Aetherial manipulation, Elusive jump & Repelling shot

Does anyone else feel like the mechanics of these spells are very clunky? I remember playing a mage in World of Warcraft and Blink was AMAZING.

I almost feel like Aetherial manipulation doesn't update your position as fast as running and consequently makes it a bad choice for escape telegraphs. Same with Elusive jump.

I haven't played around with Repelling shot much but I see lots of bards use it to escape telegraphs so maybe it's a bit more reliable.

The one legit use I've made of Aetherial manipulation is climbing back up Leviathan EX during slide making it easier and quicker to get into position. I feel like in a game with so many telegraphs, these abilities should be more widely used.

You don't use Aetherial manipulation to dodge attacks you use it to reposition so you don't have to spend as much time moving, something that is detrimental to BLM dps.

You should feel that way, because that's how it works. These abilities don't update your position until you reach the destination. You can appear to be halway, but your position used for AoE checks is still where you executed the ability, until you reach the destination.

You use Elusive Jump, if an AoE hits the area you used the jump from while you are still mid-air, it registers as a hit.

Repelling Shot is effectively Disengage. It simply fires you backwards in a straight line from what ever you are attacking. Aetherial Manipulation relies on the position of the other player you are targeting in relation to where you are standing. The client desync issue that appears with the tiniest bit of high latency works against it here - you're effectively targeting someone who may or may not actually be where they appear on your screen. As with everything that is wrong with FFXIV:RR, the netcode is the biggest culprit of things not working quite like they should. I've not used Elusive Jump yet, so I can't comment on it.

Also: blink was amazing except when it wasn't, I remember well the number of times I blinked and went nowhere due to a piece of negligible scenery being in the way ;)

Repelling Shots is amazing to dodge AOE. Just ask any BRD who can do it well in Titan EX. :D

I'll agree WoW had better /feeling/ of movement from abilities, would like to see this improve ~~

Repelling Shot sucks so much because you have to wait for a second when you land before you can move. I wish movement was a lot more smooth in this game, because right now its hella clunky and old feeling.

Aetherial Manipulation has always bummed me out a little, but I still use it frequently. :(

No. I agree. It's funny as hell. I've managed to pull that off myself once or twice.. =P

I am greatly amused by the lack of path-checking for displacement abilities: they literally only check initial and final destination as being valid targets, which is odd because the animation still abides by legality.

Try it out yourself; my favorite place is the Gridanian markets. You can stand by the Retainer Vocate, which has a desk with a little U-bump in it from the wall. Face away from her, and use Elusive Jump. Your DRG will jump in place, seemingly stopped by the desk, until you land.... in the doorway 20 yalms away?

Incidentally, this trick is an easy way to prove to yourself and others how the game processes your location: there are no intermediary points that it checks for the purpose of AOEs; either you're at your initial location or you're at the final one, when the jump completes.
