This is what you call combat?

I deleted my old character and started a new one to try out the new combat and see how long it managed to keep my attention with a brand new slate. I went with a lancer.. and after making it to rank 4... i'm done.

Before you have to attack something you need to be in active mode.. Okay, sure, why not. Seems sort of tedious to actually have to switch to it as opposed to just attack, but i suppose there is a reason for it. If anything it just adds to the clunky UI and lack of immersion of combat. Alright, hit a mob twice with auto attack.. then use skewer. Rinse and repeat. Every 10 seconds you have can use your "special" lackluster graphics crap skill. Bet it gets a lot cooler when you can spam 2 skills instead... probably not. Sure i could keep playing, get other abilities, level other classes... but what is the point? I'm already bored with this concept, i thought they'd make the game more enjoyable. But in the end its just another waste of time for a game that just needs to die.

I agroed multiple mobs and having to target a new one after killing one just made me realize how bad the combat system is. Now instead of spamming a basic attack skill we spam out "special" attacks that all have the same animation. I really don't see too much of a change.

Bottom line, the combat sucks. Maybe its better when you grouped up fighting a big NM later on, or in a dungeon. But who cares about that when you have to force yourself to play a game that is so bland any other F2P game is better?

Guess i'm done. I paid $70 and waited nearly a year for a game to play. And this is what SE has made. Congrats SE, you took a guy who started loving square the moment he first borrowed final fantasy for the NES and has been a supporter for years to someone who is likely never buying a SE title again.

Unfortunately you are correct...and it won't get much better later on. This battle system left the game in a very complicated situation. Hopefully we will be having a balancing patch next week.

I know complete overhaul of animations is in 1.19 but this is way too specious. Also, complaining this game is a special attack spam, well, you should consider every mmorpg in the world is like take: "use this rotation and everything will go well".
Btw, some animation are already been changed, obliusly you don't see it at rank 4, when you have 3 abilities <_<

If you don't like the idea to push a button to enter in active mode then attack, it's a your problem, sorry.

Let's start by 1.18 was the first step in the Auto attack / dungeon then you have 1.19 which brings new stuff for crafting and i hoping they can put part of the Auto attack fix in the patch. 1.20 would bring Jobs which would be party base this mean. A: you no longer do 8 man dungeon with class you do them with jobs if you have less players like 2-4 people it's ok to use class to make up for the lost of man power with class due to class being allow to hybrid while jobs can't hybrid spell that don't fit there job base.

let's hope it get better and they can get this game done before the 1year mark.

The player base of this game is very small because only a minor number of people enjoy what it was. It is entering a new era where hopefully it will win players back. I know from reading other forums that enjoy challenges etc that people seem happier with the updates and battle system.

If these are the people (OP type) that the game has to lose to become bigger, better and more popular then so be it. I can't imagine the OP has played many MMOs..

I really don't understand what the big fuss is about. FFXIV for PC is pretty much a Beta version of the future. That being said, us players are to blog or comment on how the content is doing and if there are bugs SE can certainly fix them. This game is theirs to make, not ours. All we can do is implement our ideas/suggestions so SE can modify the info to make it their own. I hope that makes sense.
FFXIV is getting better and better (yes, with the exceptions of hick-ups here and there). We just need to keep giving SE feedback so they can improve the game that much more. Can't help them out if some of us are all up in arms and quitting for an invalid reason. Not very informational or mature for that matter. Besides, if one wants to comment on a forum about gameplay, best play the game further than just level 4, and also keeping the maturity level higher than a low Rank....

Yep, you can really judge a game's combat system within the first 4 levels. I can't believe that this is really a serious complaint...lol

Combat, at a level where you actually have different abilities to choose from, is actually quite fun. Sure it still needs tweaking (1.18 was said to be BASIC battle system adjustments after all..) but if you give your self more time than just 4 levels worth (lolsrsly??) I think you will adapt to it rather quickly.

If you're really quitting over 4 levels worth of combat, the quickest and least strategic levels of the game mind you, then have fun playing your next MMO for another 4 levels before complaining about that too. You won't be missed, I promise.

Other MMO's have had active/passive modes just like XIV does. The implementation is just better in other games that I've seen. It will just basically be turn auto attack on or off and if you use a skill to start attacking then active mode is trigger for you and passive mode is triggered for you as well when an enemy is defeated and no other mobs are attacking you.

That aside, you can't judge combat based off 4 levels of an MMO. All games I've tried are pretty dull in the first couple of levels.

Also, IMO the dude has the right to judge the game by the 4 ranks he played...every person has his own "trial period"...if he's willing to discard his game after 4 ranks, its a decision as fair as those that are still playing, waiting for it to become better.

Its up to each person decide for how long he can endure the game.

Its lame paying 80 dollars for a beta isn't it? I guess not so bad when people in China paid more to beta Age of Wulin. The average person can buy this game for under $25 dollars now. Were my hermes shoes and onion helm + choice or beta/xi server last name worth 80 dollars?

So you are using two skills instead of potentially dozens, and you are complaining combat is slow? Were you expecting to get all your skills at a low level?

Yes, that's true, when you're considering things like art style, graphics, community, lore, UI, etc, etc. But it takes longer than the first 4 levels to see what a game's battle system is made of.

Pretty much this.

The OP had decided the game was fail before playing it. rank 4 is less then 30mins of game play... honestly if he leveled more then class he would have over a half a dozen abilities.

You can not know if you will like a mmo for the first week, let alone the first hour. Anyone who says other wise simply doesn't have a clue how mmos work.

Atm the AA in the XIV is not different then any other big hit mmo out there. Start with few attacks, have a sorta lame AA, get more attacks and abilities as you level.

The AA in XIV has a larger role to over-all DPS than in other MMO's.

I honestly can't take your post serious. I understand you points, and trust me I know about being bored with the game... But 4 ranks? Really? I can get to rank 10 within 20 minutes of playing... Please, give the game a bit more time, not everything perfect, especially this patch... BUT it's a huge step towards what I want to see out of this game!

Did you group up with anybody? Have you done the new raids yet?
I didn't give up on XIV until combat had a major overhaul and that's exactly what they delivered. Yeah, it may be a bit bugged out in some spots but it comes with time to tweaking a game that pretty much failed.

I'm actually playing and so is a lot of other people that have finally logged back in. I can see that it saved the game. Your impatience to ranking up, actually grouping with others, and too quick to judge something radically different than what was before has bit you in the arse...

So long, you probably won't be missed :/

How so? Because of the TP mechanic?

Until everyone gets a good feeling for this game, a lot of time will pass.

There's a lot of stuff to fix to make the whole gameplay more fluently. Most of the abilites need an overhaul regarding the animations. But that will come towards 1.19. They even changed a lot of animations. If you compare Stoneskin in Beta vs. Stoneskin now (still Beta *yoink*) there's a nice difference.

The animations need more diversifikation, badly. But again that will come. So your 2 abilites you can use at rank 4 will look more different. And actually getting new skills will be a blast since you gonna be like "ohhh emmm geeee, how's that new skill gonna beeeeee?"

I remember when I lvl'd SCH in FFXI I couldn't stop using the grimoires because it was looking so cute & awesome when that little book appeared, was speedreading thru it and *whoosh*.

Just give it more time and the game will look better and "feel" better.

All you had to do is get a extra free character slot....
