As the title says.
The program is called Face Rig, it allows your character to mimic facial expressions through the use of a webcam and other mediums. Giving your character more unique identities.
Eitherway, it looks cool.

Looks like the SOEmote thing that'll be in EQNext.
PS3 Limitations.
Our character models are a lot nicer then the example ones there too... this would be so great!
And it would encourage me to actually sit up straight while playing *laughs*
Gonna get a lot of this expression on people who failed to dodge a mechanic xD

I've personally always really liked this idea. It's one of many reasons I now have a webcam. I enjoyed using it in EQ2. I'd love if they could implement something like that in XIV.
I'm on PS4 but this would be sweet - instead of the class icon next to everyone's name you could see their character's face as it is emulating your real face! That would make the game super fun, haha!
Between this and Oculus Rift...we're dancing a fine line between a game...and .hack - SAO.

If you like to see this, sure.
THIS WOULD BE THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER.
O____________O
PLZZZ
Its good to see there are others interested. I am unsure why you would say ps3 limitations as this could be just for PC users. /shrug
Because they've made it clear that they can't write separate clients. I've said before that there is absolutely no reason why PC users can't have a client as powerful and pretty as the 1.0 client while PS3 users have a more simplified client, but to the developers, everything seems to have to be exactly the same, just with minor quality differences.
Ah well that's a darn shame.
this reminds me of that bruce willis movie with the robots for some reason.
Waste of resources.
That wasn't a waste :/. 1.0 was years behind even old games. They've made a lot of improvements during 2.0 development stages though, the last one was really great- where they blended shadows removing much of the shimmering and added better identity between the entities.
Not sure how nearly every game developed see worth making their flora adequate (last 5 years at least) and then this game should be exempt... (Even wow with terribad graphics had better).
If that doesn't mean anything, the great subligar king agreed that a little work would be great too. Holy art thou man.
/perturbed rant over the grass bandwagon
I agree whole-heartedly, well as much as I can under the circumstances. I don't think anything is a waste as long as it provides entertainment. I think taking out alot of what was in 1.0 is a waste of resources. (CC/AV Dungeons) to name a few.
Anyway, If what Arias says is true then this topic should be closed. _-_ ah well.
Well they're supposed to be getting a Dx11* milestone soon that also comes with some graphical enhancements (or shortly thereafter). I imagine that would indeed stimulate the divide further, perhaps there is hope :). Would probably help if one of the programmers in SE's repertoire is interested in facial movements, I imagine that is how this face thing started anyway- as someones fun side project.
I'm pretty sure a lot of the RPers on Balmung would have too much fun with this XD.
*The date has changed a few times so I may know the wrong one but last I heard it was a bit after the ChinaJoy event.
Oh yea, this is a great idea, I can just see it now:
Half the server will be standing there with the 'WTF' face, looking at the other half of the server with the 'stoned off my arse' giggles...
then in a dungeon/raid, tank dies, and it would go like this:
Tank: dude wtf?
healer: sorry lag ; ;
tank: Lies! I saw you chewing... put down the cheeseburger and heal me!
whm: <burp expression>
tank: <smoke comes out of his ears>
I think it would be hilarious, however I think it would be more trouble then its worth.
To a certain extent it could. 256MB ram clearly isn't enough and would barely run Windows. When a program can't use enough real memory it'll rely more on the page file located on your hard disk drive. Now the big issue with this isn't space but access time and for a program it's slow to sue the HDD. An SSD on the other hand isn't good for mass storage, although much better now, but is excellent for miniscule access times. The shorter it takes for the page file operation the quicker the program will work. It wont allow you super performance but an SSD can help a little with low RAM systems. You could argue that buying more RAM would be cheaper than an SSD I guess.
