What is there to do, I find myself getting really bored really fast.
Any advice? I normally love FF games so I would like to enjoy this one as well.

Stare at the lockouts time.
lol loaded question. (subjective one at that)
depends on too many factors.
not knowing if you just joined the game or just the forums, im not sure where to direct you.
personally, im bored to tears. if it wasnt for grinding frontlines for glamour, id have almost nothing to do.
not that there is little to do, just little that I want to do.
Heya there!
Since MMOs mostly comes with repetitive action, if you get bored easily, this type of game might not be for you.
That being said, the game in itself comes forth at lvl 50 (sad but true) All things will unlock for you, provided that you can beat the content of course.
If you are part of an FC, being with them on the social aspect helps alleviate the boredom.. somewhat.
Seeing as you are 5 active members, I guess it's all old friends, so you shouldn't have problems with that.
Your FC is brand new, so the people in it. You will have to stick through it and get all to 50 (do the story, you can skip on the side quests, do all dungeons together)
Sometimes it could be good to join an Established FC (rank 8) that will lend you a hand to lvl up, clear contents, and socialize even more, new friends ftw! ^^
Wishing you the best of luck.
Dude go gather. Gathering is so simple and fun. Even if it means gathering to supply a friend,fc, or your own craft job.
OMG it's so refreshing to see the community on the forums are much nicer and more helpful than the people in game, well at least my server siren lol.
Anyways im level 25 on my GLA I have finished my hunting log up to level 30 and im so bored of doing quest lol.
Oh dude..! Just buckle down and finish the quest line and reach level 50! This game is known for being slow at first.. But it gets better!!
And my recommendation still stands! If you're really bored of quests go try a gathering or crafting class!
If I were you I would look into getting in a Fc that can help ya out and keep you company. Even if ti means making a thread in your world forum! [http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/835-Siren]
Is there any open world bosses or mobs to grind off of? I have been on for like 3 hours today and I haven't really done anything, im starting to feel like there isn't a point to leveling any more lol.
Naw not really.. killing mobs is a tactic that we used in other, single-player FF games. For you the best experience is likely to be grinding dungeons that is closest to your level. Dungeons are likely better because as a tank, it will not take long for you to Que up a dungeon.
and to unlock dungeons you need to.. do quests.
I just think I need to take a long break from this game. thanks anyways guys.
Hunt, speed run, skip CS, more hunting, hunt, hunt, skip more CS. AFK. Complaints in forum because you can't do any progress - takes too long for duty finder to work. Complaints that Hunt is ruining the game. Repeat.
I would finish off the main story. Between FATE, levequest, main story quest, and random quest, plus daily roulettes, you will reach level 50 in about a week playing casually. It is that fast. So many things to do on your first play through. Then you can read my above statements
Eh perhaps you just need a break. MMOs can seem very big and intimidating to some. Especially when theres no real clear path besides quests[in my opinion].
Good luck Desverso!
Gladiator is kind of boring to level. Switch to a healer class instead. Dungeon queues are just as fast and there is a lot more to do to keep the group alive, especially at low levels.
Stand around and shout all day "LF Hunt inv" and never contribute any of your own time searching.
i couldnt imagine being bored so early in the game.
it was like christmas when i got my email for my beta code.
christmas again when EA dropped.
me & ARR had a long honeymoon phase (until 2.2).
before you go try a different job. leveling is never "fun" but its essential to get through so you can get to the fun stuff.
do FATES inbetween dungeon pops.
and lastly, if you are set on being a tank (kudos on that), hang in there.
2.4 and NIN release should breath new life in the game and it will need all the tanks it can get :)
Kill people in Titan Extreme for 6 hours a day.
Trust me, it never gets old.
I did fates for the last 3 levels lol im nodding off playing this game and yet I only woke up 6 hours ago X.X
Simply put, this game, while part of the Final Fantasy series, is not the same type of game as the single-player jrpg's that make up the bulk of the series.
This in an MMO and as such plays very differently. There is a main storyline to follow through to level 50, but that is only a small fraction of the things to do in this game so you can't expect to only do that as you will most definitely run into points where you will have to go do other quests, run dungeons, participate in fates, etc. to reach the required level to then be able to complete the next story quest.
As others have pointed out, MMO's are much slower and repetitious as compared to a single-player game so this might not be the type of game for you, just because you have enjoyed the other Final Fantasy games that doesn't mean that you will like this one.
Also, MMO's tend to start very simple and very slow so that players that are not MMO veterans are not overwhelmed and can learn the ropes and then it grows in complexity as far as combat, boss encounters, etc. the farther you get in it. Look up some YouTube walkthroughs of the Primal EX fights and you will see the difference in content at the beginning of the game and stuff that will come later.
However, before throwing in the towel i would suggest that you check out the other things the game has to offer. Bored with GLD, try out a different class/job. Only been doing story missions? Try out some of the other quests available, run some dungeons, etc.
At lvl 25 you have seen very little of what there is in the game.
Sadly the most interesting thing in this game right now is gardening, and it will soon be available to everyone via personal housing. Grinding dungeons gets old fast, treasure maps are cool, but unless you buy them, you are limited to one every 18 hours. The hunt system was neat, just in my eyes poorly implemented, raiding in this game isn't what I consider raiding, it's a quick jump in, run a preset pattern, loot jump out kind of thing. Aside from the relic quest that isn't so much about time right now, but something to work towards over time, nothing in this game is really meant to hold your attention for more than an hour at a time, and once you hit 50 anything you can do gets old fast.
FISHING !

