I've changed just yesterday from PS3 to PS4. So much luck on Saturday and now that stupid thing on Sunday. Am I cursed or something else :p
Dammit, how much does it cost to buy the game back on ps3?
Welp Sony clearly shows that they can still be hacked/ DDOS
Yes there not 100% protection....... but clearly this proves Sony is using something shitty.......
How often you hear MS Xbox Live being hacked/ DDOS and taken down hours on end?
Also not sure why point out DDOS is not hacking since no where did I say this? Or are you just bad at reading and wanted to open your mouth and act like you know something? I said this proves sony can still be Hacked/ DDOS that does not implies its the same thing it saying that the PSN network can still be hacked and can still be DDOS so easily
You don't. Because Sony customers are too busy playing on their consoles to do something this retarded. Going in the other direction, however...
Don't presume a lack of attempts = a service being more resistant to attacks. Anything can be brought to it's knees if you can find an ip to do it with. Blame the jacktards that don't know how to maintain their machines, and don't realise when their PC has been requisitioned by a botnet.
Doesn't matter. Point is that this is an external problem caused by people who are doing things they shouldn't be doing. This then turned into a bomb threat made on Smedley's (SOE) flight which now has him stuck in Arizona.
It doesn't matter if Sony's "using something bad" for DDOS mitigation, the fact is that it shouldn't be needed. It sucks for us, but that's all groups that do this kind of thing really want, to annoy the hell out of us.
Since the month-long outage during Sony's security breach in 2011, Sony's become the whipping boy for all sorts of stupid shenanigans. DDOS isn't hacking, it's just flooding and the worst part about it is that despite Blizzard, Riot, Grinding Gear Games, and other studios and/or platforms getting hit by this, Sony still gets the biggest amount of attention from all sides.
Because being Japanese, and having a shred of decency, they set a stupid precedent by apologizing (despite being the victims themselves,) after which they gave out free stuff for the inconvenience. The leeches are only making a big noise about the down time this time because they're hoping for the same.
Or because they inane two-year olds who didn't read the prompt, and didn't set a PSN account as primary on their PS4, so can't get into anything in offline mode.
Microsoft is a popular DDoS target, but they have invested billions into cybersecurity. They have far more resources to spend on combating botnetworks (and are actively taking them down) and DDoS attacks than most companies do. Sony's business is nothing like Microsoft's. Sony spending such huge amounts of money against DDoS attacks is irrational.
I'm sure all of these targeted companies are investing as much on DDoS mitigation as is wise for their business to do.
It's more about priority. Microsoft is far more dependant on having their online connection remain up 24/7 than Sony is. For Sony, it's like protecting a gas station's cash register with a central bank level security. If Microsoft's connection went down even for an hour, it's going to cost them millions, not so for Sony.
With DDoS, it can sometimes be the case that instead of being totally down, the servers are still up and trying to function, but you have like a 0.01% chance of getting in through all the clutter the attackers are throwing at it. (Not an exact percentage, obviously, but near enough to make the point.) I suspect that's how a few people seem to see it as back up when most people don't.
Please avoid the temptation to just keep trying over and over. It's going to take enough attempts to frustrate you, anyway; and in the meantime, that just adds even more traffic hitting the servers that are down precisely because of an attack that's hitting with too much traffic. It's time to dig through your game collection for a good single-player game you haven't played in a while, or start a Netflix movie marathon, or find a good book, or whatever. Then every now and then, check Playstation's twitter account, for updates on getting the problems resolved. Once they say it's back up, that's the time to try logging in again.
Canadian PS4 user here and I managed to log in at about 9.45 am EST. Been on all day since I'm afraid of logging off. ;~; I basically spammed the server log in non stop until I managed to get in.
From what I'm reading that is indeed the case. I'm in no way tech savvy but what I've been hearing is that PS4 has additional security measures that requires your system to connect to their servers for. PS3 just checks to see if you can connect to their server and let's you through directly or something. I'm not 100% sure though. So if you're on a PS3 you should've been able to log in hours ago, however, PS4 users are still SoL.
