FF 1.0 Casting Animation Concept (Late patch)

Hello SE,

Would it be plausible in the future to give us a toggle again to hide our weapons when casting spells, or perhaps a glamour to do so?

I recall towards the end of 1.0 you enabled the ability for casters to cast with their weapon hidden and it was one of the coolest things I'd seen on an MMORPG.

I know this is also something Monks are interested in too.

ps.

I also -really- miss the Stoic casting animation GLA/PLD's had (which was really just the same as CNJ/WHM at the time) wherein the GLA would place his/her blade broadside to their face and appear to be "praying".

Why not bring all of 1.0 animations and peace? I really miss it.

Please no. If by 'coolest' you mean 'dumbest,' then sure. It made casters look like they were bored, just standing around in fights while violence occurred all around them while occasionally waving their hands around. It looked absolutely stupid.

Now, if they could keep their weapon hidden but still be in some sort of readied combat stance, I think that would be fine.

PS3 limitations.

It was more that you could cast without pulling the weapon.
Hide weapon + not pulling weapon while casting = weapon is still hide on the back while casting
So, yes. The toogle is already ingame. Only that we pull now automatic the weapon while casting, that make the weapon visible.

yet i agree with him, standing idle during a fight just made you look like you didn't gave a damn about the fight, the animation would have been good if you were still in a fighting stance even without your weapon like rogue said.

(tho it did looked good on pld with their sword)

I just imagined a bunch of SCH and SMN standing around without books but our hands raised like we're running around just waiting to slap things...

It made you look cool and calm, not just careless, just my opinion. Oh and i also hate the PLD casting animation we have now... a glowing ball in the tip of the sword... it's just disgusting.

Wouldn't work for all the caster classes though. Scholars casting animation is based around their tomes.Would look awfully silly without their tomes showing during the cast.

Then at least keep the staff in one hand, because fighting without your weapon is.... Not natural.

Wait a sec you mean there are still paladins in game?! ;P

If I recall it wasn't so much an "option" as a "fix" due to the rats nest of code, that you couldn't cast without going into "active mode" (drawing) and this canceled mp regen, and it was the best fix they could do at the time. As even after they changed it drawing your weapon as a Mage stopped auto mp regen but you could now auto attack, but you didn't have to draw your weapon to cast.

Aha, you're right. It was even more lame than I made it sound. I watch videos of fights from 1.0 and.. yeah. It looks like the casters aren't even involved. They stand there, completely idle, a lot of the time with their backs turned to the fight. They never move. Every so often they move a little bit and a spell goes off. It's... bizarre and looked really bad.

Admittedly, due to lore, it wouldn't work for Arcanists, Scholars, or Summoners, since their power comes from the geometric patterns and formulae in their books.

Cool and calm? It made you look like you were completely uninterested and not even involved or personally invested in the fight.

I do agree that the PLD casting animation could be more like the old one, but I like the glowing sword tip; it makes it seem that the Paladin is focusing their magic through their weapon.
