A light party clears Twintania (and macro icon question)

Okay So a Light Party actually managed to suceed where 99% of full parties flailed; defeating Twintania. an aimpressive feat I;m but the video showed me something interesting...

On the upper right of the Tank HUD, you'll noticed that there's a macro with the icon fr the skill "Convert" However the icon isn't darkened (despite the fact that job abilities can't be crossclassed) or showing the HP cost. The question is: How can I configure the macros so that the cooldown and hp/mp/tp costs don't show? (like the Convert Macro seen in the video)

I think that would be a macro made before square enix removed the ability to use skill icons for your custom macros. I have a few of those still and they don't show any costs nor do they show the cooldown. Why they removed those icons is beyond me.

They removed them because they didn't show costs or cooldowns. Had to use /echo to tell you when the abilities in the macro were ready, or have the pictured skill on your bar somewhere. /micon is superior in every way and I never make a macro without it. Now if only /micon would work multiple times in the same macro...

Not trying to be a party pooper but check their gear and the dmg they're doing. They overgear this NERFED fight by far and their dmg is way above what the avarage raid team PROGRESSING throught T5 do, or at least the same amount what a full raid should be doing. Nice they did it, but nothing much of a "feat", sorry.

WTF? That's the kind of macro icons I want to use. (paticulay for different-classed/PvP abilities since tost cannot be lit in any other way)

They never removed them...

They just changed it to... /macroicon "<move's name>"

Okay I know that. It;d just that I'm a little disappointed that they always stay perpetualy dark because the class can't use (in because out in PvE in certain cases) While I understand the need for the costas and cooldown on amcros I wish there was an option to remove them for macros that don't need/have cooldowns (Like gearset macros)

Oh no, 4 people who can farm T9, all probably in full i110, can clear T5.

TBH, I'm not terribly impressed. Gear alone probably puts them at the same damage output as a full party in i90...then add the Echo, which is another 20% boost. Then add the fact that they know exactly what they're doing...Heck, the only real difference to what they're doing is they're down 2 DPS. I know a bunch of people who have solo-healed/been in solo-healed T5 before (in maybe i97 gear [was a few months ago I saw this the most]...and I was asked to solo-heal it once, with my i90 SCH...didn't try it), so its not something I haven't seen.

It may make for a good video, but isn't something to really brag about IMO. If they removed the Echo and did it, however...

EDIT: If I were in a T9 farm group I'd probably do something like this just for fun. But yeah...its not as impressive as it initially sounds.


EDIT2: I've always used /micon even when they had the old icons; was always annoyed at their lack of showing cool-downs on the macros.

In 2.28 they made macros show their icon regardless of ability availability. Before this, the macro would show the default M icon if you weren't on the job that can use the icon's ability. Any macro can use any icon now and this macro in the video won't actually be a convert macro. It will be a generic macro that just has that icon without "/action Convert" anywhere in it. One of my macros on Dragoon uses Flare as it's icon and is always lit. The moment I add "/action "Flare"" into it, the icon darkens because Flare, the macro's icon, is not available on Dragoon.

TL;DR: Icons only darken if the icon's skill is in the macro and unavailable on your current job.

And about the video: It's a nice battle and they did a good job. Do we really need to find reasons to hate on it? :)

You people who say, "full i110 with Second Coil clear", you all seem to forget one crucial piece of information; hunts. What does this mean, you may ask. Item level means balls since you can get up to i109 because of hunts. So what does this further imply? If 8 people who are i109 can't win Twin, then it makes this video pretty impressive.

The tank has the High Allagan Blade and Heavy High Allagan Coat...pretty sure I saw HA gear on the others as well.

EDIT: actually, that looks like Noct, sorry. But he does have the HA blade, the SCH and BRD have the HA robes, and I can't make out anything else.

Definite T9 raiders

To be fair, High Allagan equipment has mostly the same primary stats as the i110 soldiery gear (Which you can upgrade through hunts), but just different secondary stats (Well, except the weapons ofc but they don't make TOO much of a difference). I'm really impressed that they managed to 4-man Twintania. Good job! :)

Biggest difference is the people with HA, esp T8/T9 gear, are normally (I'd say 80-90% of the time) a lot better than people with i100+ with none.

Who's to say that normal people can't be good too? I'm sure with enough patience and practice, everyone can down t5! Remember that those people who can easily down t5 are the very same people who puts in the effort and practice. :)

On the video, sure they have HA gear and are more skilled but remember that there is also a possibility that it took them multiple runs to 4-man this judging by the fact that they reached the enrage timer.

I'm gonna cite an example here. for my BLM I used a macro with the level 3 spells (for fun) and set Tri-disaster as the icon (because it fits) However I do not have tri disaster itself in the macro. It stays dark regardless.

Just did the same thing and it's lit up. I'm starting to think this might be a setting somewhere. :confused: Maybe it's to do with the hotbar it's on. Shared, non shared? I'll play about...

Obviously it took a bit of practice; different strat an all. But in general, people who don't raid aren't at the skill-level to do this. Most people think ilv = skill, when it doesn't. I've seen countless people in full sol-gear (mix of 100 and 110) that are beyond terribad...and they outnumber the good people with the same gear (full sol, no HA) by a huge margin.

No matter how you slice it, it's a feat. They're the first light party to do it. I'm positive that if me and three friends were in full i110 we still wouldn't be able to do it. Not that me and my friends are bad, it would just be really hard to do.

I only saw one or two people holding HA weapons. The rest doesn't seem to be (the glow on the weappn gives it away). Also, there are only 2 DPS, compared to the usual 4, so I guess that makes them at a slight disadvantage?

Yknow even with echo and how geared they are. They BARELY beat enrage. Literally seconds away. It shows how difficult T5 is with 4 people. No matter how good their gear is.

In the topic of macros, does anyone know why I can't use pet skill icons for my macros? When I /micon a pet skill it shows the default M.

I had a similar problem before, and I dug around and found out that you'll have to add the word "pet" after the skill name, so something like this:

/micon "Whispering Dawn" pet

You 2 guys go post video of your own 4-man wins within the next few days; since it's "nothing much of a feat" and "not as impressive as it initially sounds" as the 2 of you say, it should be easy for you guys to do it fast - no ?
