Referral Mount

Not sure what happened to my original post. Just got back home and can't seem to find it. So, here goes again.

I very rarely post on game forums, but I'm a bit too pissed at this point to just turn the other cheek. You, SquareEnix, or the developers, or whom ever, knew that people have been asking for a two-person mount. In case you forget, or anyone else does, let me quickly quote from the Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XIV:

“We’ve received a lot of requests for two-person mounts and we’ve begun work on them, but we’re still only testing movement and issues related to programming. The models haven’t been finished, but if there are no issues, we will be looking into making a special chocobo design and create the model for it.

Yoshida: Since the time has just about come for the implementation of two-person chocobos, we’ve also been preparing a special chocobo that can be ridden by a bride and groom when they get married. “

So, knowing that this is a feature people have been asking for, you, in your infinite wisdom, decide to slap those people across the face and give them the middle finger by making it available through a referral program. Why do I say this? Because the only people that I would or could refer into this game are either already playing it, or have played it and since quit. So now I am left to either paying over $60 (which will not happen) or advertise on other sites offering money, items and services, only hoping that someone will take me up on my offer and not someone else who has a better offer.

Some may think this new mount is just vanity, but unfortunately it is a specific mechanic to an item in the game that many people have been asking for. Yes, apparently there is another two-person mount that will be available for married couples, but what if I want to ride with someone other than my betrothed, or what if I don't want to get married.

Between this last little stunt, the hunts (which has completely trivialized end game content/gear, except for vanity reasons) and the oh so popular time sink called Atma's, my patience with this game is nearing its end. I am going to hold out until 2.4 to see how the “Marriage Mount” works, but I don't have high hopes that you will do the right thing.

My suggestion to you, SquareEnix, or whom ever it may concern, is to implement another method to obtain the two-person mount, or make damn sure that the Marriage Mount is not only for the married couple.

Total Vanity, and not worth the rant IMO. I hope you get what you want but to be honest I think this was a smart decision on S.E.'s part.

smart if they wanted to make their PAYING customers pissed just to get some POTENTIAL $$$.

well, I don't care too much since I find the mount kinda ugly, but I really tried my best before the campaign to get friends interested in the game. one simply doesn't like mmos enough, although he played the beta, one couldn't get it to run on his pc and one quit after his free month because the game is a wow-snorefest-clone.

Its just a mount...

Frankly, the mount is totally fluff. So you can give party members rides. Chances are if you're running people around on the thing, they already have their own chocobo and it's just convenience. No, the thing that gets me is the 20% exp buff till level 25 headpiece. Sort of gives the other exp buff hats a kick in the shin before running off with it's wallet. Seriously.

So... SE deleted your post once... and you make the same post again...

I would say just chill and wait a little while before you attack SE for ignoring your needs. In the quote you give the models are mentioned in the plural, and given wanted they seem to be (Though not really by me...) chances are they will bring a 'normal' tow-person mount in time. The referral one could be a test to see how it goes down, and it is one way of trying to get more people to play the game.

There will be other dual rider mounts. It's not just going to be this one for referrals only and the wedding one for married people only and then nothing forever. Relax.

Well to be fair it does add a new function so it's more than vanity, at this time.

New mount doesn't bother me,nor am i tempted to get it. All mounts present and future will never beat the Legacy Chocobo.

I'm a little sad because I already referred it to my friends earlier and they already joined. And then, this appears. Oh well. :( Yes, it is only for vanity and fluff, it looks nice though. Hope to see more 2 rider mounts in other future content.

Actually, mine got deleted too about the hat. Specifically, it absolutely does give a swift kick to the shins of the other hats. My preorder/CE bonus shouldn't be less worthy than inviting somebody to play for 30 days. It's bad enough certain gear pieces aren't tied to the SE account and that many players didn't get the "Legacy" price reduction or the mounts and titles and so on from 1.0. Does not inspire confidence when their customer service only worsens the issue, which a year full of forum-goers with the exact same legacy problems that still go unresolved has proven.

Maybe they can add a similar looking mount to the Veteran Rewards campaign. The referral mount looks like a bigger legacy chocobo anyways, so no one should complain that a "referral" mount is re-skinned -again- for the Veteran Rewards.

On an aside note.. When they add chocobo breeding (they better dang it, I will riot) I hope that they add all variation of chocobos like their feather colors and types, general structure and size.. Cause this referral chocobo is huge. Perhaps you can bread a passenger chocobo.

I'm more annoyed with the exp headpiece being infinitely more useful than the helm of light or my asuran armguards. No idea where my hermes sandals went, but I guess they'd be silly anyway what with sprint being a thing. Still, it's not like exp is hard to come by or that I have that many classes under 20 that I even want to play.

The 2 person mount seems somewhat ridiculous to me. It's clumsier than both people using their own mount (first person has to summon the mount, second person right clicks and gets on once it's there) and besides that, when do you ever travel places with people!? It' snot like FFXI where you might need to run for 20 minutes to get somewhere. At most you're travelling for 3 minutes and there is auto-follow. This is barely new functionality and honestly they have to offer something for a recruitment campaign. A 2 person mount seems justified for this purpose, so why not? Nobody's ever going to use the damn thing except when it comes up in their mount roulette.

lol i'm more annoyed with the fact that my server has been perpetually locked out of character creation pretty much since launch (since 8/31/2013), so i can't recruit any friends without paying them additional money to have my account cut off of the server where all the people i already associate with are. I wouldn't do something like a transfer for the items, but it is really annoying when month after month i can't really say anything to my friends who don't play about the game because we'll never be able to play together for the foreseeable future without abandoning the friends i already have in-game, which i refuse to do.

Yeah, it's sad to know that they'll never explore the possibility of two person mounts any time after this, know matter how many years the game runs. Too bad this is the final update for mounts... /sarcasm

The above statement may be a little absurd, but so are the attitudes of impatient "GIVE IT NOW" players. If their decision to not release two person mounts to every person in the game immediately is a game breaking one, you might be playing the wrong game (and genre)

The whole reason behind SE giving out a 2 person vanity mount is to encourage people to tell their friends about FF14 and maybe get them to try it and subscribe. The mount is the incentive for people to do that.

For the love of god instead of complaining how about you just wait it out till the next patch when marriage releases. As the Draught Chocobo doesn't have any bardings to use, there will likely be more variations of it in the future. Man oh man, people jump to conclusions way too fast these days...

Do you think that there will really only be the one two-person mount?

In 1.0, for a limited time, we were able to get a gobbue mount. We, old-timey players, thought we had something special as a remembrance of our 1.0 days... Well guess what, all the new players complained begged so much that they wanted one... And look, you can get one from the Sylphs now.

I highly doubt this will be the only two-person mount added to the game. It is just a special release version. I'm sure in time SE will add other versions of it.
