Can having the an HQ ingredient and a normal ingredient not take up 2 spaces?

It would be so much inventory-friendly and less messy for gatherers and crafters if HQ items could just stack over their normal counterpart and all you had to do was hover over the item to see how many HQ of that certain item you got.

I'm currently leveling botany and cooking and I'm just overwhelmed by all these items.

Just like how when you turn in provisioning items, there is only 1 ingredient to turn in, and when you right click the ingredient it lets you choose whether to turn in HQ stuff or normal stuff. It really should be just 1 stack.

Totally support this. Actually, this game has a very nightmare inventory system, they've got to add some achievement rewards or something that opens up more inventory space, as it stands now its aggravating for gathers/crafters to keep track and manage everything between them and there retainers that store stuff. And yes, splitting NQ and HQ takes up more space and its just annoying. Add it to the list of QoL updates that this game desperately needs!

I have slight OCD and organizing all these mats are brutal... especially when you have to organize the HQ ones too. It's been a year yet they still haven't made a way for HQ items to stack onto regular items. My inventory space is dying. I can't keep it below 90. Retainer 1 full. Retainer 2 full. There are so many mats in this game they could at least make it easier to deal with all them.

Another good thing to implement would be allowing both your retainers to have their item inventory open so you can organize stuff better. Really, small QoL changes like these would make people happier and actually want to level a DoL or a DoH.

I'm loving Botany right now, I'm just not loving all this clutter.

Eh? You're keeping too many things then. Even back when we had 80 slots, and only one retainer, also with 80 slots AND items had 3 HQ versions, ie +1/+2/+3, we found ways to not hoarde. I craft anything I want/need myself. I gather anything I need, myself(unless i'm lazy and it's cheap on the boards). Even before I had 4 retainers I had no issue with inventory.

I'm just stating the obvious they did this because of the option of get two extra retainers which you have to pay monthly for as well. Thankfully the price isn't to steep, but it would be nice if they could do something like that. Another game I played, they had a system where you crafting materials each had it's own space separate from the bank or your own inventory. The way it was set up is that you would get gather the item and that item would be put into player's inventory and from inventory you had the option to send all crafting materials in your inventory to your crafting mat's space.

Why do you need HQ and NQ?

For everything but star mats, I use NQ since I can HQ anyway. For the star mats...I sell off any NQs I accidentally make.

I don't get how two retainers and yourself aren't enough space. Even if you have a gear set for every class/Job there's going to be some overlap between the DDs, especially with accessories. Gathering and crafting classes can often share accessories between them as well. And materials... once you get late in the game all those low level materials are only really useful for making glamour prisms. Everything else has so little demand. So, really, what are you hoarding?

I say all this cause I have one retainer whose only holding unique items so I can have three of them between myself and my retainers (like unopened treasure maps) and the other retainer is just hold those things that I have sentimental attachment to but can't store in the armoire.

I wouldn't mind if we got an entirely new inventory section just for mats to be honest.

The mats themselves. There are exactly 44 fishing tackle, 136 ingredients for cooking, 276 seafood, 196 stone, etc. Double that due to high quality. 450 slots altogether over 2 retainers and a player, and it's still not enough room for all of it. Most TC's asking for is a quality of life change to make it a little easier. Considering I'm currently leveling all the crafting and gathering classes, I personally see where she's coming from. Mats mats everywhere, and not a place to put them.

But why would you hold all of those, especially since some of them are so easy to get (buy em from a vendor)? As a level 50 everything I have less inventory space issues than I do Armoury Chest space issues, really. I don't even have a third or fourth retainer, and one of my retainers pretty much just holds green/blue gear and event stuff that I've never bothered to stick in the Armoire.

I learned a while ago... vendor sell or junk anything that is worth 1-10gil on the MBs sell stuff you can't really use yet but gan gather later. The rest look at what you are actually crafting and only hold what you need.

Yeh. Some things are so worthless they arent worth the time to even sell, so just toss em.

I'm only storing lancer gear on my 2nd inventory and everything is still full. Try leveling botany and culinarion and you'll see the clutter.

Also I'm pretty sure they made this so we'd be forced to pay more money for extra retainers. Oh well.

I do have both leveled (only need FSH and WAR so all my classes will be lv50, and im lazy =P) and still I have one retainer for equips/materia and the other only for crafting materials and they aren't full. I myself carry around only a few materials also (mainly raptor leather, electrum ore/ingot and some other stuff).

So like Gilraen, I don't get it how you can't let go of that normal copper ore when you can easily buy from vendors or even just equip a lv1 miner and go dig them. Just save the materials that are hard to get and dump everything else.

Anyone who thinks inventory is at all an issue in this game must never have played FFXI, especially more than a few years back.

Then we would still have +1,+2 and +3 as HQ items and 50 different items to repair our gear. And each tier materias in 3 different versions.

I have all crafters and gatherers at 50 and 2 retainers - 1 retainer has almost full inventory, another is barely half full and my own inventory is almost full just because I like fireworks and bought tons of "pretty thingies".
All the low level materials are sold in big cities, beast tribes, fc house vendors and fc housing residental areas - there is barely any need to buy something in market place or even go gather unless you start mass crafting 1, 2, 3 star recipes. Basically learn to organise your stuff.
Now with desynth you also get additional items for free that you can just sell or use in your own crafts - more gil, even less gathering.

My Solution: Gbye NQ when I have HQ of the same item. Works like a charm.

Easing up on inventory space is just going to make them lose money. So not going to happen.

And I like the amount of players defending this - You are not thinking into the future, look at the whole picture. Don't forget items don't disappear from the game instead they are and will be added to the game in every patch and every updates and whenever a new content or feature is added. Let's talk in a few expansions when we have double the classes and jobs :D

While I only took culinarian to 37 for Steady Hand II, I have Botany to 50 and I don't have anywhere near the clutter you allude to. I also have Carpenter to 50 and am working Leatherworker to 50 at the moment. Still no massive clutter like was calculated out previously.

Ah, now there is a game where these kind of arguments ARE valid. I did play in said time, even before the added space from having a token or rank in Salaheem's Sentinels (that was the name, right?). You wanted more space, had to deal with the goblins of Jeuno. Housing space, load up furniture but not too much furniture or you'd just be replacing what space you're creating with furniture clutter (guilty as charged, my house looks like a house). Compared to that, I've got space for days in XIV.

I like the idea, and I feel ya. This game is a royal pain when it comes to inventory (and then they want you to pay for more space ... aholes). So much freakin junk! Im actually leveling BOT, CUL, and FSH at the same time since it doesnt seem to actually rely on other DoH jobs to level up so its a good start. After filling up my inventory TWICE by level 10 with mostly junk I decided to just scrap everything that wasnt needed for my current levelquests and focus on those items. Ill worry about completing the log AFTER Ive leveled if at all. Still somewhat of a headache I guess, but much less so. Just write down what you need, get a stack of each, craft a bunch of them, turn them all in, then repeat on the next levequest bracket. If you need to collect other items to level up try to focus on 1 item so youll have a lot of them to sell (or get crystals, you can never have too many).

Saving up for hand-me-downs in this game isnt very user friendly. I used to save up a lot of items, both gear and crafting mats, because "I might need them later" for X class/job, but that gives you inventory problems very very quickly.
