Too far from PT leader = no claim =NO SP

Can this be reworked?

What is the reason behind this mechanic? This is an example thats happened to me before.

I join a PT to do the 4 man dungeon. we are waiting for a 3rd and 4th member. I go out side and try to kill a few mobs. Too bad The PT leader isn't in the area so my hands are tied from doing anything. I just have to sit and /wait.

It was the most boring 1hr 30 min I've had in this game yet!

This happened to me and wife before, wife crafting in town, I'm waiting for her outside to do guild leve so i change class and start hitting mobs and no exp since wife is inside town. Could simply leave party and solo and works if its within friends and stuff but if you're waiting for a party with strangers and waiting for a while like old school FFXI days then should let us exp while we wait for PT to fully form, ready to go.

Its just such a weird design. I'm sure it has something to do with how the servers are set up. Or a remnant of the alpha-beta battle system where the more people the more SP per hit you acquired. But by all means If i kill something I should get credit for it regardless of where my PT leader is located. That goes for all PT members, if you are within range of the kill you should get credit. PERIOD!

It likely ties into SEs bizzare stance against fighting multiple monsters at one time.

We're allowed to do them within the bounds of dungeons and leves, but god forbid you try to tackle more than one monster outside that!

My guess is that this falls under "lesson learned" from 11, situations in which one ore two people would hold NMs that they could not possible beat, but COULD hold them until other people showed up. In this manner, LS's could split up, go for multiple claims, and then just congregate on whatever they happened to claim.

Whether or not FFXI influenced this decision depends on whether or not you still get items from those mobs. You'd never kill NMs in FFXI for exp, after all.

It is a system tied to the alpha early beta time frame. I just for the life of me don't remember what it
was for. All that info is long gone also. NDA kept us from re-posting it else where and the beta forums
have long since been deleted.

+1 for reworking this terribleness.

I just want full access to benefits of playing the game despite where other PT members are located.

The whole claiming system needs to be done away with and rethought out completely imo. 2 'encounters' and if you aoe you lose sp... makes sense!!!!

One of the player's polls contained a question on the issue of claiming. Does anyone remember what it was?
