It seems like this this game might even appeal to an "older" gaming crowd....thoughts?
Oh it most certainly does! I have played with many gamers 40+ here. =)
Btw - I'm 31 and plan to be gamer for many, many, many years to come!
My buddy is 38 and I'm 34...feels old enough when it comes to seeing the generation gap
Me and my 30 something friends don't anymore.
It seemed like it would appeal to an older audience... but then it turned into a pointless grind/no good quests/iLevel/team jump rope humping mess. It's pretty, but that's not enough... we like the quests/lore aspect of an mmorpg. Otherwise we would be playing CoD or another multi-player action title.
Lots of mmo, not much rpg.
Yes.
/10char lol
Yes. I even have the grey hair and beard to prove it :)
I sometimes wonder if there will be a lot of 80 year old veteran mmo gamers 40-50 years from now. lol
I am 47, does that count? :D
I'm 37, so close
One guy in our FC is in his 60's? We call him gramps lol.
Ooh so many silver foxes in game :D awesome!
The oldest in my group are in their mid 30s only.
I'm 45. This is my second MMO, the first being FFXI.
39 here....will be 40 in a few months.
The leader of my FC is 43 years old with a wife and two kids and a district manager job at his company. Kinda refreshing to know that even older gamers can appreciate FFXIV. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Over 50 :) here
Pretty neat seeing my older people on here.
I feel young when peoples say they played XI...
And I think I was 9 when it was released, I'm like dang...
oldies! :o
well over 40 here, been playing pc games since my commodore 64 days.btw Get off my lawn!!!
My mom is probably one of the oldest players at 73 and is enjoying the game.
My Dad and his wife play... they have all Battle classes 50, so not the casual. They are 63yo and 56yo
I know there are definitely many "older" gamers in Eorzea...I play/have played with many of them. I'm pretty sure I'm the youngest person in my static too. I usually end up chatting with many other college-aged people from LS because we have more in common.
I am 45 and I remind my static each time about it when I am derping in T7. :p I started gaming when I was 12 (on a Commodore VC20) and still love it. Of course not that much time for it as I used to have but still more than a hobby. I will probably still play Games when I am 70 years old lol.
I turned 40 this year, been gaming pretty much as long as I can remember. Started on Atari 2600 and Coleco Vision, etc. I like ARR but I'm dying for some more danger, depth, and diversity to be added.
I'll be 38 in a few months. Been playing since Atari and colecovision... Donkey Kong JR. FTW
42 here and our FC members are similar in age. Nice to see lots of others reporting in!
damn, and here I thought I was old (31 here).
42 and still kickin : P
Just starting 30 here, still young it seem compared with the seniors
My daughter and I play this game, most of you have probably met her on the forums or in-game.
I'm sure that there are a ton of older gamers out there. I'm pushing 40, 38. Our generation pretty much started video gaming, with the Commodore, Atari, Coleco Vision. So it would stand that we would still play. I see it as a way to unwind at the end of the day, pass some down time. What else am I going to do, watch the same crap on TV everyday? All these dumb show they come out wit the days, I feel mu IQ drop just watching the commercials for them. People I deal with are like "don't you think your too old for video games", or "Isn't it time to stop with the video games"? Why? What do you do when you go home at the end of the day? Watch re-runs of Seinfeld or Raymond for the 100th time? You can actually see them thinking about it for or minute, and it usually shuts them up. I'll be gaming till the day I die.
Am 48 and my wife 42. FFXIV is our first mmorpg.
36 here...my FC has several members 35+.
I'd pay extra for a 30+ server.
I plan to play until arthritis deforms my hands.
41 here glad to see all the old school gamers of my generation checking in. :-)
I'm 32 and been playing since the very first NES came out! Even remember holding it in my small arms after my dad bought it for me and carried it to the car instead of leaving it in the shopping cart. lol :D
I am 41 and this is my second MMO. FFXI was my first and I played for over 4 years.
Most definitely older folks play FFXIV!
In 1.0 I partied with a man who was 76 lol. I think he was a PGL, not bad either! :D
Yep. I'm 39, grew up with video games. I'm not the oldest in my FC by far! xD We had a new member post that they were an older gamer at 24. We just kinda fufufufufu and smiled. :D I've got lots of families who play either together or consecutively (1 account). I think the youngest in my FC is 15... it's my kid. XDDDD
I've just noticed that 'older gamers' are usually more chill about things, which is nice.
Mind you... we've got a good group of under 25s. All awesome people. :D
Me and GF in the same boat ^^
I wont tell her age as it would be inappropriate for a lady. As for me, 41 and still kicking!
Like many others, started very young and got addicted to Pong. Then came real table tennis fun in high school, and I still beat the crap of friends as of last weekends BBQ party lol (that might be why dodging is easier ;) )
I've played so many Korean MMORPGs that I lost count. ( I always preferred eastern character style, versus western WoW style. Oh! I played WoW for about 10 mins after I created my character, and it was over from there ^^ )
Had to switch from playing a female character (Darkwitch in all the games I could, when it wasn't 'stolen' by a quicker one ;) ) to a male one.
Not too bad, but hey adaptation is key in life ^^
Wishing you all old farts happy gaming, and to the younger masses: please be gentle with us, or we'll show you we can kick your ass!
No, Vote 'Kick' isn't the option lol
Have fun guys and gals!
N.B. My Dad's 68 and still plays Diablo 3 and Age of reckoning lol
Just turned 30 about 4 months ago. FF2 on SNES (FFIV) was the first game I ever remember playing and have followed the Final Fantasy series ever since. I think I was only like 7-8 years old, but I remember just being awe-struck with the amount of variation a game's story could take. The loss of characters (Edward, Yang, Palom/Porom etc.), the betrayal (Kain), the overcoming of past demons (Cecil -> Paladin), fighting inside of robots (Tower of Babel), secret underground civilizations, watching characters mature (Rydia)......finding out the boss is your brother and going to the moon on a ship made from a whale....
FFIV captivated me as a very young gamer and has had me gaming ever since :D I will most likely be playing games until I no longer can.
