Plz make "Claymore" style class!!!

I kno Square wanted to make this MMO slightly more unique with a Dragoon class as THE main melee close range class/job using a Lance instead of the normal sword most other MMOs use as a melee dps class (besides hand-to-hand Monk) but for the love of god PLZ gimme a claymore style class. I dont care if its a damn gunblade or not (to be more Final Fantasy authentic*) but anything will satisfy. Preferably more like the "Claymore" manga but ill take gunblade or wutever! >.<

actually, 2-handed greatswords were used by dark knights in XI to epic slash/smackupsidethehead effect.

Edit because I'm dumb: Also, FF4's protag (also a dark knight) had the Dark Sword, a two-handed greatsword, as did Leon, another dark knight, from FF2.

Its quite possible this will be added with dark knight or rune fencer rather than as a gun blade type thing. Both are final fantasy authentic and thus far in the game gun blade stuff has been garlean only no?

Uhh actually in a lot of Final Fantasy games they use Claymore/Zweihander type weapons. Think FF7, and to be honest I don't think Dragoon was anywhere intended to be the main dps... I mean... Monks have higher damage potential but I won't get into that. Fact of the matter is making the animations, skillsets, particle effects, weapon design, and adjusting the armors to avoid clipping takes a lot of time.

Classes like Berserker, and Dark Knight generally fit the bill of 2h sword, but who knows when we will see them due to popularity and the like. Highest priority is to fill in missing niche roles in parties, then secondary is popularity, and then finally whatever they feel like adding or bringing back from an old FF if they even wanted.

EDIT: Sorry since this was just mentioned, Garlean weapons have gunblades yes but their mechanics and fighting style are already in the game THUS making a class/job from that is a lot easier. ALSO I believe it was stated we would get a gunblade class sometime in the future... who knows when that is.

Yea definitely but its jus so aggravating that they dont have the stereotypical MMO melee class xD

I originally wanted to be a Warrior because I thought (prior to doing research before the game was released) that Warriors would have two different weapon types to choose from, like how Black Mages / White Mages can use Staves or a Wand/Scepter with a shield.

I figured the Warrior would used both giant axes and giant swords, and I was aiming exclusively for the giant swords :P
I'm not disappointed with being stuck with only the axes, as some of them look BA in my opinion, but i've always been a sword guy. I roommate has a couple axes but I own swords lolz.

I can see a 2 handed sword class easily added.

Base Class: Knight (Tank)
-Job # 1: Rune Knight (Tank) (Basically a Rune Fencer from FFXI)
-Job # 2: Dark Knight (DPS)

Totally hoping gunner class will be a 2hander gun sword class <3

It'd probably be awhile until there's another melee dps with ninja coming up. Though I suppose a two handed sword class that splits off to both tank and dps jobs is possible.

So Cloud? I'd love to see slashing two handed /dps/ weaponry. How would the mechanics and feel be? High spike with delays to emphasize weight and power? (Average meeting other DPS classes as not to be unfair, but the feeling would be massive clobbering). Or more of the image and actually not far from how Cloud appears to fight (Advent Children), which is still high paced.

This is the great sword "Ragnarok" from Final Fantasy 11. As a FF11 vet, I totally support this thread. Being able to RAWR!!! Mobs with a giant sword is just plain awesome.

Dark Knight would make the most sense for me
in terms of a job to use.

Warriors also use axes, not 2hand swords ^^
They can use the axe blade as a shield

I've actually discussed this with some of my FC mates - in FFXI dark knight was known for two things

1) Great Sword
2) HP used for Damage moves/Bonuses

Right now we have classes that use MP for damage (mages) or MP for damage bonuses (brd) - or TP for damage (mnk, drg, so on).

I would love to see them introduce dark knight as a great sword DPS that uses HP for damage bonuses/moves. This would mean you could make the job fairly easy to execute massive dps... but only as much as the healers can heal you. MP and TP could be used for triggers on the moves (which then consume HP based on damage). Basically they would be a class that can self suicide really easily... but deal massive spike damage. A dead dps is a useless dps though in most fights.

The reason why I said it should be a tank class is because we already have enough DPS as is. Basically a knight is supposed to defend their companions but the dark knight is actually a corrupted knight in my opinion.

I feel like Dark Knight should be more Scythe based, but I guess that would be too close to Dragoons and lances/spears. I would love to see a Berserker/Rune Knight class that used 2h Swords. I really, really, really miss 2H Swords, kinda disappointed I can't be a 2H Paladin sometimes. Rune Knight would fit that bill great imo, I'd love to play a 2h sword tank or dps either one.

And I still want RDM dangit! We need some cool support/utility jobs!

which makes them more concerned with offense rather than defense.

next tank will probably be Samurai which will make use of Parrying a lot of attacks.

Going by how FFV's Berserker went, it would more likely be added as the second job to Marauder, though its positioning as a damage dealer would most likely be attacking from the front rather than the sides or rear like Monk or Dragoon to maximize damage output, putting them at greater risk, but being true to the nature of what a berserker does.

It wont work because Paladin is actually called Knight on the JP client. Japanse in general doesnt have concept of Paladin and these holy warriors are often referring as the Holy Knights.

Because I have a hard time just letting things go, I feel compelled to correct you: Cecil's sword was not a two-handed greatsword. As indicated in this screenshot, he is equipped with the Dark Sword in one hand and a Dark Shield in the other.
