They've been left untouched for the time being.
As far as I know, no change has been made to drop rate. For me it still took me 6 weeks to get my second atma drop, and I've been trying to get my 3rd since then and doing fates at least 1-2hours each day after work still with no luck, but someone in my LS got 7 atmas in a day so...its as random as ever.
We've got hunts to complain about now. Atmas are annoying, but they were never fundamentally game-breaking the way hunts are.
It isn't that we are satisfied with the atma grind. It's just there isn't a whole lot to talk about and we've all said our piece on that matter. It's pretty much unanimous that the atma grind is a lopsided and unfair grind that rewards some more than others, not to mention requires far too much time to complete. Yoshida's open world grinds are taking far too many cues from FFXI and not enough from other good games (or good Final Fantasy titles, for that matter. FFXII did a better job with hunts than the current FFXIV iteration).
They only made Animus like 2x easier, Atma was left untouched.
Well thanks for the tips guys. Guess I still cant make them progress their weapons then.
Sort of, the forum mods have been really busy today locking and deleting threads that deal with the hunts and the negativity they bring. They aren't getting all of them, but at the time I posted this, the only thread on the front page dealing with hunts is titled "Hunts are Great!" Now if only the the GMs in game would get as busy dealing with the crap as the forum mods are trying to hide the issues.
Ah sorry I did miss one negative hunt post, at the time this was posted, but it's about to roll to the second page.
$!(%Y!(^!)^*~! ATMA. I decided to try to progres and I've must have done over like 60 fates already and not a SINGLE atma. Not a piece. I say 60 at least because I'm sure I've done a lot more. Feels like I can rejoin FFXI and get a Dynamis Relic faster than this.
I am now trying to get my second atma wep... After 2 hours of farming, got 2 of them - so seems like the same drop rate as previously.
I thought it had been increased too. I went a few weeks without a drop pre-patch. Post-Patch, got 7 in 2 days. Now i'm back to farming my last 2 areas for 3 days now and counting.
THREE MORE TO GO!
Oh my god am I the only one STILL doing this?!
I swear yesterday someone in coil scoffed "look he's still wielding bravura lol!"
You know it's not like it's up to me when the damn things are going to drop or not regardless of how many weeks I've now spent in the remaining zones!
The fact that YOU got lucky does not mean it's reasonable to expect everyone can win the lottery.
Oh i feel ya Seif. I hate this atma crap. Insert the usual "oh there are alternatives" crap arguments etc. I'm doing this because i want it, i do also want the alternatives, and i will get them. In fact when i finish with the mindless drool inducing crap that is this RNG, i'm going back to kicking the crap out of extremes and coil just for that very reason lol.
2 to go, was on a roll for a few days there, but back to fervently praying every time i do a fate and hoping to get the bloody atma. Sort it out square, this many posts and threads on this shocking system can't go ignored forever.
(on a side note, a friend started his atma last night, got 3 atma in 3 hours, including one in a zone i've spent days on with nothing happening. Fair? lol.)
I started recording exactly how much time it takes me to get my Atma (my last 7 on my SCH took 19 hours, 21 minutes). The way I'm recording is I set the time I start and count all the time in between, hitting every single fate I can make it to. That means watching the map like hawk. I'll update when I finish collecting the next 10 for Ninja Atma (currently at 2/12 with 1h43m elapsed).
My husband and myself both just finished out atma grind.. won't be touching it for a second weapon any time soon. I'd love to encourage my FC mates to do the same but well.. ST drops the items needed for the weathered weapons. xP
Most people have either completely given up on it or are currently grinding for Novus.

I feel your pain. I've complained about this and, my Thread was taken down already
Was doing atma grind last night. Got two fairly quick (within an hour). Then tried my luck in Upper La Noscea. Spent 4 hours and only missed MAYBE 3 fates because they were on opposite sides, and not 1 drop. Is it just Upper La Noscea that has this poor drop rates? Or have I just been super unlucky?
Thesis: ATMA hunting needs to be improved.
Supporting facts:
- Some players get them in a reasonable period, some do not. It is mathematically gauranteed to make some players spend vastly longer amounts of time. This disparity is then multiplied x12.
- Two of my friends spent one hour farming Atmas and then quit FF. I have not seem them since. They said specifically that a game with that kind of system is not for them.
- Hunting level 2-10 FATES is a poor reward for leveling up to 50 and collecting higher level gear.
- SE has not addressed this issue and actively deletes threads that criticize it. You know you have a problem when you have to repeatedly censor criticism. It hasn't gone away, has it?
Posting here is this least I can do to make sure SE still know that Atma will continue to damage the population of FFXIV until it is fixed.
All that is needed is a hard cap to how many FATES you can complete before you get a drop.
I wish they would take more cues from XI pre-2007. Would add some much needed challenge to this Care Bear Land we call Eorzea. I for one hope one day SE finds the guts to be different that they used to have so we can have a game that isnt a shinier version of WoW.
Now that we can get an i110 weapon in 1 week if you have enough SLD (UAT from CT2 + sand from hunts ... i had both 3 days after patch):
can we please, please, PLEASE buff the atma drop rate!?
The rest of the quest is long and expensive enough, the atma requirement is just unnecessary at this point
If they cant do coil, just ST(aka CT2) til tomestone drop, hunt for sands, get 1300 soldiery and SHAZAM! i110 weap

Finally finished regrinding all Atma;
Total Time: 22h18m
Total fates: 361+*
*Forgot to record number of fates for first two.
1st atma set for MNK took an ungodly amount of time nearly 2 months of off and on. Got the last one 4 days before E3 announcement of Ninja (which i wanna main) and spent them on MNK relic. I swore never again. 4 days later they announced NIN for 2.4. I wanted to *headesk* my self into a coma. But on Monday of this week i said what tha hay...i have 3 months to get a 2nd set why not at least start now....getting Atma of the Goat 1st (which took the longest my 1st set) fairly quick this time around. Becoming obsessed w/ getting all 12 again i got the last one tonight. so 5ish days of constant FATEs and determination. Now im the proud owner of 12 new shiney atma that will sit in my retainer waiting for 2.4, all b/c i did not give up. Keep at it, ull never know when ur luck will turn for the good.
Maybe they could add an item for seals that gives a small boost to drop rates for Atma... 10k GC seals or something like that for a 5% boost. You still end up having to farm FATEs, but it could make the whole process seem less arduous, and after you've been in 1 area long enough to farm 10k seals, it would at the very least make people feel more optimistic about it all.
Yeah, it sucks just as much as before, but there's not much new to say. I had not even bothered for a long time and started to farm just before 2.3 patch and have noticed no difference. I've had an Atma take 8 hours of solid farming, another was 30 min. (these are all "doing fates as fast as possible")
My average time per drop is about 4 hours. 48 hours of Fates....
I'm actually looking forward to the books. Grindy, but far less RNG aspect.
