"Manthra"
Robert Downey Jr said it best...
"I'm The Dude Playing the Dude Disguised as Another Dude"
It's an MMO, let people be whoever they want to be.
Yeah, you're a real winner if you're hitting on characters in a game.
/sarcasm
Hey baby you're looking so fine in that Buccaneer's Shirt. Want to come get a drink with me at Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern? Maybe later on I can take you back to my Mog House an-- oh wait...
Don't worry, once male Miqo'te are released, you won't be able to tell anything apart anymore.
While this thread was just asking for it, I will have to disagree with the above statement.
Some people are very unskilled in face to face communication via traditional dating methods. When this happens they turn to other means to find someone that they can share a bond with. What's wrong with sharing that bond over something you do frequently, such as playing a game. How is that different than meeting someone at say, local Volleyball Leagues?
Myself, I am not sure if I could do it. I project an image of a person through their character based on how they might interact via voicechat or in-game. If I met that person, I would then have to re-shape that image, also forming a new opinion. While I could certainly see myself forming a bond through an online relationship, by no means could it be more than a friendship. There is no way the real encounter could match the image I have previously associated with that person. I do like to think I can understand it though, and respect those who manage to pull it off.
Eunys, Dranio, you two just look close minded. Perhaps you need to get out more, maybe do some traveling.
manthras attract men cause they know what they like >_>
I'm a male, and as soon as someone tries to hit on me, I tell them "dude really"?
Close minded? Ha, that's rich. Yeah sorry for thinking people should be able to escape from burdens of life through a game and not worry about teenage horndogs wanting to try and hook up with your pixels. I get out enough just fine note little time to even play this game nice multiple 50's there get out much?
I'm really curious to see how much the female miqo'te population shrinks once the male miqos are available. At the moment, it seems like every 3 out of 5 characters I see in game are miqo'te.
This thread made me laugh :)
I knew a guy (lets call him Mr. X) in FFXI who was hitting on this girl which was really a guy and myself and other guys knew that... just for fun we told our friend (the guy who played the female char) to play along, 2-3 month Mr. X though he was going out with her (in-game)... and found out on vent it was actually a guy... Mr. X never showed up since then... lol
In FFXIV we have another guy who thought he was going out with a girl but actually was a guy... it lasted 4 month lol at least this guy didn't quit the game lol he changed LS and never talks to her(him) now lolol.
So EVIL.... :D
Escaping from the ridiculousness of life is great with gaming, doesn't mean you should shun those whose gaming for other outlets. Just because you get out lots, doesn't mean you move beyond single minded thinking either. People who spend their entire lives outside can be a dumb as a post. Do yourself a favour and explore a little while you are out there. ;)
Also Reinheart, I lol'd at that. I've witnessed the same, it IS funny to see how people react when they find out they have been hitting on a dude.
At least no one thinks you're a girl because "Ashley" is a girl name..
I actually find that pretty cruel, toying with someone's feelings and embarrassing them like that. I'm sure all parties share some fault.. including the guy hitting on what he thought was a girl.
No one really deserves to be messed around with like that though.
People need to think before they act. If someone could be the wrong sex for you and you don't know, and it could make you uncomfortable if they were.. simply don't put yourself in the situation to be tricked.
And sure it might seem funny to screw with someone... but man.. especially for months?? Fine line between a joke and cruelty.
This is quite true. People do assume your personality based on who you roll. To a degree at least.
You guys ever heard of risk vs. reward? Well that's the gamble you make when trying to hook up through a game. I say try a dating service first, if you're unable to ask a girl out face to face.
The only people I find that make these threads are the ones that fell in love with someones avatar to find out it wasn't what they wanted. Assuming someones gender over text chat is setting yourself up for failure.
welcome to the interwebz i'd say.
i guess online dating portals still win tho.
i'm a pretty gurl, please send muney so i can travel to ur country!
well tbh im not really sure what the OP actually wants. Say for example we all post rl pics of ourselves (that post has long been and gone) what does he or she want to do about future gamers? Ask them to post a pics as soon as they roll their first char?
And what about if someone was playing a char of the opposite sex? will they end up wearing a special identity arm band in game? As if that hasnt been done in history already lol
Lucinda (Miss) xXx
Lucinda - you are the first person in this thread that I believe is actually a girl.
If I told you why I thought that, the thread would derail and it would get locked in 5 minutes. Also, I'd get banned for a few days.
Meeting someone through a game is as possible as meeting someone anywhere else in life. It doesn't have to be risky if you go about things the right way and know that things could just not work out.
I found the love of my life that way. Neither of us were looking. We were friends for a while first and just became fond of each other. I wouldn't date anyone till I felt I knew them well enough.. so there were many skype calls, webcam, pics, voice chat, phone.. Even met his family.
He's kind and patient and thoughtful. The relationship went slowly until we felt we knew each other well enough to visit.
Last year was one visit a year. This year we're hoping for 2 a year. We both decided it would be best for him to finish University before he comes to live here though. We're very happy and we're dealing with the distance fine, with hope that it won't always be distant.
It's not for everyone. I fear, the people who have the most trouble are those who go looking for a relationship in a game.
If you really want to.. find out who's behind the screen before you get too attached.
I never understood those who just flirted with someone without knowing who they are.. Unless they didn't care of course and were just joking.. then it's all in fun, but.. Maybe some people don't realize it IS a role-playing game.. and there ARE some people playing roles.
Edit: More on topic.. I wanna see more funny pics. Get on it people! XD
