QUICK! Bring back chocobo escort and hamlet defense!

With the mess that the hunt system is currently in, other forms of open world content with similar rewards should be introduced. namely Chocobo Escort quests and Hamlet Defense.

The biggest problem with the hunts is that currently it is the only form of content that rewards allied seals, and over rewards myth and soldiery. This leads to the zerging of elite marks and all the drama that comes with it.

If there were other forms of content that rewarded allied seals, and BALANCED myth/soldiery rewards players wouldn't gravitate to one form of content over the other.

Escorts could be on scheduled timers (staggered by zone) and hamlet defense could be either dynamic or timer dependent for spawn, but let them over lap with hunt spawn timers.

Present players with a choice over multiple forms of content that gives similar BALANCED rewards.

I will ignore the rant about Hunts (I think they are cool), and focus on the other matters of the thread.

Chocobo escort is already in the game in the form of FATE, and Hamlet defense somehow too, but if I recall correctly it was stated that they were reworking the Hamlet to introduce it in the game again, so that might happen in a future patch or expansion.

Also, I think with the current amount of players, having each chocobo escort limited to just 8 people like it was back then, would cause even more grief and drama than what hunts actually cause, as it already caused drama when they were introduced. You had to be freaking fast to click on the NPC on time or you would lose your spot on one run, then you had to wait 15 mins for the next caravan and another chance to click it.

I'd love to see hamlet return and see crafters, gatherers and fighters working together again to defend a position from an attack, but I don't know how would work with the current direction Yoshi is taking the game.

Make both Hamlet defence and chocobo escort work like FATE, difficulty is dynamic based on how maybe people currently occupy the "bubble" don't place resitrctions on participation.

And screw 1.0 hamlet defense. That was the worst, even more so than the cluster that in the hunt.

Just make waves of mobs after mob attack with a large boss at the end. none of that crafter crud.

There are already FATEs like that as Dannythm mentioned - Attack on Highbridge springs to mind. And there are plenty of 'escort the npc from point to another' FATEs around as well - in fact, they're also found in Battlecraft levequests too. Really, your ideas are already in the game, you just have to look for them to find them. ;)

None of them are specialized systems though, nor really offer you...anything. The "Hamlet Defense" one doesn't let me participate as my DoH/DOL like it did in 1.x.

Indeed the content is in, but his point is not that the content exist but to make more content have this reward; the infamous allied seals so that people stop zerging hunts, some dont even like doing hunts, they just do so because they want their sands/oil, which is kind of sad.

so yes, the content exist, but the reward does not. :)

on a side note, the title of this thread is somewhat misleading.

Yes, because every MMO needs more 'escort' content.... >.<

Actually.... they are the FATE in some of the places. Upper La Norsea is one of the places.

Hamlet defense would work out very well if it was designed very large scale. Like 24 player hamlet. 1 Party DPS, 1 Party DoH, 1 Party DoL.
Also cant make it a fate or becomes unbalanced. Better yet could make a new frontlines zone where DoL & DoH could try to gather/craft and buff there team.

Skirmish is what I would like to see again :)

I would personally like to see these brought back if they were tweaked and improved a bit. I miss having content where crafters and gatherers actually had to party up and perform unique roles.

Hamlet defense was brilliant, and seems like it would be so much easier to get groups for it with duty finder / party finder. I enjoyed it a lot in 1.0, but in hindsight it could be because that's all there was to do really... xD

In all seriousness, I would love to see it come back, but can't see it happening.

I've been waiting since 2.0, hoping I could continue it. So far, nothing. :p

I'd love to see Hamlet defense but since the Garlians magically don't exist anymore once you complete the story... <_<

Just do escort how it was during 1.0. Let the next begin 10 minutes after the current escourt end. And there should be a limit of 8 participants each escort round (they don't need to be in a party). Maybe also doing it that you need to wait 30 minutes to join the next escort after finishing one, so that not the same people do it again and again and other people can also join, like they did with behest.

Garleans never attacked the hamlets. It was the beastmens. Goblins attacked Aleport, Ixals attacked Hyrstmill and the Amalj'aa attacked Golden Basar.

Escort FATEs are ingame, where you need to protect an NPC. But I never saw a Chocobo escort FATE, where you need to protect Chocobos, feed them if they take dmg and comfort them if they are in panik. Where they can lose bags and you get less points if not all bags get delivered.

If people want Choobo escort, they want it like it was in 1.0, like a mini-game. Not like a FATE with no control or tactic.

looks like a lot of people are missing the point.

The problem isn't the content but the reward, currently, hunt is the only thing that gives allied seals, thus people zerg it (déja vu?)

indeed but that is not the problem, the thing is everyone talks about how annoying these contents were but not even mentioning the problem of the reward.

and no I don't want easier ways to obtain the rewards, if you are talking about me Dannythm, I dont really give a damn about allied seal because the reward isn't worth the hassle imo.
the 110 gear will soon be replaced so i dont see the point in farming for sands and oils, I join my friend's party every now and then because i'm bored and dont have anything else to do these days, otherwise i just ignore hunt, it's boring and the reward is not worth it, again.

so no, again, I don't want the reward to be easier to obtain, but I do think that having only one content giving it is not really a good idea.


now, because I know that my english is far from being perfect, i did re-red the op, same conclusion; every single statement of his contains the same thing; asking for multiple ways to obtain the allied seals.
His motive is totally irrelevant to me, be it having fun hunting monsters without a horde of players or just to have easier ways to obtain seals, the fact is, I agree that having only one content giving this kind of reward can only lead to zerg rush.

You and many others are free to enjoy hunt as it is just as i and many others are free not to enjoy zerg rushes

Edit: Again, in case you're talking about me, if i wanted easy seals, I wouldn't mention making different content with the reward, breaking the zerg chain would only make hunts more difficult to spot and kill ( it wouldn't take 2 seconds anymore) since it would actually make it harder to get seals.
The reason i'm playing this game is for fun, not reward, i wouldn't mind huntmobs taking 10 mins to defeat for the same reward if it actually was fun.

I leveled up some of my DoH classes with Chocobo escort (changing to a DoH class short before the finish line) and Ifrit HM (changing to a DoH class before reporting to Louisoix to get the exp)

I was with you until you said no more crafters in Hamlet Defense. Having the waves of mobs followed by a boss in a FATE already exists (Highbridge and Dark Devices come to mind), but DoL/DoH could definitely use some content like 1.0 Hamlet Defense.
