For example in FFXI and 1.x when a monster attacked or you attacked them/missed they had audibles of their species. While in ARR some monsters do still have sounds, a lot seem to have had their sound taken away from them.

Either my sound hasn't been working or it's likely moved to channels (surround sound that I don't utilize.)
It was always interesting how lively monsters felt because they ...as weird as it is to say, made sounds just like us players.

Monster sound effects would be neat, I forgot they even made special sounds XD
Talking about monster quirks it would be nice to see other identities brought back as well, I miss aggro types, monster behaviors like curiosity, fear, following or helping (snurbles).. Some flavor touches would do well to bring the over-world some special light. -

I agree that enemies need more sounds and, especially, voices. Some enemies have a few vocal lines, but they don't match the text and are very quiet (Gaius van Baelsar is a prime example). The excuse of "Well we're all on the same server so we don't want it to be different" doesn't really hold up either, considering the segregated server structure now.
And no, I'm not asking for enemies to have 300 lines and read me a story before bed. Just actually voicing the darn Primals when they say something would be grand.

Some mobs, like coblyns and goats, would also walk up to you out of curiosity. It made the world seem a bit more alive. :)

I'd much rather see monster-to-monster interaction. For example; when Maahes spawns right next to some aldgoats he would eat it and gain a short regen buff. I heard that 1.0 had this type of interaction with the gobbue's picking up other monsters and eating them.

Edit: So actually i went outside my housing area and tested on some enemies, pretty much all of them make noises but they aren't as loud as they used to be compared to 1.0 and they don't make noises upon taking damage like in 1.0 which is a good thing considering those were the annoying and loud ones and it would be incredibly awful with 8+ people attacking. -

@: Estellios- If they still make some sounds then they are very quiet lol- at least bump the volume up on critical hits with an inner cooldown (cant make more than X sounds per Y time). Audio feedback is a nice touch, certainty we don't want to be annoying but they are real quiet then - and I cant hear them over my lightsaber sound effects.
Edit: I turned my none music sounds up and I can hear on attacks a number of monsters can make sounds- I had a hard time hearing them because I don't really like the battle effects (even metal sword attacks sound like star wars to me). So that'd be part my problem lol, though it would reveal that maybe sound volumes could be adjusted. And the critical part. :P So in conclusion issue because of another issue lol. -

Things like this made gathering in high level areas give your items more value due to the time and challenge it took to actually get the items instead of just smacking a tree/rock in the field where monsters seem allergic to spawn. Feel free to check out my old thread about the monster AI in my signature. This is way back in 1.0 when they first cut down the idea, they teased us with information that obviously never came to fruition as once 2.0 hit they just cut any thought of AI or uniqueness to monsters out the window. -

^ that... a lot of mob characterizations have been taken away since 1.0. Crabs used to get into a defensive curl and you could not do any dmg to them when they were in that state. marmets and other mobs would come up to you and follow you around. other mobs would have other animations and interactions with people like you said with the sound aggro mobs. Some even fled from you when their HP got low.
