Thought that was an April fool's joke.
I laughed so hard when I read that--I couldn't believe that they actually referenced last year's April Fool's joke, haha!
I want Viangaa to be the new race so bad! ><
Viangaa? What the heck is that? Like a Viera hooking up with a Bangaa?
The sentence "confirming" their existence is grammatically suspect. Viangaa have years?
Am I the only one who misreads the word "viangaa" every time it appears? You know what I mean? 0_0
I really hope we don't get a race with an ugly face like that.
Let's say for example Yugiri IS a Viangaa (it'd make sense with the cultural style of the summer event and of what little we know about Doma), just judging by her facial structure alone, she doesn't have the protruding snout Bangaa possess. I'm honestly thinking they're just using the name from the joke rather then the concept design
Was a joke that got thrown in for laughs, much like horsebirds joke and the now mroe recent Acheron/Phlegethon joke.
I would play a Viangaa.
Note viangaa is lowercased, indicating it is not a proper noun.
In the context, it almost seems like it is a measurement of time, kind of like in Farscape:
arns = hours
cycles = days
For those interested, here is the original article confirming the new playable race, the Viangaa, http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/000029.html.
Among the race's more notable qualities, due to their smell, they are unable to ride mounts and will aggro all enemies in the field, store prices are 10% lower for them, and speaking to other races is forbidden. Use of the chat window will summon a Viangaa assassin to stalk the player.
I must admit, I read the text of the seasonal quest, but I missed the reference to the Viangaa. Nice catch.
;) I know, I was just going along with the joke. Even if Fernehalwes didn't end it with:
(PS: For those of you who didn't make it to "package size" without realizing something was slightly fishy, THIS JUST IN: It was all an April Fool's joke!)

I would have still thought something was seriously wrong. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing a Viangaa assassin stalk individuals who misuse the chat channels, whether they themselves were Viangaas or not.
Yep, this was a fun little reference. Had me smiling until I got back into Limsa and did the final quest ... :(
