How good are DoL at making money?

As topic, any in particular better at it? Am looking to max one for maps but I would like to make some profits as well of course ^^;

Right now; fisher. Also, it's easiest to level, best to farm maps, and easiest to meld.

I dunno. I don't consider fisher to be best to farm maps, cause you can't throw back a Toadskin or Boarskin if you get one. I'd rather use Miner or Botanist for this since you can simply not harvest maps that you don't want. *shrugs* The rest I agree though, it's easy as hell to level and no GP worries = easy melding.

Maps are specific to certain fishing holes (e.g. Lake Tahtotl will only give peisteskins). It's easier than MIN/BTN because you don't have to run around for 15 minutes waiting for your map to pop up.

Oh, interesting. I wasn't aware of that. I've accidentally fished up Goatskin a few times, not realizing my window was up, and all you can really do is sort of flail at the screen and say "nooooooooooo". xD

Fishing map you want just select the right spot :

- Timeworn Leather Map: Level 40 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes.

- Timeworn Goatskin Map: Level 45 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes.

- Timeworn Toadskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (South Umbral Isles(Western La Noscea) and Rathefrost(Mor Dhona) only)

- Timeworn Boarskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Reaver Hide(Western La Noscea) and the Tangle(Mor Dhona) only)

- Timeworn Peisteskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Lake Tahtotl(North Shroud), Parata's Peace (Western Thanalan), and the North Shards(Mor Dhona) only).

Is miner money capable? Might sound silly but I love their "af"

For that reason alone I carry Leather, Goatskin, and Toadskin in my inventory at all times. So if I catch one of those on accident it gets thrown back and I save my allowance ^_^

Food for thought if anyone has that issue of forgetting about your allowance coming up

To be more specific, best spots are: The Tangle for Boarskin; use a topwater frog, and North Shards (the north east corner is where I go) with chocobo fly, for peisteskin.

But miner and botanist both make more gil.

I have two characters, one is fisher 50 (her main) the other has both miner and botanist 50. I can make more gil off one unspoiled node than fishing for an hour.

I prefer Reaver Hide for Boarskin. More valuable bycatch, better music.

I'd agree that fisher can be the biggest money maker at the moment, and possibly with the right supporting class.
Big fish are bringing big money.
Culinarians who want to level desynth need your 2 star fish. I'm in the low 80's for CUL desynth and get about 0.2 of a skill up from a 2 star fish. If I couldn't fish my own up the process would be costing me millions of gil.
It isn't just people levelling the desynth that want your fish either. The ones who already have it levelled are buying them to desynth, hoping for the rare and extremely valuable drops. I've seen some of them listed and bought for millions. If you have cul desynth levelled you could go down the route of gambling on desynthing them yourself or you could take the safer route and just AH list your fish.
Relatively easy to catch fish like gigantsharks sell all day long for about 75k on my server. Something like a Frilled shark would go for much, much more. There are still fish we don't know the drops from and which haven't appeared on the AH listings. You could probably name your price for them.

The downside is that with FSH you're playing the rng game big style. Botany or miner vs fisher is like mnk vs blm. Botany and miner will give you steady income, fsh will give you lean patches and big big spikes.
