Does anyone know where the Waterproof Cotton can be obtained?
I'd guess at unhidden map drop, like the chinchilla hide, mariner cloth etc that drops from normal ones.
I'm looking for this cotton as well, and at this point I really doubt it comes from Unhidden Maps. None ever dropped for me, and what's more, there are none to be found at all on Behemoth's market board.
This is in contrast to Polarized Glass and Mist Silk, both of which can be, albeit expensive, found on the market in fairly decent amounts. And both of those I've gotten from Unhidden maps.
Really beginning to wonder whether this material is currently to be found in the game at all, not a single one having found its way on to the market seems kind of crazy no matter how rare it were to be.
I'm starting to think all the summery gear isn't available, including the material to make the coeurl beach wear.
Heard through the grapevine that someone had one drop in an unhidden map here on Brynhildr. I've done a few and haven't seen it, so I can't personally confirm it, but my source is quite reliable.
wish a dev would come in and say like they did with taffeta and light steel. none have shown up on levis MB and i've done quite a few unhidden maps with no luck.
Well I know at least the sea breeze bottoms are in game cause there is one of each gender up on my server. Don't know where they came from though cause there is no signature on them so maybe that and the coral one aren't crafted?! O.o
I really want the coeurl print one tho grrr >_<
I think it's just a very crappy drop rate like for all the other mats. It took me over 60 goatskin maps to get 4 Blue Fox Hides for the full Highland set, and now I'm at 22 Boarskin Maps and not a single Mariner's cotton has dropped as of yet.
Really don't know why SE thinks lv1 aesthetic gear must be so hard to get, especially when the players who care about glamour are usually the casuals, who don't do this content often.
I'm pretty sure the way to get this is to run around town spam shouting that you want to buy 2 of them for 30k each in broken English.
I've managed to find 3 unhidden maps so far. All 3 had polarized glass and misc cheaper stuff drop from them. Sigh
Have done 7 unhidden maps so far and not seen one :\
Always Mist Silk + Polarized glass.
Was hoping someone on my server would've figured it out by now but theres still no sign of it on Market Board :\
I thought Waterproof Cotton was from Retainer XIV Ventures? It'll stink if it's limited to a specific class, like BTN or FSH... I haven't tried it yet since my best retainer is only ilvl 74. Too bad you can't gear them up with myth left side pieces!
Still none of these found on Behemoth as far as I'm aware.
I did however have a horrible thought. The Sea Breeze set, obtained form desynthing Big Fish, is starting to pop up here and there. These Sea Breeze pieces can, themselves, be desynthesized.
Maybe a possible result from doing so would be the Waterproof Cotton?
I hope not. It would be quite insane to require a person to level and gear Fisher, Culinarian desynth, and Weaver desynth to be able to obtain this item themselves.
Devs please D: i've been fishing non stop for gigantsharks for this sea breeze top so i can desynth it for science. Please just tell us so we can live in peace and finally put this mystery to rest!
For looting the Waterproof Cotton, you need to fish only the Octomammoth "Gigapoulpe in french" big fish 2 stars green in Limsa city ^^
But after for desynch it, good luck with the crapy % of result ...
11 desynch of Gigashark and Octo, and no one of the new bleu top or Waterproof cotton ^^
It wouldn't surprise me if everything swimwear related was from fishing. Fishers are going to be extremely wealthy from this patch.
I haven't seen anyone even mention the Coronal Summer Halter/Red Summer Pareo, or the Tei Leaf Lei/Red Summer Maro yet... I wonder if those are also from fish?
Bah i try this week ^^
well friend and i desynthed our first swimsuit top and it shattered :[ so we're still on the lookout!
Bikini Hunters,
Just to put your fears to rest--these materials are obtainable. It seems like everyone is sharing a great deal of information with each other. That’s great, keep it up!
Keep trying all the different ways to obtain these items!
~Good luck.
Not even a hint? smh
Please don't tell me it's from the new retainer gatherer ventures. 380+ gathering is ridiculous.
C'mon man, just a little hint? Please don't pull a Parade Gorget on us, people need their leopard print bikinis!
Yeah, you just give them away to people who ask nicely. Right? <_<
So, possibilities:
- Rarely obtained from all XIV ventures (unlikely)
- Rarely obtained from specific XIV ventures (do we know if XIV FSH ventures have been done extensively?)
