the latter. the better the gear post 50 the better the change the retainer will find rarer loot.
I hate this because my retainers were already very well equipped, with my DoM retainers being between iLvl80 and 90 and DoL being between gathering 383 and 401. My only options now to improve their gear are to either spend my soldiery tomes on weathered gear for my DoM retainers, spend my myth tomes to obtain crafting materials (which really isn't an option for me because I'm a little behind everyone else and just started getting my animus books), or spend my gil to buy crafting mats or already crafted items from the MB. I am simply at a loss as to what to do for my DoL retainers now. I think my only option for my DoL retainers is to upgrade to the Supra primary weapons. Any ideas?
It sounds like they are already equipped to the max Alleviator. I don't think you need to worry about even better equipment.
If you can send them on the highest 18 hour venture, they are well enough equipped. Can't tell if if the cap is below because I was capped before they implemented it. But all of them brought up a message after their next quick exploration that they are good enough for rare items. The first one even brought up a new help section entry.
I think they broke ventures with last patch...my lvl 50 botanist brings back mostly fish .. go figure. Never did that before 2.35. I hate that they expect us to meld retainers gear now -_- . Basically turned retainer ventures into a gil sink.
Thanks for the replies! I thought they said at one point recently that they were going to be easing up the requirements for the higher level ventures, but I guess either I misunderstood or their idea of easing things up and my idea of easing things up are two totally different things! I'll keep sending them out. Hopefully they'll start bringing me back something other than fish or tier 1 and 2 materia again.
They kinda eased conditions for the DOL. They added a new 18 hour venture and decreased the Gathering Points you needed for the formerly highest. But in the end, if you wanna send them to the highest venture, you still need 383 Gathering.
Just recently started doing quick ventures again due to overwhelming venture coins I got from Ixal dailies. But I only got junk so far. I'm still wondering what is the best properly geared to raise chances to get rare stuff. Right now my archer has i80+ and my miner has 385 gathering.
I think they changed the "requirement" for better quick venture loot because a retainer with bare minimum gear was coming back with crafting tables worth millions of gil at the same rate as retainers with i80+ gear.
can anyone actually confirms what's best gear to get much better loot from quick ventures? It sounds very vague.
If you can send your retainers to the hightest available 18 hour venture, they are equipped well enough. Sadly I can't tell you if that starts already below the highest one since mine were all ready for the highest ones.
You will notice it, after the 1st quick exploration you do with one of your retainers, you will see a text when he returned that he is good enough to bring back the good stuff. I assume if he is not good enough, there will be a negative text.
Oh and after your first retainer returns and is actually good enough, there is even a new help text popping up.
My mrd retainer thinks coeurl meat is as rare as platinum. My botanist and miner retainers, who can both go on the XIV ventures, bring me back nothing but thavnarian mistletoe and darksteel ore respectively. My fisher isn't quite capped out yet but he has a giant catfish fetish. Good thing they generally sell decently :3
^^ same for most others I guess lol. I was also dissapointed by the "variety" of maximally 2 diferent items or a special craft item or minion if you send them to an 18 hour venture. You basically have a choice between FOUR items which is kind of a Joke seeing how many Level 50 items there are for BOT and MINER and FSH or combat classes.
I think by the time I'm asking this, I've already got that new help text popped, hence me asking best properly geared in 1st place... ^^;
And if you check my other previous post, I already said this and quoted again:
I really... REALLY wish you have read previous post before making that comment, especially since this thread has 2 pages only... -_-
Nope, early in the morning I do not re-read entire threads to answer a single question I see. I saw page 1 but couldn't remember that you were past this already. To Hell with me that I dare to answer to a question without beeing able to remember the entire history from the question asker!
Jokes aside, maybe my other thread here tells you something: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...anges-anything
Maxing your retainers seems not worth doing it as far as my experiences went so far. After almost max melding them (with 2.0 accesoires and Forager items), I see no difference, not on 18 hour ventures, not on quick ventures, not on single items where I thought maybe more HQ items will be brought back.
So at this stage I have no clue what is needed to improve their findings because I have yet to see a difference. I can only tell you that there was so far no difference from just meeting the requirements for the highest 18 hours venture to overachieveing these requirements.
At ilvl 80 for disciples of war or magic you don't get the message that the retainer could have better gear. (I don't know for disciples of the land.)
I get a lot of a few gil worth items, sometimes better things worth a few or several thousands of gil, and rarely very valuable items like ancient lumber or garuda's feather.