FATE bosses, elite marks (need to be level 50), Odin (also level 50) and Behemoth (also level 50).
What exactly is the problem? Don't have the required level for the next quest? No fun with the class? Or just no energy for anything? Lv 25 is not exactly a level where nothing is here to do. Except if you are AFK for 3 hours.
What dungeons have you unlocked? Dungeons are one of the better ways to level and gear yourself in the process. You have to complete certain questlines in the main story to access some (and some other random quests for others) but it's pretty straightforward. At level 25, especially as a gladiator, you still have a lot ahead of you.
Or join an FC. There's always people shouting for people to join their FC. Find some nice ones that will do content with you. It's an mmo, the big draw of these are how you interact with the community.
You're bored already and you just started?
Hmm...I suggest try different class/jobs. It may be more fun. GLD does get very boring.
AND, get some friends or a FC to join so you can chat a bit.
I dunno, I personally found the crawl to 50 the most fun part of the game, end-game is meh.
Oh well, we def. need more things to do than play dress-up and craft... [Come on Casino and P.housing!!]
You're a tank, you get instant que's, just follow storyline to advance, and spam dungeons and you should level in no time...still, I enjoyed
taking it slow on my first class/job because after that it doesn't get any better and the new smell wears off when you're spamming the same
dungeons 15 million times and killing Primal's of x different levels a bunch of times for a horse lol.
Just saw this post. Have fun doing the Atma relic line. You'd probably quit the game 100% with that horrible grind. xD
I ended up creating a new character, and just did the main storyline up to unlocking the retainers. From that point on I've been just gathering/farming/crafting. Game feels a lot different now from what it was when I was just playing my blm main, done all that stuff so many times now, just decided to play differently finally.
At the same time though, it seems abit pointless since gear seems to be handed out in this game, but w/e its just a hobby for me.
I've also noticed that I have never been in trouble with money either, I still end up making more money and everything is so ez to obtain myself. Working on getting all crafts to 20, and can get everything myself. Even if I buy the stuff from the NPC's there dirt cheap, but I still just go out and get it myself.
I bet once I start working on lvl 20+ crafts it will pretty much be the same. I'll just hafta level up one class to beable to farm mobs.
Yeeeeah! I see your problem right there~ Siren is not the nicest server socially. Or so I assume... Its the only server I've ever been on. Most people keep to themselves, though there are a lot of gems too.
If you ever need some buddies, me and my fc are always willing to help, though there are only really four active members. Keep your nose to the grind! You're half way to the real fun. Once you get to lv 50 the game really opens up for you. I recently started grinding my alts to 50 cause I honestly love the quest fest and I wanna be able to do the up coming event with them, but if you don't enjoy it, I bet you'll like end game. There much less questing.
Thank you all for the replies, I got my GLA to 30 and CNJ to 15 unlocked PLD it's been a bit more fun lol, the chocobo really helps lol, it's just the story missions that I hate lol. I think it would be so much better if it was just one long story quest per level rather the 20 per level it gives you XD, alsoi hate when story makes you do dumb thing like help clean up a bar or stuff like that, idk what that has to do with me saving the world or whatever it is the story has me doing lol.
I run my daily expert roulette, do alex and treasure maps, then spend my time on f2p games.
TERA atm, Elin is master race.

It isn't the fault of gamers for getting bored with MMORPGs when developers continue to copy a dated action RPG combat system instead of using the various evolutions of that system which can be found in other games. Case and point, Dragon Age 2.
There really isn't much I can suggest as to activities to fend off the boredom. Boredom has become a fact of life in MMORPGs, and the only reason anyone still remains to play these games is for the social aspects. One particular thing I do is try to gather different item sets to deck my character out in. You might also try to raise your chocobo while doing one of the many grinds available in the game.
The point I was making was only pertaining to some people with less tolerance than others about repetitive actions.
So yup, the fault biggest % goes to the game creators I agree with you.
The kill ten rats gets through me as well, don't worry ;)
Copying: This one takes game aspect from so many others, it's crazy. (GW2 Dynamic Events as a good example - and yet, the same existed beforehand)
I've read they want to kinda redo the combat and skill system later on: can't wait for it!
In programming, you learn not to reinvent the wheel: Some likes to push it a bit too far though.
Even still, I managed over the first 7 month of ARR to get all my classes to 50 (now I see a Fate and I want to Eww..)
/* I am used to Korean-style MMOs, where getting from lvl 79 to 80, hittting the same mobs cause it's the one that gives the most XP for your time spent, over-and-over, killing him more than a thousand times.. when no one else do the same thing than you, else it's longer (Mob train ftw) with respawn rates a bit slow.. so Hell.. yeah. */
We tend to play games because of the fun factor (right?). If boredom kicks in, time to look about what you can do to alleviate it (start crafting or gathering if you never did any, socialize, take it a bit slower to complete your dailies), or look at the DEVs that seems to take the easy-way-out when it comes to Questing and Story most of the time.
I admit the first story line is ok. All things aside, beside Hildebrand, are meh, and just a cover as 'to do' when you grow tired of Fates.
Right now I am getting all the divine gear for Glamour purpose. Getting ready tonight for yukata's and that new Bomb dance ^^
Let's keep the fun flowing guys! :D
As a GLD/PLD leveling up is the absolute easiest for you. Just queue up for dungeons and whoala, instant queue (in most cases).
I set a goal to aquire all the tank gear/weapons from all the dungeons. I failed lol but i did get most of them :) Failed at...Cutters cry, i didn't get the helm until after i had both tanks at 50.
I been playing FFXIV now for a month. For me it gets better and better ever night I played! I am level 20 GLA and I have all the other classes at least level 5. I know it's nothing fancy but it's a start.
There is plenty to do in this game. There are more ways to customize and grow your character in FFXIV than just about any MMO since before WoW at least. A lot of it is grinding, and most players dont care to do most of it ... but the content is there.
There's a lot to do. The question is, is it actually fun?
How are you bored? They have way too much stuff to do in this game.