- Rarely obtained from Unhidden Leather Maps (very unlikely)
- Rarely obtained from desynthing specific Big Fish
- Rarely obtained from desynthing CT1 gear (they ARE desynthable)
- Rarely obtained from desynthing the new Divine gear from the new dungeons (these are also desynthable)
- Rarely obtained from desynthing the new Sea Breeze swimsuits (X_X) (actually, I think this one is most likely)
- Rarely obtained from using the phrase "Rarely obtained" too many times in a forum post (testing this one out now)
Anyone else have ideas?
EDIT: I think the three best ideas are from desynthing CT1 gear, from desynthing Divine gear, and from desynthing the new Sea Breeze swimwear. I'd better pick a class to run CT1 as to get some gear to desynth...
From an ethical standpoint: This would imply that you know exactly how to obtain said items, and you all presumably play the game yourselves. Do you use that knowledge to your advantage when playing, or to you take a sort of hands off approach (meaning avoiding obtaining them) until the knowledge becomes more public?
i heard rumors of these dropping from unhidden treasure maps... but who knows.
Summer is going to be over by the time we're able to figure out how to obtain Waterproof Cotton.
The ventures themselves are new but the old top-tier venture was the same value.
It's actually not too hard since you only have to meld gathering onto their gear which means only certain slots need to be melded. You can also use random i55+ all classes accessories since they cap out at higher gathering values and retainers don't need GP.
To go along with my last post, I just did a tally of endgame equipment to see what high level equipment could be desynthed. I figure one of the i80+ (non-craftable) items that are desynthable are likeliest to yield waterproof cotton.
Desynthable:
- i80: Labyrinth of the Ancients gear (head, body, legs, arms, belt, feet)
- i80: Divine gear from the new dungeons (all armor slots, including accessories)
- i80: Ultima (rings and neck)
- i1: Sea Breeze swimwear
NOT Desynthable:
- i110: High Allagan gear
- i110: Unweathered Soldiery gear
- i100: Weathered Soldiery gear
- i100: Syrcus Tower gear
- i100: PvP "Animal" gear
- i100: Hellwolf PvP accessories
- i100: Judgement rings
- i100: Ribbons (from Moggle Mog Ex)
- i90: Allagan gear
- i90: AF2 (Myth) gear
- i90: Direwolf PvP gear
- i90: Primal accessories (Tremor, Inferno, Vortex)
- i70: New GC gear from trading in Allied Seals
As to which classes are best for desynthing these items:
- ARM: 19 (9 Divine, 10 LotA)
- LTW: 24 (16 Divine, 8 LotA)
- WVR: 28 (9 Divine, 16 LotA, 3 Sea Breeze)
- GSM: 40 (26 Divine, 2 LotA, 12 Ultima, 1 Sea Breze)
I think the GSM accessories won't give anything interesting. Here's the breakdown of the drops for the rest, which I'll use to determine what desynth class to focus on based on my mains:
- PLD/WAR Needable: ARM 9 (5 Divine, 4 LotA), 1 LTW (1 Divine), WVR 1 (1 LotA), GSM 1 (1 LotA)
- DRG Needable: ARM 8 (4 Divine, 4 LotA), LTW 3 (2 Divine, 1 LotA), WVR 1 (1 LotA)
- MNK Needable: LTW 5 (4 Divine, 1 LotA), WVR 7 (2 Divine, 5 LotA)
- BRD Needable: ARM 2 (2 LotA), LTW 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA), WVR 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA)
- BLK/SMN Needable: LTW 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA), WVR 6 (2 Divine, 4 LotA), GSM 1 (1 Divine)
- SCH/WHM Needable: LTW 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA), WVR 5 (2 Divine, 3 LotA), GSM 2 (1 Divine, 1 LotA)
So, this means that if it turns out to be obtained by desynthing LotA gear, then the "best" way to gather it is to run it as MNK and choose WVR as your desynth class. 5/6 items you get there as a MNK are desynthable with WVR.
If you like tanking the most and want quick(ish) queue times, obviously go ARM regardless of which set of items turns out to work (if either turn out to be either!)
BRD is evenly split between the three in LotA, and between LTW and WVR with the Divine items, so this is no help if you're of the spoony variety.
If you're a caster or healer, WVR is the best if it turns out to be LotA gear that works, and LTW if it turns out that it's actually Divine gear.
If you think it's rather likely you get it from the Sea Breeze set, go with WVR.
Hmm. Please let us know what you get if you try desynthing any of these! I haven't leveled any of those three desynth classes yet, sadly :(
Kudos to giving no hints or anything, Grekumah! It's nice to see this generation of MMO players squirm when they don't have a strategy guide right at their fingertips XD
I keep pressing the win button...
