc that u want a bard with different gimmicks, I'm just concerned this game doesn't get ridiculous class imbalance. If se were so cool for bards to have high damage, they would have implemented a non-song mode that would buff bards, something like cleric stance in a sense. But they didn't, they have even nerfed bards damage.
I was thinking, a 'Sniper' alt job could work well. Their play style could revolve around using an Aiming Stance, which locks them in place while active, but boosts attack power at longer ranges and allows use of special skills.
Also. Ranger was never in this game...?
1.0 had bard. Pretty sure there's no ranger.
What game are you playing?
I agree that Ranger could pretty easily be implemented as an alternate job option of Archer, adding some slightly higher potency abilities (nothing crazy, mind you, but maybe something with a 200 potency attack that chains off something else, such as Heavy Shot -> Sidewinder). Could even throw in a positional attack (i.e. Sidewinder = higher potency from target's flank).
It'd shape Ranger into a more single-target oriented ranged dps as opposed to Bard's AoE + songs setup, which would provide enough of a change to make it feel unique.
Whether or not Yoshi will ever do another 1-class into 2-jobs setup is another question entirely, given how SMN and SCH had such issues.
Can I be totally insane and imagine a Ranger job branching off from Archer as a . . . wait for it . . . Tank? :O!!!!!
What would that look like and do any of you think that viable or even interesting?
Just have to figure out the whole "I've got enmity and now the mob wants to come to me" thing...Hmmmm.
Pet is not so far fetched when you consider the ability !Animals from FFV's Ranger class.
The only way I could see them implementing a "Ranger" Class in this game while the Bard also exists is if they were to add the "Beastmaster" class from Final Fantasy XI and instead call it a Ranger (which is feasible as that is how it is done in a few other MMORPG's out there).
Rangers in various other games have stereotypically included pet-based classes. In fact certain games in particular make the pet aspect of the Ranger it's most iconic feature. Also, traditionally (going back to Dungeons and Dragons) both the Ranger, and the Druid had what were termed Animal Companions, though the Druid gained that feature far earlier than the Ranger did. In fact the Beastmaster type class in Final Fantasy dates back practically to Final Fantasy Tactics games to one extent or another, and was definitely present in Final Fantasy XI, even if there was another class that was technically called the Ranger.
Beastmaster was also in FFV along side Ranger. Main ability was !Control. Made gaining Blue Mage spells easier to attain.
FFV? That the one with Faris Scherwiz and Lenna Tycoon? If it is, then I wouldn't be able to comment as I never managed to get further than the opening 10 minutes of that game. That, FFI, FFII, and FFIII (and no I don't mean FFIV and VI here) are the only Final Fantasy Games in the main series I haven't managed to play more or less to completion if not outright beating.
That said, Beastmaster might as well have been what the Blue Mage was called in Final Fantasy VI given the way the classes/characters lore was designed afterall... And that isn't even counting Relm's abilities...
Trust me, you don't want to hear me sing...
on topic:
Being a Bard, i like the idea of a Ranger class.
All those QQing about dps being OP, a suggestion, what about having extra actions, maybe something like sidewinder/blast arrow/namas arrow (ty XI)
with power on actions decreased and/or CD'd increased?
Just my 2c.
Cheers.
Why does everyone want Ranger? Why not Sniper? Ranger for me is trapper class (because of FFTA2) and Sniper is alternate to archer.
But, if you ask me how a pure DPS bow class could work alongside with bard. Cast times.
If you think of it in real life, you can't just take the bow and shoot instantly, you have to pull back the string and aim, which takes time, thus "cast time" is required in my opinion. And if you try to run somewhere while aiming. Good luck with hitting the target, so what that means: if you move, it's cast/aiming cancelled and start again. Because if you just can deal same damage as blm/smn/drg while being able to move freely. That is not balanced.
Why I want it to be sniper and not ranger? Cause aiming for long time (aiming time, the same as cast time, but name changed to fit the "action") sounds kinda like sniping, and in FFTA2 sniper was kinda stealth bow class, which could fit the lore, which is also kept in mind while classes are created to XIV ARR. Or I've understood they are kept in mind.
Also, all the "but in other MMO's rangers have pets" etc etc. You want to play those classes? Why are you here then? Because if we're talking about a FF game, the classes should some what be like the classes in other FF games. I'm not saying there isn't any kind of that or what reminds briefly of pet ranger, but what I have understood is people want a Bow DPS, pet class is not Bow DPS. Sniper would be the best option out of all bow classes in FF games(Not counting Hunter from FFTA2. , because that class is meant for only killing monsters, against hume races they are not good, and because of that aspect, I'd rather see Sniper than Hunter out of those 2 (if I don't know of some even better, do enlighten me, I've not been able to play all FF games)
Note: I'm on phone so something might be typod or something might get left out/cut off in middle of sentence or so, once I get home I'll try to remember to correct things I've stated wrong
People still try to draw comparisons between final fantasy and wow with chocobos?
Would like to see a second job for archer that foregoes some of the utility benefits (songs) for damage-oriented playstyle with a higher-skill roof...something like standing cast times or stationary stances to improve ranged efficiency.
Or at least make the "bard" aspect have a more significant presence. I really feel that it's underplayed with how situational two out of the three songs are, and one of the job actions being rain of death instead of a song.
