Hunts are a problem

I know that there are other threads out there discussing Hunts and normally I'm not one to jump in on these types of conversations, but I'm seriously worried and annoyed right now. Hunts are ruining this game and I realize this now after reading this reddit thread:

In particular, comments like this: "While i wish i could be clearing Ramuh and participating in Frontlines. The rewards coming out of Hunts are just too good to pass up."


I see it happening on my server. People are ignoring all other content, making it nearly impossible to get a group to do anything else, all because they're obsessed with The Hunt. That is bad enough, but the fact that everyone is doing The Hunt makes it impossible for casual players to actually get anywhere with it. That was the intent of The Hunt, right, to give casual players an alternate way to gear up? Well that's backfired because the hardcore players have created groups of hundreds that swarm any Mark the moment it's up and thus makes it impossible for casual players to actually get anything out of it. Even with the buff to their health, you're lucky if you get a hit or two in. That's not even mentioning how hostile people have gotten over them. I've seen more fights in the past two weeks than I have all year.


It's a problem and one that can be solved by either Square Enix or ourselves.

Square Enix: please please please nerf them. Either take the Oils and other high level things out of the rewards we can get or make it so Elite Marks spawn at a significantly decreased rate (like one every hour or two) or make it so you have a daily or weekly cap on the seals you can get. Something, anything. By creating such an easy alternative to everything else in the game, people are doing only this and ignoring everything else.

Community: Chill out. Try the other things in the game already. I was baffled on Patch Day when people weren't bothering to unlock Ramuh or the new dungeons because they were spending all day waiting for Hunts to pop. There's a lot of great and fun content in this game, ease up on the Hunts and enjoy some of it. Get some Leviathan EX farming parties going, do some new dungeon runs, try to clear Ramuh EX, make a new static for Coil 2, do SOMETHING. This game shouldn't be all about getting the most stats the fastest. Especially since at this point we all know everyone else is doing it, someone needs to back away for the sanity of all.

People are not going to back off the easiest way to get what they want. Seeing how bare bones the story based content in this game is, SE seems to favor those types of players. That's just the way its always going to be. People are always going to take the easy road.

Yes, and it's up to SE to stop them whether those people like it or not.

This is brand new stuff. Of course everyone is gonna be doing it. I don't know about others, but I don't even want sands and oils unless I happen to get log drops. I'm buying the cool stuff like minions and armor because I can get oil and sands in ST and Coil, both which I still play along with my daily dungeons.

Unfortunately you are the minority.

If they would just increase the daily rewards I'd be happy. I don't want to be a part of the zerg, but I would like to participate in the hunt enough to get rewards, but 7 a day is a slap in the face.

I know that, which is why I'm hoping Square Enix does one of the three things I suggest to them or at least something else. Still, if they don't, then it's going to be up to the community to step away from Hunts a bit. Even if the majority won't do it, if at least a few people do and start getting the other content flowing maybe a few will splinter off and SOME life can be brought back to the rest of the game.

They underestimate the popularity of The Hunt. They think only a few will do it and will take a long time to get The Sand. It is there to fill in for Game Content before the next patch.

Boy are they wrong. Not only people are able to get it way too fast, but big LS and FC are trying to monopolize the area and only get it for themself. Literally everyone is out there to try and get Ally Seal because the Reward is way too high.

Literally right now, Party Finder is pretty much Empty. Before The Hunt, will you occasionally see Primal Party Finder, Fates Party, Dungeon Party, even ScoB Party. But right now, you only few a few, and most of them are The Hunt. I think the game just shot itself in the foot and here it went down hill.

But I'm in the smart minority. Because once you realize that this Ilvl will soon be obsolete again, you'll kick yourself for wasting all those marks on old content.

Ramuh's new too, it's clearly all about the effort vs the reward, especially after the hotfix on Ramuh.

This is really one of the alternate progression players have been screaming for and what was originally promised by Yoshi-P. He promised multiple ways to upgrade your ilvl gear and weapons iirc. Then when everyone found out it was only upgradable from coil, they were like um, wtf. But now we have multiple ways as it was intended. It's unfortunate that it is creating a lack of players for other content, but that will pass, likely sooner then later. Sense it is really easy to get a lot of the gear people have been waiting for. My only concern is later once most people have what they need, will it become like fates, and will the S class's be impossible to beat like Gorgi is over at North Thanalan? Well I kind of take that back, because if you want to beat that fate I believe you could probably shout and/or PF and get enough people to kill it. As long as they keep feeding new gear into notes NPC, people will still be around to do the hunts.

