Heya! So... this subject gets brought up a lot, but... Herklaedi, the infamous suit of armor acquired by trading in 5 Odin's Mantles.
I was thinking. Now that we have a system like Desynthesis in place where one item can turn into multiple items, I am curious as to whether or not it would be possible to split Herklaedi into its individual parts somehow. Maybe have a system where you can hand in a Herklaedi set to an NPC for a special quest similar to the Lv45 Job Quests.
As part of the quest (If you want to call it something witty, maybe something like "Trials of Herklaedi", referencing the Trials of Hercules from Roman Mythology), players learn more about the Dark Divinity and, as they do so, stumble upon ancient pieces of armor: A chest slot piece, a hand slot piece, a legs slot piece, and a feet slot piece, each in different places. Then the player takes the Herklaedi and the ancient pieces of armor to Gerolt, who will then use his mastery of the forge to infuse the power of Herklaedi into each individual piece, destroying the original Herklaedi in the process, and these pieces of armor could be granted depending on the current Job of the player, so any Job could equip a variant of the Herklaedi gear (other than PLD/WARs, who would get the genuine article), and the quest could be repeated so long as the player has a Herklaedi in their inventory.
This quest could also unlock a special quest (Maybe call it something like "A Dark Divinity Reborn" or something), where the player, after getting a full set of Herklaedi gear, starts wondering about the Hjalmr and the Zantetsuken (The Hjalmr being required to start this quest), and has to go onto the second part of this quest where they find out the true backstory between Odin and Urth and, by the end of this quest, get a "Demimateria of the Dark Divinity", which would be used to give to Gerolt (along with a specific head slot item and the Hjalmr) to get a special Hjalmr helm that would fit a Tank, DoW, or DoM.
It could also unlock a special battle against Odin, where the spirit of Urth comes to your aid to severely weaken the Elder Primal (Justifying an 8-man fight against an enemy that is normally fought with 60 people or more), where you could be awarded Zantetsuken-inspired weapons and maybe even a proper Sleipnir mount.
This is all just one big, random idea. Take it or leave it. I just had to get it out of my system.

I like this idea. Odin's theme has sort of gone to waste when you rarely ever see him. Making the single-piece armor into a sort of trigger item that would unlock the fight for you in DF would be a neat idea and in exchange you can do it repeatedly until you have the full armor set plus the weapons.

I do think my idea needs a fair bit of tweaking and I look forward to hearing what other folks have to say on the subject, but I think doing something like that would be the best possible way to split up the Herklaedi and tell Odin's story at the same time.Quote:

07-31-2014, 01:05 PMHakuroDKThe problem with that is because of how the glamour system is set up. The appearance of one item in one slot of armor is overridden with the appearance of another item. This is why Cowls and "Tin Can" armor aren't used in glamours often at all. Because along with taking on the appearance of that item, it also takes on all of that item's gear restrictions. If you glamour the appearance of Herklaedi onto something, then suddenly, you can't equip gear to hands, legs, or feet, even if the base gear could otherwise let you. That's largely why I came up with this idea, as a method to both be able to split up the Herklaedi as well as tell the story behind its wearer.Quote:

This is an awesome idea. I honestly felt there should have been more backstory behind Odin to begin with. Your given like one quest referencing him from Urianger and then it just drops off. Why is Odin even in the shroud is something else better elaborated on.

I think they're saving further revelations about Odin for a future patch, or possibly the 3.0 expansion. Considering they're giving us further story expansions on characters like Edda, Humbrect Longhaft, and even Spenser of the Bottomless Cup (previously known only as "the boss of that one FATE at Buscaron's place"), I doubt they've forgotten about and/or have no plans to expand further on what Odin is. Hell, didn't they talk before about how Odin taking on the appearance of the player to get the last hit on him was part of his lore?
I like the idea though. Mabinogi did something like this with the quest to unlock Dark Knight powers, but it was kinda light on story and wasn't really -that- impressive. Something having to do with the armor we got that could make it more than just an idle conversation piece would be really cool.
... and if not, could we at least get a way to make an armor stand out of it and stick it in our personal room to show off? -
