Dunno, Hyperion is always crowded.
Not really sure I know Sargantanas at times I get a que to to world full on occasion like yesterday at 8 am cst
I've been feeling the exact opposite. There are tons of new people on Balmung these days, and low level roulette and even high level constantly lands me in runs with first timers (first classes, not alts or alt characters).
Behemoth seems just right. Popular, but not over crowded.
I actually feel there's way too many people on Behemoth.
Gilgamesh is decent now...amazingly.
Shiva has new char lock almost a year
Well, ARR wasnt out two years ago so...
Hyperion is always fairly busy. Seems the legacy servers are the most populated since not only does it have old players from 1.0, their friends come to those servers after word of mouth gets about
Wait till rogue comes out then you'll start seeing life where you want it to be at...
Hyperion always seems well packed...
Haven't had any "Server is Full" que yet.
Is this another "I think this game is dying even though it clearly isn't" thread?
*looks at OP's post history*
Oh gosh...it is one of those threads...I fell for it... T_T
Leviathan's got a ton of people on it. Just about anywhere you go you'll always find people scampering around doing things. A pretty steady stream of new players, too.
Join the hunt crowd, then you'll start to get sick of the amount of people playing ;)
Well, considering that this game wasn't live two years ago...
Frequently world servers such as Leviathan, Behemoth, any of the Legacy servers don't accept new characters. Sometimes there are instances where only 3-4 servers accepting new characters. The servers are pretty active, even the new ones (Jenova and Zalera) are pretty active.
It probably is one of those threads.
Well, yesterday Cactuar was full:

Gilgamesh was full as well around 9pm est. I was the 6th person in the queue.
As someone who is also on the same server as OP, I know what he means about it seeming kinda dead. Goblin is a low populated server. We get the most people on during the evenings and not many people on after about 1am. Which personally I am fine with. There is always something for me to do.
Balmung is also always full. It is the highest population NA server as well :)
Top 10 NA servers, in order of (roughly estimated) ACTIVE population:
Exodus 103201
Famfrit 102572
Brynhildr 102009
Lamia 100218
Faerie 97229
Gilgamesh 93500
Behemoth 93070
Siren 92986
Leviathan 91672
Malboro 88096
What? Two years? Game is about to be 1......
Anyway, FFXIV seems to surprisingly be well populated and active. I mean I dont know what the actual numbers are (2 million supposedly) BUT I see a lot of open world activity in this game after coming back recently. Where a lot of other MMOs are ghost towns anywhere outside of big cities, Im always seeing other players while im out questing. Ive met quite a few obviously new players in DF as well so it still seems to be getting new players. And im on Jenova, one of the newer, lower populated servers (forum avatar is old main).
Two years ago Earth time was the calamity. I don't know what the server population was like then.
Lately I bet everyone is in at the Ixal area in Coerthas. I noticed Mor Dhona was pretty spare last night.
Well, its MUCH higher than it was two years ago and a year ago was the launch of the game. It also depends on what server you are on. Just wait till the next Letter from the Producer Live where they will release some statistics. Then we can discuss.
A lot of the people from the hard core FCs went to Wildstar, mostly for the PVP aspect. Hopefully they will come back, time will tell.
Ultros is hit and miss, when I play at night it totally dead, but during the evening its packed. Sometimes I see people everywhere and its hard to even fate grind cause there too many people, but when night time falls its just totally dead, no middle ground. Would be nice to have a middle ground server but oh well, I wanted to join Balmung for the RP but it was locked out. Shucks
Diabolos is pretty busy as well.
Some servers have higher pop than others. It's a matter of luck of the draw.
That said, just because your server's pop is low is not a omg gaem is dying (nor are server merges).
But, the game's a year old, and at this point, people log in for new stuff, burn out, then take a break until new stuff releases. It's the circle of game.
First of all, two years ago not a soul was playing this game. Second, one year ago today no one was either, but we had played beta and were eagerly anticipating early access in 3 days. If you are referring to launch, of course the servers aren't as busy. That's normal for any MMO. But I'm glad for that. Do you remember how frustrating it was trying to log in back then?
All that aside, I still get a log in queue every once in a while on Balmung, especially after patches. My queue times are still instant as WHM, and there's still people everywhere. As many as day one of the server? No. But that's a good thing. The population definitely isn't low by any means.
Balmung has so many players it takes me 5 trys to get in :P
The game is actually well over one year old. The one year anniversary is to commemorate the rebuilding and restructuring of the game. FFXIV originally launched in 2010, so technically the game is 4 years old. I'm assuming the OP was comparing server population now to what it was then during the 1.0 storyline.
Also for info about world populations, there's http://xivsoul.com/
Currently Exodus has the largest NA population, while Jenova is the lowest.
The site doesn't track players logged in though, only total population of characters made on it. And yes, the most populated server will change due to SE's lockout system (where they restrict which servers you can make new characters on to help balance the game population). From my experience (used to have a character on Balmung), Balmung just contains a more active playerbase than most other worlds. My guess is that its due to the unusually high role-playing community there. While non-RPers on other worlds tend to get less active overtime as they wait for new content to blitz (rinse and repeaters), RPers tend to stay active and create their own content, thus giving the world a more lively community.
I will say my sever has not that big of a population but I think I like it that way
I have seen tons of leafs next to peoples names on Leviathan for the past several weeks since the recruit friend thing started, I haven't noticed a drop in population at all, yeah, people come and go, but that's mmo's for you. 20 people left, 40 came in, 15 will stay, 10 of the old 20 will return at some point.... etc etc.