So basically: people are sick and tired of anything that instanced. And here they have a chance to break away from the boring daily queuing for another ID that locks you out for another 15-30 minutes.

Mob Hunt doesn't ruin the game, it just shows what people wanted all this time, the open world content that is worth your time.

P.S I have to agree though, that the Elite Marks should be tougher and make more window for other players to participate

I don't think you are right, exactly. It's not that everyone doing The Hunt just wanted worthwhile content in the open world, it's that they want the fastest way to the high level gear. As seen in the Reddit thread I linked to that made me want to make this thread, there are lots of people that would be doing the other new content, but the mentality of focusing on Hunts prevents them from doing so.

Additionally, it's just too easy to gear up now. Having alternative methods is fine, I love The Hunt in theory, but it's too easy right now and the hostility that has been created from it isn't worth it (people being harassed for using the system as intended, people using third-party apps to cheat, constant bickering). The more I talk about it on here the more convinced I am that they need to put some kind of daily or weekly limit on how many seals you can get or how often you can get any kind of rewards from Hunts.

Yep, I agree completely. As I said in another thread, it was meant to give more casual non-raiders a way to improve their characters, yet all it's done has helped "the rich get richer."

IMO the people complaining are the ones with a very comfortable static. Even dare to voice their complain on getting same loot from coil every week and rubbing it on casual players.just OUT-RAGEOUS.

To me I wouldn't call the items you get from hunting are EASY, to me are more like accessible to get. You still need to GRIND for hours to get 750 seals (which is probably 7 or 8 hours straight) Plus remember you are up against 22k users per server? you will lose marks constantly. Is not like I log in do a dungeoun and tadah! I got all seals!! You will miss marks and etc. People are quick to complain....

If there's something that needs fixing is the amount of seals you get per daily hunt from 1 to 10.

Fates:
-Mostly of the time level sync you so the monsters don't die in 10 seconds
-Adjust difficulty based on how many people killed the last one
-You can almost always earn full credit even if you arrive late
-Rewards a couple seals and some gil

Hunt:
-No level sync so you kill a monster with your overgeared i90+ character and can use every single skill
-Difficulty never changes
-You rarely receive full credit unless you got there first in a full party
-Rewards seals that can be exchanged for upgrades to end game gear

Nope. I haven't even beaten Turn 5, let alone stepped foot into Second Coil. I shouldn't be able to go get ilvl110 gear with zero effort. You're also missing the point that it's not even the casual non-static players who are benefiting from this. Hunts are being abused by the elite and making it impossible for them to get anything out of it. This is hurting the casual or slower players in two ways. It's taking players out of Coil so there are less people to help them get in there, and it's causing all the hardcore players to gather up on the Hunts and exclude those casual or slower players from it.

As others have said in this thread as well, this is only benefiting the already hardcore players. Especially when they start cheating by using third-party apps and starting fights or harassment when someone else actually gets lucky enough to find a Hunt before them. It's a mess out there and a limit on the Seals you can get per day or week is really badly needed to put a stop to it.

The two biggest issues are that Ramuh is largely irrelevant in player progression at this point; he drops a sexy ring to be sure, and is great as a source of i100 weapons with no weekly limit, but in the face of i110 weapon and gear readily available from the hunt, he falls to the wayside. Second issue is how many people are gated from him by Mog because Mog didn't drop a reward many people had an interest in at the time.

You can really only blame square enix for giving the new primal, the face of their patch--such a weak reward in face of the other content they added in.

I'm all for running content for fun and challenge, but finding groups for him right now is like pulling teeth, and it's hard to convince many of my friends to run him because, well, hunts.

I personally only run hunts in the dead of night and the break of dawn. Any other time and it's just too stressful and too much of a drama fest.

I too, who have complaints about the hunts, have not beaten T5 nor ever set foot in second coil. I thought this would be a normal, non-static crazed way to get a few upgrades to my soldiery gear.

So, far after a week of particpating in hunts, I'm sitting on 166 seals, while I see hardcore raiders zerging every hunt possible, and walking around in 4-6 pieces of upgraded gear and weapons.

