PvP/PvE Hotbars
hi devs and PvP forum users.
not sure if this has been brought up, in the works, or not possible but
i would love it if my PvP hotbars were separate from my PvE hotbars.
im really loving FLs but one gripe is always having to redo my bars.
i play with a controller and have only mastered the use of
2 hotbars. any more and i get sluggish and unable to react properly.
ex. it would be nice if my PvE SCH was independent from my PvP SCH in the amoury system.
hope that made sense.

Just would like to say I would also like to see this implemented if possible. For SCH I have 4 hotbars that I use now. Ctrl +, Alt + and Shift +. I would like to take it down to 3 and take less room on the screen.
-
I am surprised more people aren't asking for this. I would very much like this.
-
I agree! In the middle of battle its can get difficult to shift+1 and then use one or two attacks, and oops my teammate needs a heal, shift+4 and oh damn im focused, shift+3 equanity (whats the name again?)
Now I could have all of these on the same hotbar, maybe 2, but my fingers have learned where every ability is and it's gonna be tough to relearn all of my hotkeys

PVP abilitie are murder for PS3/PS4 players.
Maybe have a PVP crystal you can equip that creates a new set with specific hotbars for PVP?
-
The devs touched upon this in one of their "Letters to the Producer" not too long ago I believe. The main issue was storage space, particularly with the PS3/PS4, if I'm not mistaken. If you have hotbar sets for each and every job/class, then add on top of that an additional PvP hotbar set for each and every job/class, it can get messy development-wise and become a save issue. I'm not saying it's impossible, as the devs said it isn't, too, but they have to take some time to look into it, which I believe they're doing.
As a PC user who has all 10 hotbars on-screen always and still short on space, I'd love for something like this to be implemented as well. Then again, perhaps I need to manage my "space" a little better... X)

I agree. I don't know how many times I've forgotten to change out my abilities alternating between pve and pvp content.

Actually, josh, I was having exactly the same problem! I use the controller and use just my two cross hot-bars. There actually -is- a solution and I got it all set up today!
So, I'm assuming you still have the default hotbars shared, right? (4-8) Now, your class specific 4-8 "switching" hotbars don't actually disappear! They're just hidden under the shared ones, so they act like storage space for you.
Go to your character settings and unshare 4-8. Then create a macro with the following commands:
/crosshotbar copy [class] [crosshotbar#] [class] [crosshotbar#]
So, to start, just do this (if you're anything like me):
/crosshotbar copy SMN 1 SMN 8
/crosshotbar copy SMN 2 SMN 7
This'll get most of your abilities across to bar 8 without you having to touch a thing. Then edit both of those ability sets (bar 8 and 7) to your PVP liking. Use 6 and 5 similarly to make PvE sets.
Finally, use two different macros (PvE and PvP). Just mess with the above wording so that they copy 8 > 1 and 7 > 2 (or 6 > 1 and 5 > 2). Put them somewhere accessible and, voila, you're done! You have your very own switcher. By the way, make a macro for "Facetarget" while you're at it. That button is sooooo much more important in PvP, and is unavailable on a controller by default (you'll lose spells at the last second if people get behind you).
EDIT: Oh, yeah, lastly, cover up your handiwork by re-sharing those 4 cross hotbars (also so you don't inadvertently mess them up).
EDIT 2: If the above looks a bit weird, I enabled the extended bumper support (R2 > L2 specifically opens my R2 Set 2, L2 > R2 opens my L2 Set 2). So, I copy my stuff to sets 1 & 2.

As nice as it would be to have a separate PvP bar for things, I just ended up shoving every PvP skill onto its own separate hotkey, since they all have a godawful long CD anyway. Since even the worst offender has only 8 skills, they sit snugly on F/V, ShiftF/V, CtrlF/V and Ctrl+ShiftF/V Sure, that means I can't look in behind me with the V key... But when would I ever use that anyway?

I have one marco setup to swap in all of my PvP skills. Such as:
/hotbar action "Aetheric Burst" 1 9
The one macro to swap in all of my PvE skills. Such as:
/hotbar action "Quelling Strikes" 1 9
Note that this doesn't work with macros, but for macros, you can use the /hotbar copy command.
-
You can do this easily on PS3/PS4, once you have this in place you can swap from PVE to PVP based crossbars with one macro, and swap back from PVP to PVE with another macro. And you don't even need separate ones for each job, mine takes care of SMN, SCH, and BRD all at once. Here's what I posted on this before, I don't know how to like back to my old post so I just did a copy/paste of it:
You can macro that.... at least with crosshotbars which is what I use, so I never had a reason to work out a hotbar version. Assuming it's the same principle, since the layout for a Class (LNC) is independent of Job (DRG) and you probably don't run as a Lancer anymore, if u wanted a PVE and PVP version of bars 1 and 2 for DRG, you could copy the PVE bars from DRG 1 to LNC 1 and DRG 2 to LNC 2, then set up DRG 1 and DRG 2 for PVP and copy to LNC 3 and LNC 4. Then a PVP macro would copy LNC 3 & 4 to DRG 1 & 2, and a PVE macro to restore them could copy LNC 1 & 2 to DRG 1 & 2. Even if you have a bar (say bar 4 as being shared between classes) and you can't SEE what you've copied to LNC 4 it's still there. And you don't need to have separate macros for every job, my PVP and PVE one copies ACN slots to SCH and SMN (even though skills aren't necessarily valid for the class) and ARC to BRD. I can even use it while on BLM and it moves my bars for me behind the scenes.
My PVP -> PVP macro looks like this:
/crosshotbar copy ACN 1 SCH 1
/crosshotbar copy ACN 2 SCH 2
/crosshotbar copy ACN 5 SMN 1
/crosshotbar copy ACN 6 SMN 2
/crosshotbar copy ARC 1 BRD 1
/crosshotbar copy ARC 2 BRD 2
And my PVE -> PVP does the same, but with different slot numbers to copy from on ACN/BRD. When I want to update a crossbar I just type the command to copy my updated crossbar back to whichever Class it should override from the job. Might seem complicated but that's me doing 3 separate PVP loadouts involving 3 Jobs and 2 Classes with a single macro to swap each direction, and doing this with just one Job/Class to start with wouldn't take much trial and error.
The difference though is if using hotbars vs crosshotbars the macro would be a tad different, seems like /hotbar copy would be avlb if /crosshotbar copy is, a macro guide should answer that.

As a controller user, to seamlessly switch between my crossbars I simply turn ON/OFF certain bars.
Character Settings -> Hotbar Settings -> Cross
I have my PvE focused bars set to Hotbar 1 and 2. While my PvP focused bars are set to Hotbar 3 and 4.
---To go from my PvE to PvP bars, I turn OFF Hotbar 1 and 2, and turn ON Hotbar 3 and 4
---To go from my PvP to PvE bars, I turn OFF Hotbar 3 and 4, and turn ON Hotbar 1 and 2
(I also play with L2 and R2 combo configurations in which I just switch between Crossbars 7 and 8 for PvE and PvP)
P.S. It is possible to set Facetarget on a controller to either L3 or R3, you don't have to make a macro dedicated to Facetargetting.

sorry to necro, but now more than ever do i wish that PvE and PvP could be different
now as a neutered SCH i wish i wouldnt have to change my cross class every time i decide to try FLs (which is rare TBH)
now clerics wont work and protect is... meh.
it would be nice if PvP and PvE could be separate entries in the armoury system

ive customized my ps3 hotbars, I a wireless keyboard for everything and have separate sets for PvP / PVE ... in general two hot bars per ... and then of course theres that one back up hot bar for all classes with abilities you need when you least expect them
