Is it possible to collect both of the NEW male and female yukatas? I know I can buy the older ones from the vendor but what about the ones received while doing the quests?

Not new. But old yes. Quest ones are determined by the gender of your character, similar to the lightning rewards. Maybe it will be possible to exchange if you change your mind about being a buff male roe.
If the quest is buying the items from a vendor with tokens you gather doing the quest you can. But if the items are a straight reward from the NPC then no you can't
Once you've completed the event (and the event ends) all of the rewards should be added to the salvager, same as all the other seasonal event items or will be available to exchange should you change sex via fantasia at some point
Here's hoping they do take that into account lol. I know some people enjoy flip flopping race/gender.
Would more be for my femme fetale roe retainers :)
If I remember right, you can use the Calamity Salvager already to swap things like the Cavalier swimsuits if you switch gender. So they'll probably implement something similar down the road.
Does anyone know how you get the peach blossom or cherry blossom earrings? They would be perfect to go with these new vanity pieces.
The Peach Blossom Earrings are sold by a vendor that only appears during the Little Ladies' Day festivities, which is set to occur in late February / early March. Regrettably, you will likely have to wait until next year to acquire them unless you have already bought them, then you can get another pair from the Calamity Salvager.

AFAIK, the Cherry Blossom Earrings do not yet exist.
Boooo
Well, thank you for the info. Looks like I have 6 more months to wait.
I want Dalamud Horn. please make it available again.
I like to buy stuff to put in the fc chest for my daughter to find with her toon, she's 5 so finding a new baby fawn or little winged pet maked her day.
If they decided to release the cherry blossom earrings, it'll be in march-april after the Little Ladies Day festival.
FYI a lot of these events (aside from the 1-year anniversary and game crossover events) are based on Japanese holidays or the Japanese versions of common holidays
Little Ladies Day is Hinamatsuri, basically "girls' day." It's celebrated with dolls and the like. There's a few traditions involved in the holiday, but it can be quite similar to the FFXIV version.
Moonfire Faire is Obon, which sounds very similar to the word "bomb," thus the obsession with bombs the game has in relation to the festival, and also why the Bomb Dance isn't exactly "explosive." It's based on the actual bon dance performed during Obon festivals. Some puns just get lost in translation.
