It might become a bit too niche
It depends on the colour.
I'd like to see at least one totally random dungeon or trial, as a foil to the totally scripted Titan fight.
I think it would get a little too red...
I'd prefer a little more burnt ochre or chartreuse.
...I'm going to dare to be different, and say I'd prefer some azure elements actually.
And it got derailed into a coloutful thread, oh well.
While I still don;t know if rougelike elements will improve the game I do know that it needs more purple elements. hell. give it Rainbow elements!
If you people could learn the rouge and rogue are not the same word, then maybe we can have a reasonable discussion.
Or maybe if people could walk past a spelling error and contribute to what might turn into a legitimate discussion.
How would this possible work?
suddenly twintania in crystal tower?
While that would be hilarious, randomized stuff in an mmo is generally a bad idea.
No to ROGUElike elements. They have no real place in an MMO.
ROUGElike elements are perfectly ok, though. Have you checked out Tam-Tara Hardmode?
Well ou have Stone Vigil and you have Hullbreaker isle... they have quite a bit of random elements... But what I'd like to see is a proper maze/labyrinth open world zone(and should be the size of coerthas currently) that keeps changing(let's say once per week the layout changes) and that has stuff running around - some on leashes some not and that you need like 6 light parties to complete to access the final boss and all teh loots... The parties would need to split to find 6 respective trigger points which would then spawn their own bosses and after that either port the parties into a single instance or open a route to that single instance... And progress through the maze you would have chests, mimics, items that need to slot in somewhere(and maybe another party needs those and not yours), riddles, puzzles etc...
I've seen MMORPGs have procedurally generated instances before - at every level from just "semi-random monster generation" to "fully randomized maps, boss selection, challenges, etc". Hell, even XI had at least one I know of. Personally I think they're a fantastic idea for extending replay value, adding excitement to casual play, promoting teamwork, etc. - if not just kicking back and blowing off some steam.
Designing them to be as complicated of content as what currently exists, however, is very difficult. Adding in some light spontaneity to dungeons wouldn't be too hard; but a significant level of randomness would have to be its own thing in XIV.
It's kinda cute though when people are talking about it and smiling. I personally prefer gentler teals and darker purples. I also like pastels too... Ohhh, so hard to choose!
Alright, jokes aside. Depends on what you take from them. Most randomized dungeons aren't actually randomized and are taken from a few presets. It would be very, very fun to run through, at least the first time through though. And there would be a valid reason to drop a nice chunk of loot around :3
