For short term, can the number of dps per party be increased?

I understand that making the combat system into something that makes tanks and healers more interesting to play will not happen anytime soon, so in the meantime can the number of spots for dps roles in a party be increased to compensate? At the moment, I'm finding myself out of a static group because I wanted to play something different, but none of the dps want to switch roles.

Edit: To clarify, I'm referring to switching roles after something like 6 months of play when a new patch that raises the item level comes out, or if the group is returning from hiatus and thus would not lose anything by switching things up.

1)You know that they won't any time soon, and if they ever did, it would not be for "short term"
2)A static is called a static for a reason, aka not people jumping to wtfever role they feel like playing each week redrawing loot tables and needing to learn a different role's mechanics

I played as healer from 2.0 to the first week of 2.2. That was over six months. That is not jumping roles. Also, you are missing the point.

It's a conflict of interest.

The whole point of a static is to take your "main" job into them. Once everyone's gotten their drops then the option of "switching" becomes open. Since you wanting to do something ends up with a conflict of the upgrades you and the other person has gotten come into question. Even if it's a +6 month period.

Yet if you're really want to "switch it up" then you're gonna have to wait for the lock outs to be removed and that's simply only gonna happen when it gets added to the DF since some statics don't enjoy doing old content.

Again, this is missing the point of my post entirely. There are a ton more people wanting to play DPS than tanks or healers. As a result, anyone playing tanks and healers are pretty much perma-locked into those roles. Meanwhile, dps can switch to different dps jobs during interim patches with far less effort and fuss.

You can't be seriously suggesting you would play the exact same thing practically forever. I mean, we aren't talking about someone switching up on a short term basis here. We're talking six months, which is often the lifetime of many static teams.

You could always you know, just solo tank all of coil.
None of the turns really require a second tank.

He's a tank, he wants to try a DPS role, his static already has 4 DPS and none of them wants to switch to tank, so (correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what it looks like..) he wants SE to change the whole party system just to accommodate to his situation (?)

You should read the latest live letter, Yoshida answered questions regarding the 1 tank, 2 healers, 5 dps party makeup

Actually I understand your point and the issue isn't that.

The issue is a conflict of interest. The two tanks are gonna get geared in the long run since obviously the ones tanking are gonna have priority.

If you want a DPS or Healer to tank in your place to play as another role 1 you're going to have to gear them and 2 you're gonna have to show them how to tank. If you want that to happen.

If it's a static group... doesn't this make it more of a player driven issue than a systemic issue? I mean... you are talking a preformed party amongst friends, aren't you?


I get that the newest content may be locked with the roles and such, but they've been going back after the fact and removing that rigid restriction once it is no longer the latest thing. So I would expect this may only be an issue with the latest and greatest addition to the game, in which case you go with your top jobs to get all the new shinies and then you become open to switching roles to gear up other jobs and give someone else in your group a shot at gearing up something else as well. All this could and should be managed amongst your friends.

Now... if you're PUG'ing runs, that could be a different story. But, I get the impression the OP is doing it as a static... which to me reads as a preformed group?

Also, the DPS to tank and healer ratio problem isn't an interpersonal issue. You should well know that a game is something to be enjoyed, and forcing people into playing stuff they don't want makes no sense. The problem isn't the social situation, but what is causing the social situation to occur in the first place.

You are basically inferring that it's my fault for not wanting to tank anymore, which is total and complete nonsense considering the larger issues at hand. In the process, you are missing the entire point.

Go dps and find a new static, the problem is you not the game.

Just because new content is released doesn't mean that old content is moot. Accessibility increases with ease, only. Once Third Binding Coil of Bahamut is release it wont magically mean that everyone has downed Second Coil of Bahamut. Even now there's people doing T1-T5.

It may be "moot" to you and those that have cleared it enough to gear all their jobs. Yet that doesn't mean that in general the content is no longer relevant.

Thus again, if you want to do something about your situation it will only lead to a conflict of interest unless you can work something out with your static.

Now if you no longer want to Tank and your static doesn't want to work something out with you, then you know what your options are.

Retune the whole game please to my whimsical needs.

This, basically, mate.

It's not one of those things where you can shout, "I don't like this because of scenario X." And results will just happen.
Tank is fun to some people. Healing is all some others want to do.
DPS is what about 90% of players want to do, because they like seeing big numbers.
It will forever and ever be an eternal issue.

Making parties consist of 9 people would break content.
Making all parties only have 1 tank would exclude people who main tanks.
