If Red Mage were in FFXIV ARR... It would be like this!

I disagree with Banish/Scourge idea.. I think it should be sword/weapon related.
Also no Drain/Aspir lol.
You really overloaded them with magic spells and neglected their true utility which is their versatility

I know you did it for fun, but those are my thoughts

Being a job that can do so many things such as heal, spell, sword, buff, debuff... meaning also gimps at many things also btw.

Like a Red Mage always was? Being capable of doing everything, at the cost of not doing it as well as dedicated jobs?

Not enough sword + magic. Too many spells and abilities, too. I can't really wrap my brain around why you'd give the job Refresh when it was the downfall of the job last time. That said, my sig, yadda yadda.

I admit that with classes being what they are, it is very difficult to make a hybrid design split evenly between melee and magic, but I personally don't want to see a return of what effectively ruined RDM for me.

Except this paradigm didn't work in FFXI because by nature MMORPGs encourage focusing on a particular role. The aesthetic and base concept of the RDM stays the same (pimp hat, sword-wielding magic user) but the mechanics and approach to the job has to be different for it to actually work.

Yes that is how my red mage always early job to use since on FF3, FF5, FF-dimension, then change them to Sage, or Devote or Magus or Summoners later end-game wise.

Mostly the response was to say that it was silly to complain about RDM ending up being not so good at things due to having access to everything, because that is how RDM has pretty much always been. I believe in FFXI it was the best at debuffs (Correct me if I am wrong), but otherwise just had general middle of hte road stats for everything else.

I would love to have a perfectly viable RDM that can do a little of everything, but I'll wait to see what comes of it.

If nothing else, I am getting it for the AF suit when it comes out.

Think about current hard end-game check point.

Okay, during the coil progression (before beat it first time). many of the cases were hard DPS check that even if a pure dps class were to be distract, die, slow down, then party would wipe. So if you replace your DPS with RDM, then wipe due to not enough DPS.

Then here come another healer check. It come as place to place where it require stoneskin and aldo +> spam cure-II, specifically in other to survive certain attack. So if you replace healer with RDM, then wipe, because RDM can't give big heal. (and they shouldn't be able to).

Then there are place where Tank need to swap between 1 and 2. If RDM fill up tank spot, then it is also a wipe.

All in all, the battle design isn't kind enough to actually have a class that do no good at anything.
If it gonna be the best debuff class or buff class, then it may have its place, but that mean SE will need to reduce their DPS check, or heal check, or stop tank swap to open up the spot to let a balance job join. Basically, if they want battle to be flexible to any class, the hard-check will need to be soften, and that mean people with pure class gonna get it pass check point easy. Therefore, to keep content hard, the design of content would need to match role specialize. If RDM doesn't specialize anything then it doesn't fit. Sure it could get specialize on buff or debuff, but that isn't what players base ask for right?

Particularly, this is why most players stop using RDM on end-game of FF3, FF5, FFD. Only class that is best on something is viable in real end-game. And it was why RDM in FF11 was design to be Refresh class. cuz it is good at nothing else!

I'll give you that. Having not been seriously doing end-game stuff (Only beat Turn 1 before the Echo buff came into play, still only beaten Garuda Ex), I don't tend to think along those lines of what would be needed on those.

Except Converting HP for MP and being able to heal in Meripo type settings. Oh and Fast Cast. Yeah. They were getting picked over WHMs regardless of healing potency because of the downtime it took for WHM's to recover MP.

I could see them fitting in RDM. God knows they didn't give BLM access to all the spells that make it BLM, and they've made WHM into a druid without the shapechanging basically.

Absolutely no offense meant by this but I don't see your idea working well at all.

Blind: Seems kind of useless. Other classes do it much better via Flash or Ruin II. If paired with a PLD or SCH it'll probably never be used. As it is, Blind isn't much of a debuff. As hit chance is all just a chance, healers have to be prepared to heal as if the attack will land. Precasting should still be done so if the hit lands the tank is patched up and if it doesn't land then the cure is still cast so there's no real gain from Blind.
Refresh: The days of the Refresh-bot come to mind. Very overpowered. BRD has to take a DPS hit to replenish MP. Needs either a high recast or a penalty of some sort.
Sacrifices: I respect the bringing back of old abilities but if you are a hybrid role, queue as a healer, get into party and have to take a hit to your own HP every time you heal someone else, wipes will happen. As long as a job can queue as a role, you have to assume that job can take on full responsibility of that role. These heals wouldn't be enough to sustain boss fights and likely not speed runs.
Elementa: As you have it, people will only use Earth and Ice depending on their party. If you have it so all of them stack (like it appears you do) then that's extremely overpowered.
Aspir: Diminishing returns in a set form like that are not only tough to program (are they on the individual monster, per encounter etc) but are not a good choice. In this game if you spam stun it will show diminishing returns but if you wait a moment you can stun again. If you have a long fight, such as an extreme primal, eventually Aspir will be junk.
Chainspell: 10 seconds of all skills being instant and off GCD is too overpowered.
Super Nova: What's this have to do with RDM?
Drain: Dark Knight's will rage.
Scourge/Banish System: It's far to similar to BLM's system. BLM you (extremely simplified) cast a couple Fires and then a couple Blizzards to get MP back. Your RDM casts a couple Banishes/Scourges and then casts a couple Scourges/Banishes. It doesn't replenish MP but would essentially have the same feel as BLM.

And finally: Where's the rapier? >_> haha

Historically BLM has focused on Fire, Thunder and Blizzard spells. Aero made its debut as White Magic.

The problem with red mage imo even if they implemented it in the game is that probably no one would want it in their party because .. Speedrun.

For me Red Mage has to be something like Cabal`s Force Blader or L2 Blade Dancer. A Support/DPS which ranged and melee attack combos, like, a pumped up Dragoon but instead of jumping back and forth, dashing, casting a few "bolts" from range then triggering a "dash" landing a few "slashes" and then triggering another dash, to literaly, rinse and repeat. And after each successful combo he triggers some passive buff to the party.