Are you solo? Have you joined a hunt ls?

While I hate the system there's literally 0 advantage being "hardcore raiders" in hunts. All you do is sit in a random zone "hunting" (While in actuality your working on your animus books ^_^) in a full hunt group. And when your LS or one of theirs does a <pos> you port wherever they say and follow the crowd. Soon as its pulled do things and huzzah.

Being a healer makes it easy mode btw. poke it once (aero is a good one for sch and whm since it has front loaded dmg so even if there is no room for the dot you will still hit it) then spam group heals until it's dead.

I think the problem is Ramuh is deceptively difficult. People think it's easier than Leviathan or Titan because you don't fall off...but I've beaten titan with someone eating dirt below but even 1 death in Ramuh right now will cause a wipe because the lack of DPS will not get you past the ads phase. Without voice chat its very difficult and your group has to be a perfectly coordinated marching band to clear it on top of having well geared DPS. Our group with an average ilvl of 96 had a very hard time and we've yet to clear it. I haven't even dont any real hunts (i've yet to see an S rank) but I don't feel like going back to Ramuh until my ilvl goes up to 100 at least.

Of course we can agree to disagree, but that doesn't mean I won't respond when I do disagree. So long as this thread stays civil, I'm fine hearing from both sides.

2.4 is in 3-4 months, I don't really consider that "round the corner". I don't want to put up with 4 months of this nonsense.

Can we please stop calling for a cap on allied seals? Capping them now will only provide an advantage to those that have been grinding them for the last week. Sands/oils are only as useful as the gear they can be applied to. The availability of this gear is already capped. If you have nothing of relevance to purchase what point is there to grinding out seals?

Think long term, those that are burning through this to "catch up" on their upgrades will be done soon enough, and will have little incentive to continue to do it.

Consider that most people doing hunts already have full soldiery gear already.

Which is exactly my point. They are going to finish their upgrades and not bother with hunts until they buy their next piece of soldiery for an alt, of which they can buy 1 per week.

Not to mention capping seals would put a cap on vanity gear. That doesn't make any sense...

If you want to cap something, cap the number of sands/oils you can buy, or remove them from this vendor.

I think that's looking at it too idealistically. It's not hard to get Soldiery now so people are always going to want to farm this until soldiery/oils is no longer useful and that's not going to be another 4 months at the least, 7-8 months more likely.

Yes, I'm actually a member of one fairly large one, and a member of a new, smaller hunt LS.

I'll give you an example. Last night, the locations were being called out about every 5-10 minutes. Every single time, I immediately ported to where the LS's called the monster out. Exactly twice, I was quickly able to join a group and get credit. Every other time, the moster was obliterated before I arrived at the scene.

But it won't be obsolete right away. Even when 2.4 hits and new Coil and Tome items come out, you won't be decked out in the right away. You still have the lockout on Coil and the weekly Tome Limit. i110 stuff, ie the stuff people are chasing like rabid dogs, will still be valid for a while AFTER 2.4.

Well...why do Ramuh? The rewards are only i100 compared to i110 of hunts and SCoB. Hunts are ruining the game because it's like applying this to Labyrinth of The Ancients. Are people not doing that because of hunts? No, it's because the loot is old and useless in comparison to the newer gear available.

Hunt is not a new thing, it is someone who brought mindlessly from FFXI. Even in FFXI, they nerfed it finally (make the NMs trigger spawned), I am in HNM LS FFXI, we have the best gears, a lot of money that jacked up the price of everything (inflation is insane), monopolized 90% rare drops (for selling), have the most relic and mystic weapons (bcoz of having money), but we have only a few friends (HNM LSs view other HNM LS as competitors and the ordinary player viewed us as monopoly)!

Providing an alternative way to progress as SE intended, daily hunt and force spawned weekly hunt is more than enough, why have the players playing this win-lose game. Player plays the game for fun but not learning life lessons!

The biggest mistake was putting i100 gear rewards in every single new activity...

Except the Hunt.

The solution, without damaging the viability of the hunt, is to dissipate players into other activities by giving THOSE activities i110 rewards. This isn't rocket science and I don't know why people don't understand that. Split the playerbase, hunts become more viable, casual people who don't want to hunt don't have to hunt.
